Magpies are Magical.

Magpies are Magical.

Hi there.
Thanks for popping in.
I looked across, and what did I see?
A family of magpies staring back at me.
So majestic, beautiful, bold and haughty!
It was clear from their pose they were cheeky – no – naughty!
But see one alone, and I stop as do you,
and starting searching the trees for his mate number two.
Because one is for Sorrow,
Two is for Joy,
Three for a girl
Four for a boy.
Five for silver,
Six for gold,
Seven for a secret never to be told.
Eight for a wish
Nine for a kiss
Ten for a time of joyful bliss…
We have magpies everywhere at Clarity.
The stamp montage I used here on Shenandoah Card:
We even have three Magpie stencils.
Ask me if I like Magpies….
Mel Heaton, an dear old buddy of mine from Create & Craft, also like magpies. I shall never forget sitting with her years ago having supper at the Peterborough services, and she told me about the two magpies in her garden. I wonder if they’re still there….
Love & hugs,
Barb

  1. Good evening Barbara

Have a lovely evening I’m looking forward to Rosie’s shows on Wednesday. Hugs. Xx

  2. We have Magpies in our garden, I think they are beautiful, but theyvdo scarebyhe other birds away. I haven't got your magpie stamps only the groovi ones for now. Love this card you've done looks great on your new cardstock.xxx

  3. Love Magpies, the co;ours in their feathers are amazing. I am so grateful as well for your beautiful Shenandoah papers. I used some today for a quick card using your favourite boy and birds. xx

  4. Hi to all my bloggy friends, Hope you have had a good day. No craft today as have sciatica in my leg and back and uncomfortable sitting or bending, hopefully it'll ease and then I will be able to do some tomorrow.xxx

  5. Magpies are beautiful birds and a good size, in fact larger than other garden birds so can be rather bullying, driving the other birds away. We used to have lots of them in our garden in Surrey, but here in Somerset we don't seem to see them very much. I love the stamps, stencils and plates featuring them, and they look great against the Shenandoah paper Barbara. x

  6. Good morning Mr. Magpie! We have at least 8 around our garden and they give great entertainment in the summer when we watch them playing on the roof while we’re sitting in the garden. They do tend to cackle at our cats though – possibly because they’re black and white too ! Having a bird phobia means I’m not keen but as long as they’re not fluttering around me I don’t mind. Love the new card. Xx

  7. Hi Barb,
I have the magpie stencils and remember doing a gelli plate print following your instructions. Haven’t got the stamps but also have the Groovi plates. We have Magpies in our garden and whilst I think they are bonny birds, I don’t really like them. They really do bully the smaller birds which I don’t like, but have to say they scarper big style when the sparrow hawk comes around! Really like what you’ve done using the lovely Shenandoah card – I really do love these petite pads, the colours seem so much more vibrant for some reason. Sending love and hugs,Alison xxx

    1. Hi bloggy friends,
Hope everyone is ok, although Pam I’m sorry to hear you’ve got sciatica, I know how painful that can be. Hope you feel better soon. Looks like we are in for some snow tonight and tomorrow so that might put pay to swimming in the morning if the roads are bad ( not that I swim on the road !!!!) Sending love and hugs to you all, Alison xxxx

  8. One of the first birds in our garden after the crow when we moved in was the magpies beautiful birds have a mix know. And about thirty plus gold finches twice a day collect on the telly graph wire to the right of our garden never seen so many at ones out side xxx

  9. Hi Barbara
Beautiful artwork Barbara, these magpies sit so well on your new card don't they. I love the verse that goes with the stamps too. We have quite a few magpies around here too and yes I always look for the second one. They chase the small birds in our garden so I'm often out there flapping my arms aboutkeeping them amused!
    Love Diane xxxx

  10. Love watching all the birds that visit our garden, magpies always look 'smart' in their distinctive plumage but have to admit I'm not too keen on putting birds on cards…superstition thing I s'pose! xxx

  11. Hello Barb, love the colour of the background, perfect for the Magpie stamp. We have quite a few in our garden, as we always put bird food out, and I always look for number 2. Have a good day everyone. Bx

  12. We never see magpies up in the Highlands. I did see a sparrowhawk sitting on the fence in my garden last summer though! I love your montage stamps although I don't have this one – might have a little play with them today as we have snow showers today, so I'm not intending to go out. Good job I filled up the bird feeders yesterday. x
