There once was a man from Dorset…

There once was a man from Dorset…

Hello there!
Thanks for stopping by.
Saturday’s Blog a New Technique.
To who? To you? To me?
So just a quickie, an old favourite,
a demo using the corset and Angelina Fibres.
So many of you have seen this technique.
But there will be loads of readers who have never even heard of Angelina Fibres, or Fusible Fibres, let alone know what to do with them!
Ingredients:
Iron
Baking Parchment
3mm double-sided adhesive tape
Here’s how:
Ink up the stamp in Black Archival,
set it face up on the riser,

Place a little bundle of Angelina Fibres directly onto the
inky stamp.

Place a piece of baking parchment over the fibres,
and then iron with a flat NON steam iron.

When you can see the image through the baking parchment,
you will know it is ready.
Peel it off the stamp, and the black line art will be permanently embedded in the fibre.
Do the same again, once more in blue, then in pink.

Now cut the layers out, like this.
The first blue layer needs to keep its fibres at the bottom.
You can tease them and comb them, and then trim them.
(Jo Rice! Behave!!)
I drew this one with layering in mind,
so it works really logically.

The feminine leg stamp is brilliant.
It makes a great stand for the corset.

If you look here, you will see that I have literally sewn the pieces together, with black twine.
Best to make the holes with a pokey tool first…
(the mind boggles…)

All tied together with a little bow
and attached to the card with the double-sided tape.
That’s ain’t going anywhere!

What a delightful card for a princess.
I can think of one in particular….
my Grace.

So if you buy the Corset stamp,
we will send you the Feminine Leg stamp as a gift.

And let’s play limericks!

There once was a man from Dorset
Who liked to wear his wife’s corset..

now you finish it!
We’ll pick a winner and send a pressie!

much love,

  1. I have seen you use the fibres once before on TV but couldn't remember what you did, so this tutorial is great. Thank you! The finished card is lovely. Will have a think about the limerick and post back later if I can. It's too early for me to be thinking yet! x

  2. Love the fibres technique and this one is particularly great with the layers and choice of colours – limerick – like Sarah will need to come back to you – but definitely will!

  3. Well Barb I'll have a go of it.
There one was a man from Dorset. Who liked to wear his wife's corset.
    He tried it on twice.
    Thought it was nice.
And now he wanted some more of it.
How's that Barb. Hope you like it. Xxxxxxxxxxxxx

  4. Morning Barb – here's my effort:-
There once was a man from Dorset
Who like to wear his wife's corset
    It tried it at night
    It was really quite tight
And he ripped it by trying to force it

    have a great day xx

  5. There once was a man from Dorset
Who liked to wear his wife's corset
    He'd dress up and play
    While she was away
'Cos they're funny like that in Dorset!

  6. such a pretty card, definitely suitable for a grown up daughter or a sister 🙂
As for a limerick, its a bit early……and I'm about to leave for Ally Pally, so distracted with shopping lists but how about this……

There once was a man from Dorset
Who liked to wear his wife's corset
    It held him in tight
    From morning to night
So a large piece of cake wasn't forfeit!

  7. Gill created the following.
There once was a man from Dorset.
Who liked to wear his wife's corset.
    She didn't care.
    Coz they liked to share.
And she liked to play with his toolset.

  8. Fab card Barbara-as usual you have made it extra special with your finishing touches.
I love limericks -they do make me laugh-here's my effort –
There once was a man from Dorset
Who liked to wear his wife's corset
But it gave him a tickle
And he got in a pickle
When he went to the loo -so he tossed it!!!
    XxxRuth

  9. One to make Dave's eyes water a bit….

There once was a man from Dorset
Who liked to wear his wife's corset
    He looked better than her
    Except for his fir
So he shaved but, ouch, he caught it!

  10. I love these stamps – I think they were the first ones I ever got from you, and I took them on a crafting weekend with some friends who have all been Barbara addicts ever since I did the demo with the iron and fibres! So, to your limerick challenge…

There once was a man from Dorset
Who liked to wear his wife's corset
    It pinched in his waist
    But gave at the stays
    Now he's a man who's divorce'd!!

What fun – hope you have a great day at the show. Susan x

  11. its a lovely card Barbara have used them Angelina Fibres in Janets workshop love all the limericks not sure if i can do it will have to have a think xxx

  12. Hi Barb,
Remember you doing this quite a while ago now and even had a go myself, but mine didn't come out as nice as yours – in fact it was dreadful if I'm truthful! Might just have another go. Have a good day at Ally Pally and mind the neck! As for the limerick , unfortunately my brain is dead at the moment but if I manage to think of one I'll post it later. Love Alison xx

  13. wonderful technique – here goes with the limerick –
There once was a man from Dorset
Who liked to wear his wifes' corset
    He got a sore tum
    And a sticky out bum
From trying too hard just to force it!!

Ta da – well I didn't say it was good! Lol!
    Hugs
    Rachel xx

  14. Have had a few goes with the fibres now and love using them. Its a bit early for limericks but here goes
There once was a man from Dorset
who liked to wear is wife's corset
it was better than a vest
but it pushed up his chest
so a 44DD was needed to to finish the set

  15. Oh such fab limericks already but here goes with my attempt –
There once was a man from Dorset
Who liked to wear his wife's corset
    She would tightened his stays.
    Till he fainted away.
So she could spend the day at Ally Pally !

  16. I love this technique and have varying results all to do with the parchment I think.

    Ok so…

There once was a man from Dorset
Who liked to wear his wife's corset
His secret wasn't safe, when he lied to her face
and she took up the cause
    with a horsewhip!

    Have fun at the Pally

    Mx

  17. There once was a woman from Dorset
Who's husband liked to wear her corsets
At Ally Pally one day she discovered Ms. Gray and the Clarity Way.
When she got home her husband did pay
Because now there are better things to spend money on than corsets !

  18. Love the fibres & when I've seen you do this on TV it turns out beautifully. Mine looked like a moulting hamster! Enjoy Ally Pally, hope your neck doesn't give you too much grief. My contribution to the limericks:

There once was a man from Dorset
Who liked to wear his wife's corset
    But the fibres they tickled
    So unless he was pickled
This turn on he just had to forfeit!

    Pat x

  19. There once was a man from Dorset
Who liked to wear his wife's corset
But as hard as he tried
    It could not be tied
No matter how hard he would force it.

  20. All I can think about Dorset at the moment is all the fog I had down there last weekend. However, I shall not read any of the other entries until I have thought of something for myself. I love playing with the angelina. It is almost as magical as heat embossing, and even more effective. Hope the show is going well today, and Dave does not have to go back to base for more wheelie stencils. Love to all the wonderful Clarity team. xxx Maggie

  21. There once was a man from Dorset
Who liked to wear his wife’s corset
    The lace caused a rash
    Which caused him to scratch
And he ended up with a sore set!

oops! Thanks for the reminder about Angelina fibres. Jean.x

  22. There once was a man from Dorset
Who liked to wear his wife's corset
    His son came from school
    Said dad your a fool
You really don't suit those silk stockings

  23. Have a great time at the Ally Pally can't make it this year as I am going to watch my son run the London Marathon.
There once was a man from Dorset
Who liked to wear his wife's corset
    He wore it one night
    But pulled it to tight
And that was the end of the man from Dorset
Have had a chuckle reading everyone's comments x

  24. Funnily enough I was in Dorset walking at Lambert's Castle only yesterday!
There once was a man from Dorset,
Who liked to wear his wife's corset.
    He pulled it too tight
    And got such a fright
When he slipped through a crack on the doorstep.

  25. There once was a man from Dorset
Who liked to wear his wife's corset
    But an excess of cake
    Caused the laces to break
And now he finds he has to force it!!

Haha, I love limericks. I also love this technique, so I am off to order the corset stamp and a riser. Already have the Angelina fibres. Thanks so much for the brilliant offer. X

  26. There once was a man from Dorset
Who liked to wear his wife's corset
    He got in a fix
    Undoing the threads
So had to find a new vice to replace it!

I posted this once and it didn't show so had to try to remember it again! Not easy when you didn't get to bed until 3 a.m. after a hard night partying! I'm too old for all this!

  27. There once was a man from Dorset
Who liked to wear his wife's corset
    He said, with a cough,
    "I can't get it off!
You're just gonna have to help force it!"

Best I can do… Loved reading the others! x

  28. Great stuff Barbara 🙂

There one was a man from Dorset
Who liked to wear his wife's corset
He was quite the old vamp
    with his Clarity stamps,
His inks, brush and brayer – the full set!

  29. Loving this one
There once was a man from Dorset
who liked to wear his wife's corset
    with such feminine legs
    which he stamped with effect
just made Barb gasp, Wow! Who'd a thought it

    thanks for the giggles
    Toni x

  30. Well I love the card, you must have known I was going to have a go with fibres in awhile. Need to make a card for my sister-in-law 70th birthday. Not sure I am going to get it right but nothing ventured as they say. Love the limerick challenge and other replies are brilliant. I will go and have a think while I do ironing and come back hopefully. Lynne xx

  31. There once was a man from Dorset
Who liked to wear his wife's corset
His wife had BIG "garden birds,"
He only filled that bit two-thirds,
But round his belly – boy did he have to force it!

Love the card – such a great technique and I will eventually get round to getting some fibre and a travel iron when my brother gets his act together and builds my craft room at the bottom of the garden!

Great poetic efforts from everyone else too – very funny. Have a great evening everyone x

  32. Hi Barb, as promised from this morning here is my limerick….tried posting this whilst at Ally Pally when I was sat opposite you watching you demo but my phone would not play ball!
There was a young man from Dorset
Who liked to wear his wife's corsets
    The soft satin touch
    Felt nice on his crotch
    So into the Corset
    He forced it!!!

Hope that is not too risky!!!

So great to catch up with you today Barb, your team doing a wonderful job – Dave on the tills was telling about future YouTube being bigger and better, and I even glimpsed Mr Church duly lending a hand – so a big well done to you all – I had a great day out – spent far too much – but who cares!!! xxxx

  33. Evening Barbara,
Love this stamp it always looks great.

There once was a man from Dorset
Who liked to wear his wife's corset
    And try as he may
    His wife wouldn't play
    Unless he invited the milkman!!

  34. There once was a man from Dorset
who liked to wear his wife's corset
    his secret obsession
should have taught him a lesson
now there's no more corset in Dorset! The card is lovely. Hope you have had an enjoyable day at ally pally. Joan x

  35. Gorgeous again Barb. I must try these fibres.

    My try"…………..

There was a man from Dorset
Who liked to wear his wife's corset
    He looked so funny
When he pulled in his tummy
And the laces all snapped when he forced it!

  36. Hi Barbara, Great card I had forgotten about the corset stamp, will have to get it out again.

Here's my ending for the limerick
There was a man from Dorset
Who liked to wear his wives corset
    He tried the bra
    It stretched too far
Alas it snapped when he forced it!!

Great to have some Clarity hilarity. Jane x

  37. Right had little think while I did ironing, helped it go smoothly !!!! Have also done my fibres, not too bad for first attempt certainly usable. Anyway about that man.
There once was a man from Dorset,
Who liked to wear his wife's corset,
But it made him so hot,
He took it off like a shot,
And then stood under the faucet.
Best I can do, not my strong point really, but I bet you going to have a good laugh reading all these. Lynne xx

  38. Love these stamps & enjoy using them with the fibres but will have to try the layering technique.

    Here's my limerick:
There was a man from Dorset
Who liked to wear his wife's corset,
    Some make-up, a dress
    His wife said, I confess
You look quite a queen but don't force it

With thanks to my husband for his help!

  39. Love the use of Angelina fibres. I do not feel brave enough yet to try tis technique but feel that I already have many of your techniques to get to grips with that this should be something for the future.

There was a man from Dorset
Who liked to wear his wife's corset,
    But it made him choke,
    So the laces broke
He never again wore his wife's corset.

Hope you had a good day at Ally Pally!

  40. There once was a man from Dorset
Who like to wear his wife's corset
    what with his hairy chest
Not to mention the grey string vest
    His congregation looked on incredulous
As with three hail Mary's they were blessed!

Hope you're having a great weekend at the Ally Pally,
    Ela x

  41. OK third attempt, my phone isn't playing tonight, back on computer!! This is a gorgeous card Barbara. I like the poetry challenge. So ….
There was a young Man from Dorset
Who liked to wear his Wife's Corset
    So she Crafted away
    While he had a play
Boy was she happy she'd bought it. xx

  42. There was a young man from Dorset
Who liked to wear his wife's corset
    But when she got home
    And he was found out
All he could do was forfeit.

I loved the card it was fab and I had only just found out what fusible fibres were the other day, they look so much fun.

I hope Ally Pally went well and your neck held out
    Dx

  43. There was a young man from Dorset
Who liked to wear his wife's corset
    She came home one day
    and found him at play
Now his b…s are the sorest.

Oh dear hope I'm not too rude! X

  44. There was a young man from Dorset,
Who liked to wear his wife's corset,
    It made him feel good,
    Much more than it should,
She left him and we know what caused it!
That's my effort and I love the card! xx

  45. Great artwork, at first I thought you'd coloured the AF with promarkers but no , great idea looks, fab, must get the corset stamp, think I'll treat myself for my birthday (today – yay), best get to bed 😉 x

  46. Thought I'd have a limerick play this morning and this is what I came up with.

There once was a man from Dorset
Who liked to wear his wife's corset
He went down to the beach
Where he heard a shrill screech
And the Lifeguard ran up with a blanket!

  47. This one came to me in the shower this morning. The last rhyme is abit tenacious but corset is really hard to rhyme with! Have a great day. Ela x

There once was a young man from Dorset
Who liked wearing his wife's new corset
    He appeared at door
Wearing her bra, pants and all
To see his wife filling out a law suit.

  48. Hi Barbara. Love the card. Haven't used Angelina Fibres yet but have seen you using them before. I love how well it works as the skirt. Will try and come up with an end to your limerick. I love Crafty Magpies, think that she is really clever to use Ally pally and your names : ) Take care.

  49. The Angelina Fibres work so well with this stamp, and I love the way you can comb them out into a fringe at the bottom. It looks great with the two colours too. Well here goes with my version:

There once was a man from Dorset,
Who liked to wear his wife's corset,
As he looked such a sight,
    He got into a fight,
So perforce he must go get his jaw set.

I hope Ally Pally has been a big success. x

  50. Great and amazing technique as well as a gorgeous card!

There once was a man from Dorset,
Who Like to wear his wife's corset,
He pulled the strings and started to sing,
When the Corset began to ping he started
    a highland fling.
The strings broke and then he snapped what one ought not to……

His wife came home to Dorset to find her corset in the closet,
her husband in the corset on the floor of the closet
Singing I am the man from Dorset who had a canary up the leg of my drawers, I pulled the Corset strings and made it sing and down came my …….. Oh What a night,it was late September !

Ha ha poor man from Dorset!

    Big Hugs
    xxx
