24 hours on the road

24 hours on the road

Howdi!
Well that was a trip and a half!
Just got to our final destination and it’s 3.30 in the morning in the UK, but about 8.30 pm here.

Must be mad.
We nearly missed the connecting flight in Dallas Fort Worth.
They were literally closing the doors when we got to the gate.
That was entirely down to the shambolic US Entry system in place when we got off the plane from London.

We actually had ample time between flights, but there were 4 passport inspectors and about 400 people to inspect, so go figure.
And they really didn’t seem to give a monkeys whether we made our connection or not.
You can’t help the thoughts which come into your head can you….
I just mostly know when not to voice them, and when confronted by a haughty Texan with a gun, I definitely knew better than to have a go. So we just kept our mouths shut tight, and let him tell us all about how America is the greatest and safest country in the world.  It wasn’t until we were strapped in the seats on the flight bound for Albuquerque that we let off steam. Properly. We also figured out that if a friendly English chap hadn’t let us go in front of him in the mental queue in Dallas, we could have waved our flight goodbye.

It really is a long haul to NewMexico, but now we’re here we know why we make this trip so often. It really is the Land of Enchantment.

But now I am off to the Land of Winkin Blinkin and Nod.

Excited to be here. We’ve got some great mini trips lined up ….

Love & Hugs,
Barb

  1. So where in New Mexico are you? On your way back you'll have to make a stop in Detroit and I'll even pick you up at the airport. LOL Hope you have a good time. My brother lives in Lubbock, TX, so if I come down I will come by way of TX, too. Have a great night.

  2. Glad you made it know you can relax unwind hopefully you will sleep well. Looking forward to hearing all about you adventures don't worry about blogging every day you can tell us all when you get back of your trip you need to relax lots love hugs xxx

  3. Glad to hear that you have landed safely. A very long day for sure. You need to make a trip to Canada some time. It is really a beautiful place. When I was surfing the net today, I was very distressed when I came upon a video showing parchment craft from Parchment Craft Australia. They were featuring a product that looked exactly like Groovi. Was wondering if this could be a patent infringement. After all your hard work with Groovi wouldn't want someone to play off your success. Have a great and well deserved vacation.

    1. I think they have Clarity's Groovi in Australia now Cathie; It has reached right around the world since the launch. I know they are loving the products in the US and Canada, and knowing that the Clarity team has been to some of the international trade fairs, I wouldn't be surprised if it has got to Australia too.

    2. Is PCA still active in the UK? I have many of their tools and love them. I know they had grids many years ago (I have some, as they were, back then, better than Pergamano. No doubt Pergaman have caught up! ) but didn't realise they also had groovi-style products? Would be interesting to know – I'll watch with interest.

    3. I've got a lot of PCA tools and grids too and you can get them from a variety of websites, that said I've begun collecting Pergamano tools and already have a substantial collection, the 'new' styling is much more comfy than their original blue tools. Both sets complement each other and there are lots of designs for both ranges so I'm a 'happy bunny'. Have seen the PCA plates on the web but not bought any as I love the Groovi artwork – you can find demos of PCA plates on 'You Tube' if you want to see them. HTH!

  4. Went to Albuquerque about a decade ago, it was October, and they host the bigggest balloon festival in the world, quite magical to get up early for a dawn lift, and again in the evening with the glow of the burners against fading light, with wave after wave of them coming over the horizon.
The taxi driver also thought our English accents were "cute" and had no conception that there are different accents within the British Isles, so treated him to my best Brummie, Glasgow and Essex attempts….very funny!

  5. Hello Barbara

Glad you have arrived safely. Thought of you last evening as I was watching a programme on BBC2. Michael Portillo was making train journeys in America and he was in New Mexico. It was very interesting as he told us about the history of the area.

    Love

  6. We had the same problem with nearly missing our connecting flight to Florida last year in August with two children waiting forever to get through all the biometric system. Made it because the connecting flight was delayed. Thank goodness. It took forever so I feel your pain! Great you are there though. Have a fab time x

  7. Hi Barbara
I wondered if you were heading to New Mexico, are the kids going to join you? Good to hear you arrived safe and sound and it was a lovely man from the uk doing a RAK that made it all possible. Have a good sleep then dust of that line of boots and go see the countryside. Is this where the lady is with the bottle house? Wonder how far she's got with it now! Take care
    Love Diane xxx

    1. Hello bloggy friends hope all is well. Sun is struggling to wake up this morning and it's a bit chilly but hopefully it's going to be a lovely day. Sending hugs xxx

    2. Morning Diane,
Think the sun is in hiding up here! Cold, windy and trying to rain. I think it's reflecting the mood of Dave – he's decorating which always puts him in a bad mood. I didn't help the situation mind you when I said I needed the kitchen to be tidy by Saturday at the latest as I've got my sister and brother in law for lunch on Sunday! Maybes that was a bad decision!! Have a good day, love and hugs Alison xxx

    3. Hi Diane And Alison – chilly here today. Just waiting in the car for doors to be oked for Neills group physio assessment appointment. Ah door is opening – time to go will check in again here later on! Love and hugs Gilly xxx

  8. Glad you got there, although it sounds a bit stressful. I think this is what puts me off gong to the US, I've heard so many people say similar. It was good someone let you in front of them. Have a great time. Xx

  9. Hi Barb,
Well I'm pleased you've arrived safe and sound at last after a stressful journey. Hopefully you'll have a good night's sleep and be chilled out in the morning. Love and hugs Alison xxx

    1. Hi bloggy friends,
Hope you're all as good as possible this morning. Just about to go out with a friend for coffee to get out of the house while Dave is decorating ( see comment above on Diane's post!) love and hugs to you all, Alison xxxx

  10. So happy you managed to get your connecting flight. Doesn't bode well for me then when I go in May! Have a fabulous time and hope you managed to get some sleep.
    Hugs

  11. Glad you got there safe and sound. Watched Michael Portillow on his journies last night on tv and he was in New Mexico and Albuquerque. Stunning part of the world.

  12. Hope you have lots of relaxation time in the sunshine now that you're there safely. We really enjoyed our trip to Santa Fe, and I came home with some new stamps from the little craft store too! If you get a chance to go to the slot canyons in Utah they are so worth a visit (Antelope Canyon) – amazing xxx
