A Super Gemstone Lesson!

A Super Gemstone Lesson!

Hi there.

Thanks for popping in. I hope you are safe and well? We are rolling with the punches here at Clarity; no sooner have we made a plan than the goal posts get moved again. But we are absolutely in agreement with Downing Street that reducing social contact to an absolute mimimum is the only way forward. We’re all in this together, right?

As promised, here’s a wonderful, crystal clear step by step tutorial by Tina . What a gem!!!! I do love that woman. She knows I am up to my derriere in crocodiles right now, so she gives us a brilliantly easy to follow lesson, to not only teach us what so many of us what to master, but also take our minds off reality for a little while.

Right. Here’s the plan! I shall lay out the ingredients, the pics and the instructions, and then you are going to give it a go. Even if you haven’t got the exact same Groovi Parchlet, you can draw a circle and try the gem! Oh yes you can!!

Here’s what you need…

  • Groovi Plates:
  • Tina’s Morning Glory Flower Parchlet  GRO-FL-40969-01
  • Tina’s Star Flower Parchlet  GRO-FL-40986-01
  • Nested Circles Picot Cut A4
  • Square Groovi Plate  GRO-PA-41069-15

Step 1: Emboss the double square outlines using Pergamano 1mm embossing ball tool (or Groovi No 1) from the Morning Glory Flower Parchlet plate.

Step 2: On the front, deboss the smallest double outline circles in the middle of the smaller square from the Nested Circles Picot Cut groovi plate using the Pergamano 1.5mm embossing ball tool (or Groovi No 2).

Step 3: On the back, emboss the floral design around the circles from the Morning Glory Flower Parchlet plate, the flower centres with Pergamano 1.5mm embossing ball tool (or Groovi No 2) and the rest of the design with Pergamano 1mm embossing ball tool (or Groovi No 1).

Step 4: Emboss the floral design outside the small squares from the Star Flower Parchlet plate, the circles with Pergamano 1.5mm embossing ball tool (or Groovi No 2) and the rest of the design with Pergamano 1mm embossing ball tool (or Groovi No 1).

Step 5: Freehand emboss the circles on the Pink Excellent mat. That’s why the parchment changed colour in the photo! It’s the pink mat underneath!

Step 6: Colour on the back with Perga Colours Exclusives.

Now for the gemstone Ready?!

Step 7: On the front, colour the gemstone with Perga Liner B pencils.

Step 8: Blend with Dorso oil, blending pen and nibs.

Step 9: For depth, colour on the back with the same pencils as on the front.

Step 10: Blend with Dorso oil, blending pen and nibs.

Step 11: Draw crack lines using a sharp B pencil. I used the blue one as I thought the black one would be too harsh.

Step 12: Add highlight using a Pergamano white gel pen.

Step 13:From the front, deboss between the double circle outlines gently.

Finished Card: Mount and layer the parchment piece on Great Lakes designer paper and white card using brads.

Here’s a recap as a download too. Thanks Tina!!!

Ah yes! Blog candy! Before I forget, you kindly guessed at the girl’s name yesterday, remember? Loads of very apt suggestions, but there was a winner!

Well done Lilian! If you email me your address, ( to Barbara@claritystamp.com) I shall get the little canvas out to you. Hope you like it!

Anyway, time to call it a day.

Rest assured, we’re here to keep you company, whatever happens. And we’ve got a brilliant little surprise worked out for you tomorrow! I hope it works! Yikes!

Love and Hugs

  1. Beautiful gem stone. I have tried o few, and while OK, I now I could practice more and improve.
Life has changed, so much in the last few days and we are finding our new normal. I got up this morning to a text telling me not to go to work. To stay safe.
That is what I am going to do. I will fill my days with some house chores and lots of crafting and a bit of gardening as I have bought seeds to plant and care for over the next few weeks.
I am going to look forward to sitting down with you every day and reading what you have to say to us. Just like I do every day, so it’s one bit of life that won’t change. So glad that we all have each other and our crafting to keep us busy.

  2. Hi Barb. So sorry I have not been commenting lately, but after having a terrible cough etc (thankfully not the virus), I was just out of it, worried about my family and unmotivated. I am trying hard to get my crafting mojo back and this might just get me started. The lovely Tina taught me to do gems at the ENGG last year, so this is a good refresher. Thank you Tina!
A new stock of parchment is on its way, so fingers crossed.
Thank you for your wonderful, positive blog posts and for cheering us up no end. Stay safe. Hugs. Annette X

  3. Will be giving these a try. Love them. Hope you are all managing to do what you need to do while keeping safe. Intrigued to see what you have in store tomorrow. Xx

  4. Will give this a try once the spring cleaning is done! Went back to April 2015 in blog land to download the teapot for a non- crafter friend to colour in. Possibly another convert! Can’t believe how many people have walked or driven past today as if nothing has changed. Do these people not realise how serious this is? Thank you for all you & the team are doing to keep us occupied. It is greatly appreciated xxx

  5. Look forward to trying this wonderful step by step, thank you Barbara and Tina. I’d be sp proud if I can manage to do it. So appreciate all you are doing to keep us busy and to help us get through this together. Well done Lillian. Take care and keep safe everyone. Love and hugs Pam xxx

  6. Thank you (and Tina) for today’s inspiration. Our crafting will keep us going indefinitely I am sure.
We live in a very quiet area so we see few people anyway and as we are self isolating we expected to see even fewer. However a neighbour enquired if we were OK and hubby got a wave from a dog walker when he put out the bin this morning
It is very worrying that there are some people who are ignoring the Government advice. I hate being restricted and being told what to do, albit temporary, but in this crisis we must show consideration for others. The sooner people comply the sooner it will be over.
    Keep safe everyone. 🍒🍒🍒

  7. Thanks Tina. That’s gorgeous. Your step by step with close up photos is very helpful.

I’ve been trying a few gemstones. I’m not very good at blending with the oil yet. It will take practice, but these look so good that I’m determined to keep trying.

  8. Hi there, Thank you for the step by step. I will give that a go. I decided not to engage with Covid-19 today. This is day 2 in the house and it hit me that this is how it’s going to be so decided to craft! Got my head in a better place so can carry on. I can engage with Covid-19 again tomorrow. I have one card and a PTC ready to post. My swap partner is ok with me posting it. I have to go out tomorrow anyway. Looking forward to your surprise tomorrow although I think I know what it might be!! Hope today was successful. Hx

  9. Congratulations Lilian on thinking of the name Gemma, enjoy the lovely canvas.
I have downloaded the instructions on to do the gems so will give it ago over the next few weeks. They look so realistic that you can almost feel the dome effect.
Read Grace’s blog earlier & entered her Birthday Raffle. Doesn’t her room look great with all the decorations that her Mark put up before he went to work !!
Look forward to hearing what you have all got lined up for us tomorrow & also hoping that the postman brings me some happy post. He was early today & like a child I ran down the stairs to find my credit card bill & a Farmfood leaflet !!

  10. I must must must get my pencils out tomorrow and get a gem done again. Its ages since I did one. Tina’s is fantastic!
    Hope you sleep OK tonight.
Relax a little too if you can.
    Love and hugs xxx
