Roffy Rothschild – modest little abode….

Roffy Rothschild – modest little abode….

Hi there!
Thanks for joining us on our little trip to Buckinghamshire.
Popped in to see an old mate, but he was out.
Roffy, we used to call him, as in Rothschild.
His bedroom was top right at the back – the box room.
But the view of the back garden was nice.
His parents used to go spare if we forgot to take our shoes off at the kitchen door, and sleepovers were a bit stiff.
I mean, I was ok when it came to mealtimes, because I eat pretty much anything apart from liver. But some of the kids from our estate struggled with the dishes – especially when they were still moving on the plate.
And the hot water took  f o r e v e r  to come through!
But we had hours of fun diving in the top of the bedding
and then trying to get out at the bottom.
Yes, how the other half lives, eh?
Waddesdon Manor.
What a place.

Just a modest retreat for the Rothschild family.
Here’s a little nugget for you to digest…
As of April 2017, the Rothschild family’s net worth was estimated at $400 billion.
That’s a lot of Mars bars !
Anyway, you know what they say: money isn’t everything.
Easy to say when you’ve got a wedge in your back pocket.
But actually, that insane kind of wealth really isn’t healthy, eh.
I mean, what would have value ? What would be precious? If you could buy ANYTHING you wanted, what would be the point? You’d have to give it all away for it to have a value, wouldn’t you?
And all the wealth in the world won’t buy you good health.
No no no…
A lovely bunch of flowers for mum and a cosy little crash pad round the corner from Roffy’s.

Perfect.
Love & Hugs,
Barb and Mum

  1. I love reading your daily snippets Barb – after a rubbish day at work they really bring a smile to my face. Money doesn't buy you happiness either – that is something you have to make yourself. Glad you have had fun with your mum – precious times – something else money can't buy. Xxxxxx

  2. Fabulous photos Barbara! I just cannot imagine that amount of money and as you say how can it have any meaning. I would hate all of that – a saying that I saw recently was – the happiest people are those who are contented with what they have! I almost fit into that, just my Clarity wish-list that lets it down! Haha! Love and hugs to you and Mum, Gilly xxx

  3. Beautiful photo of you and your mum. You are so right about money, so long as my family are happy and healthy that is fine. Have had a lovely morning with my brother and his wife . Please tell your mum she really does not look eighty must be something in the water down south. xx

  4. How the other half live!! But are they any happier? You are so right, you can't buy happiness or good health. Glad you and mum have had such a good time together. It will have done you both good.

  5. I've always said if I had a big win on the lottery I'm very willing to share! Looks like you and your mum are having a wonderful time together which is as it should be to celebrate her special birthday. Keep smiling while you make more lovely memories xxx

  6. Lovely photos again today. It is always interesting going around the homes of the great and the rich. I love imagining, like you what it would have been like live or visit there at various points during history. Recent!y, my cousins rented Auchinleck house in Ayrshire for a long weekend, which still looks like a stately home but you can stay in it! We had fun imagining what it would be like there in Victorian times.

    1. Hi Fiona,
Well that Scottish Tablet is playing havoc with my weight loss!! I'm going to have to do an extra gym session and double the lengths I think!!! It is lovely though – thank you . Love and hugs Alison xxx

  7. Hi Barb,
Definitely a case of how the other half live! I'm not sure I would like that much money and have always said that if I won the lottery, I would only like enough to live comfortably without having to worry! Mind you I would need quite a bit to keep my Clarity habit going!!! Anyway, it looks as though you two are having a great time. Love and hugs to you both, Alison xxxx

  8. Lovely photos, your mum looks amazing. 400 million, I could do a lot of things with that and still have 399 million left! As you say no amount of money can buy good health or happiness. I always say if I won the lottery I would make sure my children had a nice home, money for my grandchildren's education and a comfortable retirement with the odd holiday thrown in. Don't need millions xx

  9. Glad you and your Mum had another good day Barbara, and Waddesdon Manor is a very stately, stately home. You know the saying 'the best things in life are free' it really is true. x

  10. Hi Barbara and Mum
Looks like another wonderful day, your take on life always makes me chuckle. Oh yes, all that money but I bet they aren't as happy as you and your mum. Take care.
    Love Diane xxx

  11. How strange, one of John's photography pals was there the other day posting photos on Facebook of it all lit up at night! I love old stately homes but they must cost a fortune in upkeep. Don't think I would like to have so much money that it lost all meaning. x
