Day 14 – August Arty Challenge – I Will Get Out Of My Head And Get With My Hands

Day 14 – I Will Get Creative With My Hands

I must say this nearly every single time I’m on TV: getting creative with my hands is how I switch off my head. And for me, that really is the crux of everything. I have never been very good at doing nothing. My brain simply doesn’t stop. It thinks, plans, worries, works things out, jumps ahead, goes backwards — you know the drill! But give my hands something creative to do, and something changes. Whether I’m stamping, painting, doodling, cutting up paper, making a piece of pottery or just playing with colour, my head quietens down because my hands have taken over. That, right there, is why I am a maker. It isn’t just about what I end up with; it’s about what happens to me while I’m making it. And I reckon that’s worth remembering today. xxx

  1. Another brilliant inky challenge. Thank you.
I totally agree with the sentiment that focusing on what your hands are achieving stops those racing thoughts for a while.
The only problem for me now is the arthritis that has developed in my little fingers making everything I do with my hands a painful experience but I persevere and fortunately have quite a high pain threshold. I have planned to do a taster pottery session at a local venue my husband stumbled upon so we will see: hopefully not setting myself up for another disappointment.
On another post you wrote about a podcast concerning the Gray Scalers. Will you be giving us a link so we can listen in? l do hope so. x
