I think we may have something here….

I think we may have something here….

Hi there.
Thanks for popping in.
Hot, or what ???
Friday’s blog a private peek, right?
Paul and I ventured into the garage where all the workshop stash is today, to sort it out.
The last time we went in there was when we dumped last year’s gear – A YEAR AGO!
Shameful…
The thing is, we just fly from one job to the next,
and I distinctly remember saying to Paul last summer after the retreats,
“Right, Paul, this time we won’t leave it a year before we tidy up in here and sort out all the workshop stuff. ”
Then we galloped on to the next gig, whatever it was, and the next, and the next, and then before you know it, a year has passed,
and there could be squirrels in there doing Groovi for all we know!

What a shambles!
But hey ho. We are all happy to be busy.
Here we see Paul sifting through the gear.

TV glamourous? We think not!

This is our half of the garage – the crafty end.
The Christmas decs are in the middle and
Dave has the other half for his Man-Cave and the motorbikes.
Cars? Have never seen the inside of this 3-car garage!
They’ve got about as much chance of squeezing in here as I have of getting into those size 12 jeans I refuse to throw away!
After 7 hours of cleaning (we got the bug) and making lots of huge spiders homeless, our half looks pretty clean and tidy.
Well. Clean and tidy is probably a bit strong.
You can get in there without being frightened something or someone is going to jump out at you.
And we know where everything is.
Dave’s half on the other hand, still looks like it’s been burgled.
Here we have a rare artefact from his corner, which I am considering submitting to the Tate Modern…

The Stiff Brush
Stands alone, unaided, in a black pool of dry paint.
That’s quite deep, isn’t it….

We could call it Blackpool!
Eat your heart out Tracey Emin!
Dave got there first!

Have a great weekend.
Love & Hugs,
Barb

  1. Hahahahahahaha that made me howl Barb!! That's just the sort of thing my hubby would do!! Must be a man thing eh. Really looking forward to tje retreat – just make sure you get rid of all the spiders!! Lol. Have a lovely weekend. Xxc

  2. Hope the retreats go well after all that work. Can't come this year. Fingers crossed that dates and places work for next year as I loved the one I attended

  3. Well done, Dave. Perhaps he would like to start up classes in a different way of creating brush art. I think it is rather clever and probably unique. Looking forward to playing with the contents of that garage very soon. xxx Maggie

  4. Ha ! Ha! A great abstract piece of art you have there. Perhaps, if I look hard enough, I'll find something like that in our garage, I take my life in my own hands when I wander to the end with the spare freezer in it! Have a good weekend ! X

  5. You could just pop along to a gallery and just leave it on a stand and people would believe it was part of the exhibition! Glad your part of the garage is tidier now. I find tidying the craft room hard as I always get distracted by something I uncover. XX

  6. Hi Barb,
That has made me giggle! I have to say, I think Dave's work of art is far better than half ( if not three quarters) of the stuff in the Tate Modern! My craft room certainly needs a thorough tidy up – any chance you and Paul could pop up here?! Love and hugs Alison xxxx

    1. Hi bloggy friends,
Hope you are all ok. We actually had a bit of sun this morning, but it's back to black clouds, bit of rain and a bit chilly! At least I managed to get my sister's grass cut before she arrives home from her holiday – first time in three weeks that we've been able to cut it! Pam, I haven't seen Morag for ages as I haven't been though to Durham with not being able to drive. Love and hugs to you all, Alison xcc

    2. Hi Alison, I can provide tea and cake if you come and cut our grass 😀. Only juking, we must get it cut this weekend as it looks dreadful. Sending hugs xxx

    3. Hi Alison – our grass needs cutting too! We have been waiting for someone to come and cut it for a few weeks, as Neill can't do it. We're still waiting! We have had very good weather here today. Love and hugs, Gilly xx

    4. Sorry to disappoint girls, but I only do it because my sister is older than me and would probably kill me if I didn't do it!!! ( only joking!) xxx

  7. Well done Dave, could this be described as mixed media? If you are in a sorting out mood Barbara and Paul, I have a craft room in desperate need!??
My husband says he ties a rope to the bannisters before he ventures in so he can find his way out again!
    Gayle xx

  8. At last . . . . . a garage that beats ours! Room for the car but the other side has furniture from Holland, China and the States still export packed and of course, all my many boxes of school books which are looking for a new home! As for the Tate Modern exhibit – we have a paint roller tray with a man-sized shoe emulsioned to the base circa 1997! ;~}

  9. love Dave's piece of art !! glad to see there are others with craft rooms that need a tidy but when I try to tidy I tend to find things I have forgotten about & go off on a tangent, ending up with it worse than when I started. One day !! meanwhile I have moved to the dining room table !! Happy crafting everyone !!

  10. Hi Barbara, love Dave's art, you could retire on that piece…. Bet you're feeling good, and satisfied, after your sort out clean up day. I think you maybe managed it a wee bit earlier than you did last year, so it's progress!!! Not that hot up here, I have a big cardi on, and cold feet! And no sign of that big yellow thing that's meant to be in the sky either!

Thought this might be apt for you Barbara, after the carry on you were subjected to – Every day may not be good, but there is something good in every day. Sometimes you just need to look a wee bit harder.

Hope you have a good weekend. Love Brenda xx

Hi everyone who doesn't comment. I think Barbara could do with as much love and appreciation as possible from us all. So please come say hi, and leave some for her. Thanks

  11. Love it , beats my husbands row of jam jars with stiff brushes in . At least Daves looks like a piece of art . The garage , well ours is a contender!!! Rejoined the gold club again this week looking forward to what's to come x

  12. Hi Barbara
Oh this did make me laugh, are cars supposed to go in the garage? It sounds like you had fun whilst you were clearing though and of course the weather was just right. Love Daves piece of art, I think you should put it on eBay and see how much you can get for it! Have a good evening.
    Love Diane xxx

    1. Hello everyone hope you are all ok. Been so hot here again today but it's getting a bit cooler now. We are sat listening to a Brian Adams concert which is on at the cricket ground 2 miles away! We can almost hear every word. Sending hugs xxx

    2. Hi Diane,
Would you like to send some sunshine up to the North East please?! I'm getting so frustrated watching Wimbledon with everyone sitting with fans and the players with ice towels whilst we are still having to put the heating on every now and then! I do like Bryan Adams as well – free concert, lucky you! Love and hugs Alison xx

  13. Haha! You did make me laugh out loud tonight!
It's obviously clear out Friday. Colin decided to have a sort out of the cupboard in our lounge that's actually under the stairs. We use it for all sorts but also to store our library of dvd and of old videos. As we no longer own a video player Colin decided they had to go! So he set too this morning to clear it out and tidy up! 3 hours later and 160 old videos cleared out we now have more space and a tidy cupboard!
Really looking forward to coming to the retreat and seeing some old friends and making new ones too! And meeting those people I 'know' but have never met'.
    Have a restful weekend.
    Love and hugs! Xxxx

  14. HeeHee, thanks for a good laugh to start the weekend. I don't know why those buildings are called garages, because I don't know anyone who keeps a car in one! Mine has an old fridge/freezer (now a useful paper store, unplugged of course!) and lots of other craft stuff which has spilled over from the house, plus the usual bikes etc.
I wish I could swap with you though, as I bet yours is a treasure trove!
As a Blackpool girl, I was honoured that you chose that name for your paint "sculpture". However, I now live in Milton Keynes, so perhaps you should start looking for some concrete cows amongst your treasure!
    Have a great weekend. X

  15. Sounds like you and Paul have had a really satisfying and productive day! It's a great feeling when everything has been cleaned and sorted! I only know of one person who puts his car in his garage! Ours is full of 'stuff' and probably 75% of it will need to be got rid of! Well done to Dave for his creative piece of art, aka Blackpool! Love and hugs, Gilly xxx

    1. Hi bloggy friends – it has been a beautiful day here and we have made the most of it. This afternoon we met up with some really good friends at a garden centre, for coffee. Then we made a spur of the moment decision to go to Padstow and we pretended to be tourists and had fish and chips in a restaurant overlooking the harbour. then a little walk around. It was great and totally unplanned – I hope that you have all enjoyed your day too! Love and hugs, Gilly xxx

    2. Hi Gilly,
Sounds like you've had a lovely day. Last time I went to Padstow was 30 years ago and it was still quite quiet and Rick Sten had 1 restaurant ( now he has a few I believe) . It still cost a fortune to eat there then!! Anyway, pleased you've both enjoyed being " tourists" love and hugs Alison xxx

  16. Good to do some tidying Barbara and at least you know where all the crafty stuff is now, not so sure about the brush stuck in the paint lid. It could definitely be viewed as a work of art though so maybe you could send it for auction, it could be worth a mint…lol. x

  17. Well you did have a good sort out. I reckon most garages are store houses these days. Ours used to be and has never seen a car either, now it is our dining room after we decided on a conversion. Love Dave's artwork, could make a fortune there. Just been to celebrate our eldest grandaughter's birthday, lovely family get together. I made the cake of course. Bit of practice Barbara for a couple of weeks time. xx

  18. Tremendous! My husband has a man cave just like Dave's. Barbara has a few questions to ask from my husband! I have taken over two bedrooms with Clarity stamps and now groovi. Soon we will be eating, sleeping etc in one room. However isn't it fun to live the life of craft and construction. Certainly beats our day time jobs. Is it time to live the former?
happy weekend to all the bloggers and Clarity. Cannot wait to get away on the retreat.
    Much love
    Anne (Reading)

  19. Sorry bloggers should have read "answer" not ask. Why can I not blog in a sensible manner. Maybe just Fridaism – if that is a word!
    Anne

  20. I had a similar experience the other day in my shed. I may have to give up my tiny but crammed craft room, to make way for some adaptations that Samuel needs. First thought was the shed, but even after hours of tidying, cleaning and the obligatory spider removal, I had to admit defeat. Plan b – win the lottery and get an extension or a 10 x 8 outbuilding 🤣😂🤣😂🤣

  21. Hilarious – maybe you should try some altered art with that piece as that would make it truly unique. I wonder what didn't get a full coat of black paint when he was called away? Really getting excited about the workshop now. Just printed off our boarding passes Julia Evans! x

  22. Hello Barb, well done to you and Paul on the massive clean up operation. And Dave's paintbrush could seriously sell for a mint. Great laugh. Take care. Bx

  23. Surely in the beginning something must have been holding the brush upright while it dried in the paint?? Or that is very quick drying paint? So to be fair to Dave he must have put that object away and has therefore made SOME effort to tidy his half. As for your half, this year just say to Paul and yourself that you are not going to tidy it for at least a year! Takes the pressure off a bit . Xxx wish J was at the Retreats, have a good-un as we say airport Norf ! X
