Today well lived…

Today well lived…

Hi there

Thanks for popping in. We have a verse which has been made into a stampset and a Groovi plate.

Today Well Lived is actually an ancient Sanskrit verse. Here’s the unabridged version, and I’d like to introduce it as today’s quote # 28

Look to this Day,
for it is life – the very life of life.
In its brief course lie all
the realities and truths of existence
the joy of growth
the glory of action
the splendour of beauty.
For yesterday is already a memory,
and tomorrow is only a vision
but today well lived makes every
yesterday a memory of happiness
and every tomorrow a vision of hope.
Look therefore to this day.

Kalidasa, Indian Sanksrit Playwright and Poet, Hindu Philosopher, 4 – 5th century A.D.

And there we were, thinking we’d invented mindulness.

We’ve eaten a good breakfast together, we’ve talked, cried and even played a game of cards called Monopoly, just to switch the direction of our thoughts. So funny. The two west coast kids have now gone jogging with a basketball under their arm, the two east coast kids are chillin’ and having a cuddle. This evening we’ve booked a table at Frankie and Benny‘s before we all go 10-pin bowling. That should be fun! We used to go a lot when the kids were young. Every Sunday morning in fact – they were in a bowling club and even had their own bowls! So we shall see just how much of that tuition has stuck…

It’s what we do, isn’t it. Get out of our heads and get with our hands. Whether we make a card, play a game of cards or go 10-pin bowling, it is all designed to distract, and stick together.

Love always

  1. Glad you are making the most of your time with the kids before they have to go back. We played a 3 generation game of Cards Against Humanity on my Mum’s birthday and it was surprising how rude some of the answers from the older generation were. We laughed until we cried though. Hugs. Thinking about you all – especially on Monday.

  2. Togetherness 💕. Distraction is great especially when it’s with your loved ones. Thinking of you all💕

  3. Hello Barbara
When we lost our father, suddenly, in 1980 we took comfort in trying to remain cheerful and getting on with life. our father would have been extremely cross with us if we had moped about for ever more. it was hard, very hard, at times but we have lived by that ever since. And kept him alive in our thoughts and by bringing him into conversations. Also by teaching future family members (my youngest was born on the first anniversary) about him. My thoughts are with you all and I am sending a big hug.xxx

    1. Wise words Roz, of course everyone deals with their grief in their own way, but six years on , as a family, we still include Dad in our decisions and thoughts. He looks down on us….“Those we lose don’t go away, they walk beside us every day”.

  4. Enjoy the time together making more memories. As they say, laughter IS the best medicine and so is being surrounded by those we love the most.
Have fun bowling, and take some pics for your memory books!
    Big hugs my lovely. Xxx

  5. Life is precious and if well lived will see us through most things. Love the quotation, lots of wisdom there.
Enjoy the bowling with your kids and Dave.
    Hugs 🍒

  8. Today well lived is a day to be grateful. A day with family and friends being thankful for their love and support giving strength for the days to come. In my thoughts Barbara and your loved ones.

  9. That’s such a lovely verse – I’ve never seen the whole thing. A good mantra to live life by, in good times and hard ones. Hope you’ve all had a great evening out together. xx

  10. I read the blog earlier but realised I hadn’t commented when I came back to see what others had said.
Hopefully by now you will have had a wonderful evening of fun & laughter having had your meal & playing bowls with the family. As long as there aren’t any pulled/aching muscles tomorrow !!
I organised a game with friends I used to work with a few months ago & couldn’t understand why my back was aching the next day until I thought of how I had been twisting & bending to throw the bowls down the alley !! I forgot I wasn’t in my twenties anymore but it was good fun at the time xx

  11. Hello Barb, love the verse, and it is very true. Hope you enjoyed the meal out and the game of bowls. Sending hugs. Take care and stay warm everyone. Bx

  12. You and all your family will be in my thoughts tomorrow. I shall light a candle for your dear dad.
    Much love. Annette XX
