Clear the head, not the ironing pile!

Clear the head, not the ironing pile!

Hi there

Thanks for popping in. My list of things-to-do got so long, so overwhelming, that I decided to go to Pottery all morning, then come home, have a nap and make a little step by step card project for this ere blog! Roast lunch? Nah. Plate of nachos. Nothing like hitting the Sod it Button on a Sunday!! In fact, I may even go down in the garage and throw a few bowls this evening – just to be able to say I actually stepped out of the Wurka Hollick treadmill for a whole day.

The Pottery Session was a bit dry. Handbuidling a butter dish requires a quite a bit of thinking and pre-measuring. The clay was also too wet to work, so this is all I achieved!

Thing is though, with pottery – and any art or craft for that matter – you have to have an idea of where you want to go, what you want to achieve. Lidded vessels are this term’s subject. A butter dish needs a lid with a fitted recess, and it has to be large enough to fit a half pound slab of butter! Not as easy as one might think! Ah well. If it takes all term, that’s fine by me too.

On to the little card…

Which Stamps did I use?

Small Round backdrop Stamp

Autumn Seasonal Wreath

  • Pick a selection of Distress Oxides,
  • dab them onto the small circle Backdrop stamp,
  • blend them with a Spot-On Sponge
  • spritz with a little water
  • plant on a piece of Clarity 7×7 inch Stencil card
  • rub the back of the acetate and peel off backdrop stamp.
  • Use the Autumn Seasonal semi-wreath to wrap around the coloured backdrop.
  • Bend into the right curve on the mount and stamp using black Archival.
  • Stamp both sides
  • Infill gaps with smaller leaves and berry stamps from the stampset.
  • Add the owls from the same set
  • Add the deer silhouette from that set. I also added a tiny deer from one of our Miniatures Stamp sets.
  • Colour in the leaves and branches of the wreath with a dark grey Polychromos pencil
  • Whiten the snow berries with a Fine white Posca pen.
  • Use a little moon mask to introduce a moon. Use a white pencil
  • Remove the moon mask and add a drop shadow with a grey pencil.
  • Add shade underneath the floating deer
  • Cut a doodle frame using our Square Doodle Die. I LOVE THESE DIES!!!!
  • Trim white card back
  • Assemble time. Mount on Indian Summer Paper, which happens to match perfectly,
  • …or keep it simple, on a 6×6 inch black cardblank.
  • Use a Clarity Tape runner to attach. Done

That’ll do.

Today was a day for clearing the head, not the laundry nor the ironing pile. Much more important.

Stay safe.

Love always

  1. Thanks for the interesting read Barbara! Too tired and out of sorts to even follow instructions, but I have made a card for a spritely 91 year old today, and I’ll be in the shac shack tomorrow. Please keep us posted on the butter dish. X

  2. Hi Barb
Really love the card and I’m sure you butter dish will
be beautiful..quite agree sometimes you just need a
    break.

  3. That’s quite a project ! As for a butter dish – can I put an order in ? Been looking for one for as my old, and I mean old, M&S one died last year and haven’t found a new one yet ! Glad you had a day off. Sit down and watch the pottery instead of doing it ! See you in the morning xx

  4. One has been a catch-up on housework day with short breaks in between! Went for a walk this afternoon before it really turned chilly and finally, before dinner sat down and made a card using the time for tea stamps on some of your paper! It certainly kept the mind busy andI have cut it up to make various cards! Super! It’s the first card I’ve made in a long long time! Here’s hoping I can make more now!

  5. Today I sandwiched a quilt ready to stitch it together. I’ve been putting it off since before the 1st lockdown. Groovi took over my life and my sewing has taken a back seat. As for the ironing – hubby offered and I took him up on it 🤣🤣🤣

  6. Hello Barbara
Thank you for the step by step, I love it and must have a play with my wreaths now they have arrived.
Not tomorrow! No housework tomorrow either. Because my youngest is getting married! Yay!
No housework done today as it was our East Northants Groovi Group January weekend meeting.
    Love

  7. Hi Barbara the card is gorgeous. I love it. Those stamps are just amazing. I can’t wait to see your finished butter dish. Enjoy the rest of your Sunday. Take care. Hugs xxx

  8. Pleased you put Worka and Hollick on the back burner today and took some time for yourself. Love the card. Looking forward to these stamps arriving through my door .
My head won’t stop spinning – I’ve been asked to make a card for the birthday of a lorry driver whose intterest is history. My mind is a complete blank at the moment. Perhaps something will come to me tomorrow while I do my ironing !!!!!
Have a good evening. Stay safe.

  9. Totally agree crafting of any kind is far better than doing housework !!
Thanks for another great step by step using the backdrop stamps & the new frames alongside the doodle frames. Another for the to do list.
I am sure the butter dish will work out but presume you have to allow for shrinkage of the clay which must be quite tricky !!
See you in the SHAC shack tomorrow

  10. Hi Barb, a beautiful card, love the colours used. I was definitely not in a to do list frame of mind yesterday and to be quite honest, not sure what I actually did. Hey ho, it will all still be there today or tomorrow. I look forward to seeing the butter dish. Take care and stay safe everyone. Bx

  11. So glad you parked the ‘to do list’ and had a day of what you wanted to do not what you should be doing – it’s good for the soul. Love the step by step and look forward to seeing the butter dish. See you in the Shac xx
