It’s the simple things….

It’s the simple things….

Hi there.

The sun is shining, the birds are singing in the garden, and here’s where I’m at today.

Just had a simple breakfast with Dave. Local jam and bread from the local farm shop, washed down with freshly ground coffee.

Then I cleaned off the garden furniture, washed down the glass table, which was covered in yew tree dust, got out the seat covers to give them an airing, and will enjoy the sunshine in the garden this afternoon, once I’ve done a little housework. I may even make a few more little clay birds under the garden umbrella – provided the clay doesn’t dry out too fast in the heat. If Dave is around, we will keep each other company. If he is doing something else, I will carry on listening to my rather excellent audible book while I work on the clay.

And that to me sounds like a perfect day.

Look for beauty in everyday things. Surround yourself with objects that give you joy, that lift your spirit when you look at them. Make something with your hands.

Love always

  1. Sounds great. Son been here this morning to finish off our decking, it’s coming along nicely. Every so often I put something in the skip which is quite satisfying, still got some sorting to do. Will be sitting out this afternoon, reading or listening, might even do some Groovi …. Make most of sun while it’s here. Enjoy your day, both of you x x

  2. Hi Barbara and Dave, what a simple and most perfect day it sounds. I often think it’s the simple things that mean the most to us. Enjoy every moment, cos they are so precious and don’t come along often. Penny xXx

  3. I love the birds Barb, especially the owl (my surname causes me to favour them). 55th Wedding Anniversary this weekend, so lots of reminiscing. Just been looking at 2010 videos of swimming in Portugal. Those were the days.
Enjoy your restful Sunday. Must get the washing in, it’s clouding over in Gloucestershire. The garden needs the rain even if I don’t. 🥰

  4. It is another lovely day here, but unfortunately with that comes the tree pollen that my eyes & nose just don’t like so I won’t be sitting outside.
I love your little birds especially the owl which seems to be popular with others on here as well, I look forward to seeing them in the flesh at the Open Days which are just 7 weeks away not that I am counting 😂😂

    1. Tree pollen, eh? That sucks. You would struggle in our garden with the yew tree pollen! I think I’m allergic to clay dust! Oh no!! xxx

  5. Sounds like you are having the perfect day. Been a bit hectic here, my plans went awry but now settling down to a relaxing rest of the day.
Like everyone else I love your owl, he looks very appealing. Any chance I could buy one as a brush pot? He would keep
my pencil pot company on my desk. I know you are busy at the moment so if it is possible I would be happy to wait for as long as it takes.
For some reason I find these birds, especially the barn owls, absolutely gorgeous and have quite a collection.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

    1. Hi Cherry. Hope your afternoon was peaceful. And yes to the order for an owl. I will gratefully accept that commission! xxx

  6. That sounds just perfect, Barbara. It is so good to get rid of that icy wind even if it is just for a little while.
I hope Dave is continuing to make progress. I am sure the fine weather helps.
    I love the little birds.

  7. The older I get, the more I realise that the simple things are the most important things in my life. Today John and I walked a coastal path in the sunshine watching and listening to the birds to celebrate his birthday – perfect x

    1. Sound lovely, Susan. We look forward to be able to take those walks again soon, too xxx Happy Birthday to your John !

  8. Hope today was exactly what you wished for! I’ve had a lovely lunch in the sunshine with my sister & nieces, followed by an afternoon crafting with my sister – making things with our hands! xx

    1. And 3 have got your name on them! I have been trying to figure out the robin’s red breast! Better late than never x x x

  9. Love the birds Barbara, Dave and I have been on the allotment today with our younge helpers, Dave is 83 this year and I am 77 so we are finding it hard going on 5 allotments, but love the fruit and veggies and the village kids like the pocket money and are learning lots of gardening tricks.
They are painting the picnic area benches on the allotment at the moment, my flower bed up there is looking lovely, tulips, wallflowers and pansies and the roses and fuchias will be next. I am going down to my Craft Shed today to sort out, My grandaughter Olivia has moved her STUFF out to her new shed so no excuses no. Love from Janet, looking forward to your 1 2 3 xxx

  10. Sounds like just the sort of day the doctor ordered. It’s been so nice not to have that icy wind blowing. It makes me laugh when the moment the sun comes out so do the shorts & t-shirts despite that cold wind blowing or maybe it’s just me still in jumpers & a coat. Here’s too another relaxing day for you both xxxx

  11. Hi Barb, hope you had a lovely day and made more of those delightful birds. Yesterday was a beautiful spring day, but looks like the weather is turning today. Bx

  12. I am loving these little birds – looking forward to seeing them finished at the open day!

    Take things easy and enjoy!
