Chase your Dreams – a stencil technique

Chase your Dreams – a stencil technique

Hi there.
Thanks for popping in.
Woke up this morning with a list of things to remember as long as your arm next to the bed, because this morning we have to start our trip up north for the CLARITY OPEN DAY in North Yorkshire.
And at the top of the list was BLOG.
The girl’s got her priorities right!
So I packed my little suitcase, and then skipped off past Dave,
who was working on the Porsche (another one who’s got his priorities right!) and came up here to try something which I woke up thinking about…
How would one of our Whimsy stencils which our Annie designed look in black on one of the new Designer Papers?
And how do you get the plastic part of the stencil to be the line art? The black?
This should read Chase your Tail !!!
Here’s how:
OPTION 1:
Spread the Golden Open Payne’s Grey paint over the back of the stencil. You can use a brayer and roll it directly onto the stencil.
Use copy paper underneath the stencil.
OPTION 2:
Use the  Gel Press plate, the 8″x10″ as a paint transfer plate if you prefer.
Spread with a brayer.

Lay the stencil down on the wet paint face up.

Blot with copy paper.
This will help you push the stencil into the paint.

Peel the stencil off the Gel press plate and transfer to a sheet of our Designer Paper.
Since Thursday’s blog is always blue, I went with this one from the new Indian Summer Set.
Now to get the pressure you need to transfer the paint beautifully, you need a mangle.
I have an E-Bosser. Any one of the many die cutting machines will do the job.
You just need a rubber shim in the sandwich.
This was my sequence from the bottom:

Rubber shim

If you flip the stencil and the paper as I did, you will get the embossing the right way round too.
Basically, you’ve got a 50/50 chance.

Trim the paper….

Then lay it onto another sheet of the same,
creating continuity in the background.

It worked so well!
What I woke up visualizing is just what I got.

Love it when it works, don’t you?
A couple of tips:
Not too much paint.
If you don’t have a Gelpress plate (less messy)
just spread the paint over the back of the stencil with the brayer.

I love this stencil set. They are all available individually.
But what a delightful set Annie has designed.

Anyway, I must go now, I really must.
It’s a long way.
But there are loads of the Clarity team from the Northern Quarter pitching in to help and play, so it will be a delight to hang out with them all for a couple of days.
Join us if you can, on Saturday, at Tennants Auction House in Leyburn, North Yorkshire.
It is a fabulous venue.
Love & Hugs,
Barb

  1. Wow I love this Barbara – defo going to give this technique a go with stencils I have. Have a good trip up to Leyburn and a fab weekend too. Big hugs all round please. See you soon. 😉😉

    1. Hi bloggy friends – hope that you are all as well as can be. I am having a rest day to build up some energy for Saturday. SO looking forward to meeting as many of you as possible. Love and hugs Gilly xxx

  2. Fab technique – will give it a go once the Christmas cards are finished! Safe journey 'oop norf' at least you're not travelling on Friday which is always a nightmare and a half heading North for the weekend. Really looking forward to seeing you all again on Saturday – I'm just about to check that Sat Nag is up to date and our route already planned, then just have the shopping list to double check for necessities – doubtless it'll be added to when I see all the wonderful goodies 'in the flesh' so to speak. Take care and thanks in advance for all the hard work from the whole team who make it such a wonderful day for everyone who attends. Hugs to all xxx

  3. Hi Barb,This looks so good against the blue Indian Summer paper. Hope you have a good and safe journey up here. Looking forward to seeing you again at a Leyburn. Love and hugs Alison xxx

  4. I hope the journey is OK. At least you shouldn't be diverted off through the depths of Yorkshire this year as the A1 upgrade opens tomorrow as far as Catterick.
Anyone who hasn't been to Tennants before – you're in for a treat it's a lovely place, we like to pop in for lunch or coffee and view forthcoming sale lots out of curiosity.
Barbara only had one room last year and it was very good however with two rooms and make and takes etc it will be brilliant this year.
So many from the blog seem to be coming and it would be great to get everyone together like last year so we could all put faces to names.

  5. Looks a fabulous venue, looking forward to it. Bags packed, Chauffeur ready ( Fred ) and bank manager warned. Oh and a good stock of beans in the cupboard. Like the idea of black line art it worked well. Safe trip see you there. xx

  6. Great artwork Barbara!
Looking forward to meeting up with all the teamies tomorrow and everyone else on Saturday! I should be with you in the morning all being well! X

  7. Hello Barb, I love this idea, and really must get round to trying it. It looks beautiful on the Blue paper, just like clouds. Have a safe trip, and enjoy all the company you will have. Bx

  8. Great stencil idea, I have used it before made a huge mess as I don't have a big gelli plate. It was so good to have the stencil bit coloured, thank you for reminding me to do this again! Hope the journey goes without traffic problems. I think the Clarity crew should all make high kicking grand entrances down that staircase! Xx
