Birds of a Feather?

Birds of a Feather?

Hi there.

Thanks for popping in. For three days now we have been doodling a dream catcher in the SHAC-Shack. Today we were working on the dangly feathers. I can only speak for myself, but I have found the last 3 days in the SHAC-Shack an absolute pleasure.

Perhaps it’s because we are on tour in New Mexico, the Land of Enchantment; perhaps the spiritual energy from that lovely place has worked its magic in our souls. Wouldn’t that be lovely? What a wonderful thought.

We added a funky feather to the option palette today, too. Here’s a doodle step-by-step if you fancy having a go…

See you tomorrow at 10. I’d best go figure out where we’re going !

Stay safe.

Love and Hugs

  1. Quite pleased with my dream catcher, feathers could perhaps be better but hey six weeks ago I would not have even tried. I will give this one a try but i opted for the dots on mine. Now we are about to do quiz night with the family. Already had a video call with our little grandson. x

  2. Hi Barb, maybe because you have such fond/happy memories and feelings about that place? I’m glad something took you to a happy place for a wee while, long may that continue for you, and everyone. Thanks for your step-by-step, I think the close-up pictures will be a helpful addition when I get caught up to doing this drawing. I need all the help I can get!!! Scary messages day for me today, so I’ve been, and still am stressed out and agitated… And not helped by there being even more basics out of stock and no substitutes… I don’t know about where you are, but here the food shortages sure are getting worse by the week. Hopefully when I wake up tomorrow it will have settled down a bit.

I’ve not watched all your show today, but I’ve enjoyed what I did see. Methinks the log stamp set will be heading my way when I do my order at the weekend… Can’t justify the “wee” any more!!!

I hope you are chilling this evening. Chilling as in calm, not feeling freezing like here. It#s meant to be getting a wee bit milder by the weekend, yay. Love you xxx

  3. I really enjoyed drawing the feathers this morning and then continuing to add colour and shading to them until lunch time. It made me wonder where the morning went it! I was wearing the turquoise scarf I bought last year in Layburn this morning. When I wear it, it brings a smile to my face as I remember the fun I had that weekend with all my clarity friends and the laughs with the rest of the Scottish girls. Looking forward to tomorrow and hearing more of your New Mexico tales.

  4. Enjoyed crafting and listening to you this morning, it’s like having you in our living room. Made a bit of a mess with my dreamcatcher as did the circle bit ok on an A4 sheet but somehow turned it the other way to do the feathers therefore no room for the scene. Solved it with the photocopier though so all is good. I ended up doing the 3 different feathers, somehow I don’t think I was meant to do that. What am I like? Nevermind I’m enjoying this journey I can always start again another day. By the way love your tops. Love and hugs Pam xxx

  5. l look forward to catching up with the dream catcher at the weekend. I have so enjoyed doing some of the others and hubby has joined in too. Thank you for encouraging us to spread our wings into unfamiliar territory.
Had to go to the post office today (empty) to send out some orders and decided to pop over to the bank to do some paying in. There was a great long queue halfway down the high street, everyone obeying the distance rule, but the bank’s organisation was brilliant and the queue moved quickly. We were the only people wearing masks though.
So sad seeing so many of the shops closed instead of the bustling small market town it normally is. Some of the shops had been completely emptied and a couple were boarded up.
Now that the lockdown is being eased I sincerely hope there is not an upsurge in infections.
After watching your show this morning I had a wonderful few hours playing with both the stamps and the Groovi platesand now have lots of toppers to colour tomorrow. Got all my pens, pencils and paints laid out on the art table in the conservatory ready for a marathon colouring session. No housework, no cooking, no worries. Yippee !!!
Take care all, keep safe, keep smiling. 😊🍒🤩

  6. Loving our trip to New Mexico, my feathers looked a bit doubtful until I had penned them in & added the dots & lines. Your words of its not done until its finished came to mind – so true.
Thank you for the step by step to the funky feather, I will have a go at them later.
I think as the weeks have passed by we have all gained the confidence to put pen or pencil to paper & to get something quite presentable. Its great to see everyone’s creations on Facebook – same SHAC SHAC session but all with their own twist – brilliant. Thanks again Barbara, I think we will be doodling for a while yet as everything seems to be getting very muddled as to what we are meant to do or not meant to do at the moment.

  7. I’m really enjoying our trip to Albuquerque and I love the more stylised feather. Thanks for putting up this help sheet. I’ll definitely be using this when I next do a dream catcher. Thanks for everything Barbara – much appreciated.

  8. Thoroughly enjoying the dream catcher despite my feather phobia, would never have drawn them before and surprised I can get them to flick at the ends! It’s just deciding how to fill them in ! See you tomorrow ! X

  9. Evening Barbara. I reckon it’s just been really chilled and laid back which is how it should be for New Mexico! So don’t worry about taking things nice and slow. It just means we can keep up with you!
I’ve had a great inky crafty session this afternoon and completed some secret stuff which you no doubt will get to see pretty soon.
Have a relaxing evening. Love and hugs xxxx

  10. I have loved the visit to New Mexico and listening to your stories. Although I don’t watch the live session, it still feels as though I am in company when I watch after lunch. I have left my feathers plain for now, as i couldn’t Decide how to do them. I am waiting to do the shading tomorrow and then might get more adventurous.
I have been doodling a collection of small cards to send to friends, just to say hello. I never thought that I would be drawing my own pictures, so thanks again for giving me the confidence. See you tomorrow. Hugs. Annette X

  11. Enjoyed today’s hour in the shac shack ..thank you Barbara. It’s so nice to feel I have company for a while and makes me feel am still part of the real world, our real crafty world, where we craft, have a cuppa and a laugh. Have decided I shall not draw another feather unless it’s attached to a bird, ridiculous…can’t be that difficult…. so settled for doodles!!! Looking forward to next session. Many thanks.

  12. Good evening Barbara
I really enjoyed today. I actually joined in live with everyone doing my shading and had a go at the arty feather not coloured it yet though.
You have definitely hit a place in my memories, I’ve not been to New Mexico but have visited Mexico several times on holiday and I have a few bits of jewellery I will have to look them out if you would like to see them.
I count my blessing every day and you in your shac shack are a blessing you have enabled me to forget all that is going on in this world for a little while each day
So thank you and see you tomorrow at ten.

  13. Hi Barb,
I think slow is the way to go! I need a really slow pace so that I can follow!!! Love the step by step for the feather, thank you. Enjoying the New Mexico trip and I know that New Mexico has a special place in your heart – I’ve loved your blogs when you have been staying there. I bet you would love to be able to go there again once this mess is sorted out. Had an email to say that my two way overlay stamps are on their way to me , so looking forward to playing with them as the botanicals have been amongst my very favourite dies. Sending love and hugs,Alison xxx

  14. Am loving this project and got so carried away with it after this morning’s session that I continued working on the theme for hours afterwards, experimenting with various feather and bead styles….then went on to design some interesting frames and borders using them. Think it really resonated with me as both hubby & I are bird enthusiasts ( he keeps an aviary of them), members of RSPB, my favourite colour is turquoise and I make dreamcatchers as gifts.

  15. Loving are week in New Mexico haven’t coloured mine yet been playing a lot with feather trying to perfect it must but it down get it colour and finals it with pen looking forward to tomorrow’s trip. See you in morning xxx

  16. Hello Barb and all, I think I need to work backwards on my catch up doodling, as I love dream catchers, and this funky feather is brilliant. Take care and stay safe everyone. Bx

  17. Am so enjoying seeing everyone’s Doodles, and loving your demos. The new stamps coming this weekend look amazing – the Bird table is already on my list!! I’m hoping to catch up on some more colouring with my nuthatches this weekend, and think I may stick with the colouring rather than the doodling (although that may change again in a few weeks!)
