Dash about.

Dash about.

Hi there,

Thanks for popping in. Bit of a runaround today. Correction. Lot of a runaround today. Dashing here, dashing there. Playing catch up because I took a couple of days off. Trying to cram a full day into a morning, because I want to get to my pottery class in the afternoon. Get there an hour late late. Pottery was fun though. Lace in porcelain. How fab is that?!

Dash back home and crack on with what got left in the morning. And then it gets to 7.30 in the evening, and I remember this ere blog. It’s rubbish, innit. Ask me if I’ve eaten. Ask me if I meditated. Ask me if I had a brisk power walk to clear the head. I dare you!

It’s all very well KNOWING what’s needed, what’s healthy and what’s not. It’s a whole other ball of wax actually taking action! Ain’t that the truth!

So I’ve made up my mind. And it starts here. The blog comes first. It rises to the top of the pile. I start my day with our blog. Can’t promise I’ll power walk before a hearty breakfast – in fact, I’d go as far as to say NOT A CHANCE! But I honestly think it will work better than sitting here in the evening trying to be creative and upbeat. Especially if it’s been a challenging day.

So tomorrow, before I even get in the car, I shall come and chat to you. It may be well before you get up, but do pop in. The point is, I have to break the habit of blogging last thing and develop the habit of blogging first thing!

Simple really. It’s like most habits. As soon as you can feel the benefits of the new order of things, and you get into the new routine, it comes easier. Is there something you have been wanting to change or do differently? Well, there’s never been a better time than NOW!! Tell us what it is. Tell us what you want to change. The minute you announce it, you will be one step closer to actually doing something about it!! Doesn’t have to be a mammoth thing either. Just baby steps.

I want to stop eating bread and lose a stone. May as well start that now too.

Time to eat some lettuce and go to bed then !! 5am comes round fast!

Love and Hugs,

Barb xx

  1. Well the ‘bread free diet” will have to start tomorrow, for tonight it’s’Abendbrot’….a.k.a. Evening Bread…..and its ready now ! x

      1. Bread free will make you feel so much better anyway, getting rid of a lot of gluten. However, if you are eating lettuce, make sure it is not the iceberg type. It can make you feel quite ill, bloated, and, in fact, you should never give it to animals like rabbits as it makes them ill. There is a particular chemical in icebergs that causes the problem. xxx Maggie (Silvercrafter)

  2. They say a change is as good as a rest, so hopefully this change will work for you. It will be a change for me too, as I always check in after dinner. Now it will be at breakfast time, so a happy start to my day.
The lace in porcelain is amazing. Just beautiful.
    Sleep well. Hugs. Annette X

  3. Hi Barb, glad you managed to fit pottery in today. I do so hope you achieve your goals. Yep, it’s doing the thing until it becomes a habit, that’s the trick, and it DOES work, if you want it bad enough and are prepared to put the work in every single day. Willpower, we all have it within us, the choice for each of is, put the effort in to achieve the goal/s in life, or sit on your bum and moan about it. As for me, what I need changed, sadly, isn’t so straightforward, I need my life to change. Correction, I need the chance to actually live, not just exist, but sadly I don’t know where that door and pathway is, been searching for many years. And it needs the help of other people because of my autism and cfs limitations, and that’s where it all falls down… Every day is a huge effort for me just to maintain things as they are. I hope you have managed to catch up on your work, so you can end today with the boxes ticked and start tomorrow with a new list of boxes needing ticked. Love you xxx

    1. Hi there, Brenda, Changing your life is a huge task. It’s a huge task for anyone. I’ve just been thinking… If you could wave a magic wand and change just one part of your life, I wonder what that might be. Once you know, maybe think of what the first tiny step might be to achieving that. Just one tiny step and maybe see if that works for you. Just a thought. Hx

  4. Lave looks beautiful Barbara so clever. I look after my latest grandchild 3 afternoons a week its amazingly good for me but does make life incredibly busy I know your thought!!

  5. That lace in porcelain looks fantastic, Barbara. I recently took up pottery, too, but the class is in Spanish and sometimes things lose a lot in translation 🙂 But I love it. I don’t produce anything like you do, though. One day, eh! Good luck with your morning blogs and with giving up the bread. I need to do that too. Forgot to have lunch today (I was reading… bliss). At 4pm I was suddenly hungry enough to eat a hairy bear. But I settled for two great big stonking slices of seeded bread, toasted, with butter and jam. Lovely. Oh yeah, I could stand losing a stone (or two) myself! 🙂 Good luck with that, too. I’m sure you’ll get there.

  6. After losing 12 pounds post emergency surgery in the summer, the loss has stalled, because other health issues, namely fatigue, linger. Part of me thinks I should follow your lead and workout first thing, but if I did, I’d likely be asleep by noon. However, I need to push past the bleugh of shortening days and get out for a walk after work. As long as it isn’t raining that is! xoxo

  7. Hi Barb, beautiful lace design – cannot wait to see the end product. Try low GI bread – from Lidl its a) tasty and b) better for you than a lot of bread (and it can be frozen). I panicked when you mentioned the blog as I thought you were going to abandon it which would have been a real shame as it puts a smile on many faces.

  8. I’ve been trying (and needing) to get early nights so sometimes miss the blog till the following day. I will be able to read now while I eat breakfast so your change will be good for me. The thing I want to change is getting crafty every day, I go through stages of doing things and then losing the motivation/mojo for a while and then it comes back. So little and often will be good for me. Love the look of the lace in the porcelain, I remember people using that on the Pottery throwdown to make chandeliers, the light came through so beautifully. Hope you enjoy your evening bread! Xx

  9. The lace on pottery looks to be a winner.
When we moved here 5 years ago I promised myself I would get into a routine to make more time for hobbies and crafting. New home, new way of working, plenty to keep the OH occupied. It never happened !!! Something always crops up to interfere with my plans so I’ve tried to go with the flow, but it’s hard. On the plus side hubby is very easy going, will cook if I am engrossed with my crafting, and makes me laugh when I get frustrated when things don’t go to plan.
I look forward to reading your early blog, it will be a good start to the day.
Hope you enjoyed your Abendbrot with Dave.
    Have a good evening.

  10. Hi Barbara,
Pottery looks beautiful. Look forward to seeing the finished article.
I have no idea how you manage to keep doing all that you do.
Good luck with the new regime.
    Love,
    Linda

  11. Hi Barbara, just love your blog.
This year my hubby and I sold our old house near the high way and bought a new house in a quiet town.we had been talking about it for 15 years. It is so great to be here.
    Xxx Pia

  12. I must admit I like starting the day with a blog post. It’s my reward post marking when I make some me time before heading off to work. Look forward to seeing yours in a morning from now on.

  13. 5 a.m.!!! That’s the middle of the night! Sadly, in some ways, I am not a morning person. It amazed me at Leyburn how much can be achieved before lunchtime!! Lol. The good thing about being a night bird is that the phone doesn’t ring and when you work from home, that is great! What do I need to change? I need to lose weight too and maybe the first step is to start eating properly at meal times. Therein lies the challenge! I also need to get exercise. I love walking along the canal on a nice day but when it is grey and horrible, I’m very much a couch potato and working from home doesn’t really help. I work with a laptop on my knee! However, maybe I need to take a small step forward but due to work, that will need to wait till next week! Love the lace work on your pottery. It is beautiful. Looking forward to seeing the finished article. Just remember when you are running ragged that no one ever lies on their death bed wishing they had spent more time in the office!! Just a thought! Take care. Looking forward to your blog tomorrow morning – sometime between nine and ten!! Hx

  14. I love the idea of starting the day with your blog and breakfast together. I am back on my juice diet which worked very well last time and made me feel so fit and healthy. xxx Maggie (Silvercrafter)

  15. Early blog. What a treat! I do worry about you if I’m off to bed and you haven’t posted. I’ll be able to be sure you are OK. 🙂Xx

  16. Hi Barb,
The lace on the pottery looks great and I’m looking forward to seeing the finished product. I’m also looking forward to your early blog as I tend to get up early so I’ll be able to start my day having my coffee, porridge and blog reading. We made a determined effort to get more active and joined the gym and pool about two and half years ago. I must admit the gym is a struggle for me (especially at the moment as I’m waiting to have my other knee replaced, hopefully before Christmas), but I do love my swimming. I’m now up to 100 lengths( just over a mile and a half) twice a week and got it down to 68 minutes! As I’m not allowed to do breaststroke ,because my knee revision won’t move laterally very well, I had to re- learn crawl and struggled so much with it but I kept at it and am chuffed to bits with myself! Good luck with the losing weight and not eating bread – it does work! Looking forward to the blog in the morning, love and hugs Alison xxx

  17. Hi Barb, love the lace work on the pottery, love your blog no matter what time.
Like so many of us I need to lose weight and move more, but with a dodgy health problem it’s not easy, but baby steps definitely the way to go, have cut out the bread and a cycle machine, managing 5/6 minutes three times a day. That’s a start anyway. Xxx

  18. The lace on your pottery looks really good. Look forward to your blog in the mornings. Don’t set yourself too many targets, things crop up as you know and you will be chasing your tail. Good idea to have goals though. I lost weight but have put some of it back on, the thing is I can’t do much about it at present as the only exercise I am able to have is walking even then I can only do very little or I suffer for days. Difficult to diet as all the things I should be eating (veg and fruit) give me upset stomachs. Hopefully I will eventually get some help with my back pain, good luck with your goals Barb and hope you enjoyed your evening bread.

  19. The lace on the clay is lovely. Can’t wait to see the completed piece.
Giving up bread would be a real struggle for me. We have a really wonderful french bakery in the next town and every bite is a bit of heaven. I have given up the mass produced stuff though. Too many ingredients that just don’t belong. Lots of preservatives and added sugars.
Delighted with your decision to blog early. I live in the States and can’t imagine a nicer way to start my morning.

  20. Great reading all the comments. Love the lace work on the porcelain. How is it achieved? Do you lay the lace on and somehow press it into the clay?
Good luck with your change in routine. As Linda say’s “your blog is great whatever the time of day”.
Time for bed (way past). xx

  21. Hello Barb, love the look of the lace on the pottery, very different, and I hope you will share the secret. There are quite a few things I would like to change, need to put them in order. And your blog, well whenever you do it, I will be there reading it, whether it is the minute you post or a few hours later, love it, and it gives me plenty of food for thought. Take care all. Bx

  22. I will commit to doing something crafty every day even if it’s only 5 mins of crochet in front of the TV. I like the idea of forming new positive habits one baby step at a time. I will also commit to sorting two items on my work desk and craft desk everyday . Someone might notice a difference by the end of the year! X

  23. The pottery lace is a lovely decorating technique. I have used it on air dry clay decorations, not in quite the same league as proper pottery I know, but fun.
I have always read your blog in the morning, it’s just as essential as all the other morning tasks, e.g. breakfast, shower, cup of tea ect.

  24. Love reading your blog everyday so don’t mind when I read it but starting the day with it sounds great. I gave up gluten for health reasons, I am not celiac thankfully but have found I feel much better & I have lost weight. Since my OH was sent on a type 2 diabetes course we have being watching our food a bit more closely as well. A large salad with a couple of rice cakes crumbled on the top is very tasty & filling for lunch. As with anything change always takes a while to get used to but soon becomes the norm. A fitbit is quite useful to as it beeps at 10 minutes to the hour to say move & how many steps you need to do to meet 250 target. It surprising how time flies by when you are crafting or reading emails, Facebook & blogs. Not always possible if you are in a meeting or in the car going somewhere but it is a challenge to get 9 out of 9 everyday !!
As a number of us have said its a case of taking small steps towards change & not setting huge targets that are off putting so we give up.
Now to read today’s blog – that’s an hour gone by already !! Told you time flies !!

  25. That lace effect is beautiful, look forward to seeing it ‘cooked’. Bread – don’t eat a lot but my weakness is the stuff with walnuts/pecans/cranberries in it – the I can eat a whole loaf, minus a slice or two for hubby. I only get it occasionally – can’t think why! Saying that I’ve had a pub lunch today – coronation chicken baguette and chips – oops ! I’d like to lose a stone too but will not be eating lettuce to do it. I must get a meal replacement chocolate drink as that does work for me when I get in the frame of mind to do it ! X
