Big Eaters and Fajitas!
Hi there.
After a day of business meetings and coffee in London, we caught the last train home to Tunbridge Wells before the commuter craziness commenced – and it do get busy! Standing room only after 5pm.
And what did we do when we got off the train? Yep we moseyed on down to the local Smith & Western, for a shot of Shania Twain, a dose of Dolly Parton – a dirty burger for Dave, and Fajitas for little ol’ me!! ! We do love Tex-Mex! And this evening, it was cooked to perfection.
Right. Put on your best Southern Belle accent, I dare ya, and repeat after me –
Now I may not drink, but I sure as hell know how to eat.
Chicken fajitas with all the trimmings, washed down with a pint of ice cold diet coke. What a treat! We don’t do it often, but sometimes (Southern Belle voice again) you do just gotta have a dang blowout!

It was the absolute best way to decompress. You know. That Sod it moment? Sod the diet. Sod the calories. Sod the stress of everything. Yep.
It’s time to spend some time in New Mexico again. We haven’t made it over there this year. Too busy pedalling. But it really is mostly a beautiful, wild, unspoiled place. It’s called “The Land of Enchantment” with good reason. I’ve always dreamt we’d live there one day; lots of time yet…and in the meantime, we eat fajitas at the local Smith & Western sporadically – and pretend. Last time we were there, we’d had the rattle snake adventure! Remember that one? Sheesh. Not for the faint-hearted!
Food for comfort today? Not much!! I’ve just looked up the top 10 best (or worst!) comfort foods…
What Are the Top 10 Comfort Foods?
- Burgers & French fries.
- Cake and cheesecake.
- Candy.
- Chicken soup.
- Grilled cheese.
- Grits.
- Ice cream.
- Mac ‘n’ cheese.
Well, Dave certainly hit the top spot! And I rounded off the affair with a huge ice-cream sundae! Hahaha. Mind you, I did ask for two spoons, and I did let Dave share!
Mmm…. As I look down the list, I have to chuckle. We both had a grilled cheese sandwich at Pret a Manger-Marble Arch before the business meeting today too! The body knows what it needs, the body knows….
And now my body’s telling me to put on my PJ’s and veg out.
Love always

my comfort food is home made cottage pie and vegetables…..yummy! Sometimes you just have to treat yourself to whatever hits the spot x
oh blimey, what a mixed menu. well, having attacked the garden before winter I had a frozen Toad in the Hole (Aunt Bessies) with baked beans. absolutely absolutely. Delish. Feet up now to chill.xxxx
Love a toad in the hole ! Mum used to make us that and so do I but Aunt Bessie’s is good. I add a bit of cheese to my batter ….. and I like it with baked beans, that comes from childhood ! X
Yum yum piggy’s ….
We had an up early hospital appointment which was a bit of a worry one and turned out fine, trouble is each one is a bit of worry now but not this time and we will deal with it when/if we have too.
So we were going to go out to lunch to celebrate but ended up with unexpected visitors which was fine. However, left it too late to want to go out again so I popped down to McDs and was back in doors in 15 mins with two quarter pounders with cheese, 3 chicken selects and some medium chips – remind me I now only need small chips ! Dave’s a man after my own heart – I’m a burger girl and would have had one today at Miller & Carter but that will be another day now.
Chocolate is probably my comfort food or a lovely buttered slice of pecan and cranberry bread from M&S – a rare treat !
Hope your meeting went well and you deserve a bit of comfort food I reckon ! I like a fajita but usually get in a mess!
Enjoy your evening – at least we didn’t have to cook tea ! X
All food is comfort food and the mood dictates what it is on the day. Since I love to cook up a storm there is no knowing what I will come up with but it has to be followed by a super, genuine Italian ice cream.
Sounds like your day ended well. Sleep well.
Egg mayo sandwiches with side salad and some plain kettle crisps. Didn’t fancy anything got today. I am also in my Pj’s just going to watch the great British bake off then off to bed.x
Crisps, cheese and chocolate but not all together !!!
Glad you both had a nice meal after your meeting in London. No washing up – great.
Take care.
Good to see you enjoying yourselves, you have to grab those special times!
I love proper cheese on toast with lots of vinegar. Really tasty. I tend to go for savoury things rather than sweet stuff. Hope this posts but I am not holding my breath. xxx Maggie Craner
It looks like my computer is playing nicely tonight. Yippee. xxx Maggie Craner
Sometimes you’ve just got to do watcha gota do & a little bit of what you fancy can do you the power of good every now & then. Glad you and Dave a good end to your day xxxx
I’ve just spent Day 3 in bed with the most horrendous cough but it seems to be abating tonight thank goodness. Good thing is it hasn’t affected me eating and hubby is being a 1st class nurse. Chilli tonight. I like Shepherds pie or fish pie for comfort food.
mmm – what’s not to like! I do sometimes get a craving for a portion of delicious crispy chips – it never hurts to do what’s good for your soul once in a while.
Hope it was a productive day xx
Chinese EVERY TIME, the works—-Curry—-Special fried rice—Pancake Roll—Stewed Mushrooms with peas—-Prawn Crackers—–and Crunchy Onions. then for breakfast the remains of the above, so it is really a too-for Ha Ha!!
Where is the 🍫? And an Aussie steak pie? Yummy
Hello Barb, wow that looks great, now I want to go out for Fajitas. Glad you and Dave had a nice meal out after a busy day. Love the list of comfort food, surprised Fish and Chips is not on there, one of my favourites, although a good mac and cheese hits the spot too. Take care everyone. Bx
Chocolate, roast chicken dinners, fish and a fav quick dinner, a sheet of puff pastry spread with tomato chutney, chopped onions, tomatoes, mushrooms, courgettes, peppers, goats cheese, mixed herbs, onion powder and garlic powder, mmm.
There is no way grits would ever appear on my list of comfort food!!!
Glad you made the most of your trip with a bit of fun and your favourite foods. Life is to be lived!! x
I had to laugh at your photo. If you followed my husband on Facebook you’d think we never did anything but eat! He posts pictures of me with plates of food wherever we go.
I’m not sure what my comfort food is but I expect it involves gravy, maybe a homemade cottage pie. Depends a bit on the mood. Xx
Looks delicious – never tried that, think I just might have to!
We were in London on Sunday at Wembley Stadium to watch an NFL game – what a wonderful experience, that stadium is huge and our seats were up in the gods but we still had a good view of what was happening!
As it was an NFL game, we just had to have hotdogs with everything on! Not the easiest thing to eat without getting it all down my front but I think I managed, mostly!
At the end, the queues to get out the car park were epic so we went to the nearby Pret and I had mac & cheese – delicious – one of my comfort foods! The others are definitely chocolate, cake and icecream!
After we had eaten we went to the car and voila, no queue, we drove straight out – a good plan I think!
