Popped in to see an old mate, but he was out.
Roffy, we used to call him, as in Rothschild.
His bedroom was top right at the back – the box room.
But the view of the back garden was nice.
His parents used to go spare if we forgot to take our shoes off at the kitchen door, and sleepovers were a bit stiff.
I mean, I was ok when it came to mealtimes, because I eat pretty much anything apart from liver. But some of the kids from our estate struggled with the dishes – especially when they were still moving on the plate.
And the hot water took f o r e v e r to come through!
But we had hours of fun diving in the top of the bedding
and then trying to get out at the bottom.
Yes, how the other half lives, eh?
Waddesdon Manor.
What a place.
Just a modest retreat for the Rothschild family.

That’s a lot of Mars bars !
Anyway, you know what they say: money isn’t everything.
Easy to say when you’ve got a wedge in your back pocket.
But actually, that insane kind of wealth really isn’t healthy, eh.
I mean, what would have value ? What would be precious? If you could buy ANYTHING you wanted, what would be the point? You’d have to give it all away for it to have a value, wouldn’t you?
And all the wealth in the world won’t buy you good health.
No no no…

Fabulous photos Barbara! I just cannot imagine that amount of money and as you say how can it have any meaning. I would hate all of that – a saying that I saw recently was – the happiest people are those who are contented with what they have! I almost fit into that, just my Clarity wish-list that lets it down! We have very little money but by gum! We are happy. Can't buy that with a billion dollars xxx You look so happy and relaxed xx

Lovely photos again today. It is always interesting going around the homes of the great and the rich. I love imagining, like you what it would have been like live or visit there at various points during history. Recent!y, my cousins rented Auchinleck house in Ayrshire for a long weekend, which still looks like a stately home but you can stay in it! We had fun imagining what it would be like there in Victorian times.

I'm not sure I would like that much money and have always said that if I won the lottery, I would only like enough to live comfortably without having to worry! Lovely photos, your mum looks amazing. 400 million, I could do a lot of things with that and still have 399 million left! As you say no amount of money can buy good health or happiness. I always say if I won the lottery I would make sure my children had a nice home, money for my grandchildren's education and a comfortable retirement with the odd holiday thrown in. Don't need millions xx

What a reasonable amount of money does, is buy you freedom from worry. I am a pensioner, and worry about paying for every bill that comes .

How strange, one of John's photography pals was there the other day posting photos on Facebook of it all lit up at night! I love old stately homes but they must cost a fortune in upkeep. Don't think I would like to have so much money that it lost all meaning. x
