Deep Time

Deep Time

Hi there,

Thanks for popping in. Wonderful carpet of yellow outside the back door today. A ginkgo leaf carpet. Grace and Mark are loving it too….

Decided to blog a leaf today. Question: Can you draw on a leaf? Answer: Yes.

So here’s a simple step by step, drawing on a ginkgo leaf, an old, dried ginkgo leaf…

Pick a leaf, any leaf. Look carefully at it. Study it. Do you see the landsape within its veins? Do you see the treeline? Here, let me help you…

Deep time. Dave and I went for a long walk today, up in the wet woods. We talked about trees and how they live and love. How they communicate with each other through an intricate root system and fungi, and how they even help each other. Have done for thousands of years. Hence “Deep Time”. Deep down in the earth.

On with the leaf-art….

Such a delicate thing, a leaf. So breakable. I was handling it so carefully, yet still it broke apart.

A world within a little leaf. Such a fragile thing. We really ought to look after our planet better, oughtn’t we? You know it. I know it.

Love and Hugs,

Barb xxx

  1. Wow that’s lovely, how did you attach it to the card . Do like a good walk this time of year ,all wrapped up,then home to a wide fire and hot chocolate xx

  2. Beautiful, and so unusual. I’m surprised you managed to find a dried up leaf today though – our garden is full of fallen leaves, but they’re all soggy!
How have you attached it to the card / canvas?

  3. What a lovely idea 😀 you do inspire us to think outside the box. Received my Birds die trio and stencils today. Wanted to try them out straight away.
We were out at the crack of dawn to do the shopping so we had a free day to relax and craft. What do they say about the best laid plans of mice and men gang oft aglay?
We had so many interruptions and over 50 emails (not counting spam) that had to be answered immediately we never got to do our own thing.
Your walk sounds wonderful but it was too wet here to even consider it even if we had time.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend.
    Hugs to all 🍒🍒🍒

  4. I’ve been collecting leafs for the past week, put them between blotting paper and under a heavy weight. I’m going to use them for a little project I’m going to do when they’re dry x

  5. Love your leaf. I collected several leaves of different kinds (sadly no gingko trees near us) to do the technique on the November calendar this time. I’ve done 3 and am really pleased with them. I have to mount them on something (any ideas?) and have 4 more that have dried well to try Christmas designs. I used the masks suggested on the calendar for the first 3 but want to try stamping with some of the others -does anyone know if this will work? I’ll try and show them on the Clarity fb page when done.

  6. Love your leaf art, in fact I have been admiring your leafy wonders all month so far as the November page is a beautiful landscape on a leaf. My new bird stencils and dies arrived today so can’t wait for a play with them. Thanks to Maria and the DT team I have lots of ideas. XX

  7. Look forward to seeing them Janet. Indried some large leaves last year but they were way too fragile to do anything with. Have to try again this year.

  8. This is lovely Barb, wish I could see what you saw in that leaf. Glad you enjoyed your walk with Dave, it’s been nice here too this afternoon but just had a walk indoors at our local Mall, a bit boring but looking for Christmas gifts, has to be done.xxx

  9. Our poor planet mother earth. Things destroyed for money and gain. When will we ever learn? My heart bleeds for the waste of it all.

  10. Hi Barb,
This is gorgeous. I would never have thought of this. I have been admiring the November page on the calendar as well. I love trees but never new about their communication skills etc until I watched a programme on tv with Judi Dench explaining it all. It was fascinating and she obviously loves trees too. I’m glad you and Dave had a lovely walk and that you have had a dry day for a change! I’m just off to pack my bag ready for my Groovi workshop with Linda Page in a couple of hours. Love and hugs,Alison xxx

  11. Hello Barb, hope you and Dave had a lovely walk. I guess until you try something you never know if it will work, however I had no idea you could draw on a leaf. Love it. Take care all. Bx
