Back to Basics – a little Quiz..

Back to Basics – a little Quiz..

Hi there.
Thanks for popping in.
Talk about hit the ground running!
It’s certainly been a whirlwind year thus far!
Sometimes I feel I have lost myself a little in the business of Clarity, the day to day holding on to the reins of the company and steering it in the right direction.
So today, I thought I would take it right back to basics.
Keep it simple.
Make a card using old techniques which I used for many years, in fact, which this little empire of ours is built on!
We are always forging ahead, developing new ideas.
But from time to time we should stop and look over our shoulders,
It helped me immensely this afternoon,
doing something old and comfortable,
re-establishing my skillset.
In fact, let’s have a little quiz.
See how many questions you can answer.
I know for sure that many of you have been treading this road to happy destiny with me for many years…
Stamp the stamps from the brilliant Tree Rows set
and the girl and lab from the Wee Folk onto A6 Claritycard.
1.
Which ink pad should I use?
If I want to use Dye-based inks and Distress markers to colour in, which ink pad should I being using?
2.
If I wanted to colour in with alcohol inks, or Promarkers,
or Copics or any of those pens, which ink pad should I use?

Use the blending mat to spread some Artistry Mellow Green ink onto the brayer, and transfer to the lower part of the card.
Use a piece of copy paper to block off the sky.

Tear across the copy paper to get hills.
Go over the green ink with a darker blue ink.
Blue Chase is a great colour.
3.
What do you think would happen if I spritzed water at this coated card at this stage? Would the black ink bleed?
4.
Would the card blister?

Add a moon mask.
Load the brayer with Blue Chase ink and start rolling in the sky.

5.
What have I done in the next step?

Use the ink on the blending mat to paint the trees,
using a paintbrush.
6.
Which size paintbrush would you recommend?
7.
Would you add water to the ink?

Fill in the tiny areas of the trees using Distress Markers.

8.
What can I do with this card to get rid of the blotchy inkwork?

Drag a Sharpie pen around all four sides of the card.

9.
How have I made the background paper?

10.
What’s the name of the dog?
Ha ha. Once a teacher, always a teacher.
So there we have it.
A very simple step by step and 10 questions regarding the process.
Please email me the answers, 1 to 10.
barbaragray123@hotmail.com
Loads of you are bound to know the answers,
so I will pick a random champion from the winners
to receive a £20 Clarity gift voucher.
You’ve got until Saturday lunchtime to send me your reply.
P.S. The dog is a girl! And the girl’s name is Lynne.
But the dog’s name isn’t Lynne.
Love & Hugs,
Barb

  1. I love it when you go back to stamping – I could watch you do this all day long! Love the colours and the background paper too. In fact you have inspired me to have a go at reproducing this. Xxc

  2. Fantastic artwork Barbara. It's great to get back to basics sometimes.. It's like putting on a comfy pair of slippers.
I enjoyed the questions too…made me think about what I was seeing.
Enjoy your evening. Love and hugs xxx

  3. Lovely art work. I am sorry my brain is brainwashed with the circus of the MOJ today. Been a really, really difficult day. I will just look at the trees and dream about walking the dog, listening to the invisible birds and look at nature's colours.
Love to all – TGIF tomorrow
Anne (Reading) – once a teacher also – pity I gave it up for my present job.

  4. From another teacher, who cannot stop. I have sent my email. It was fun trying to second guess you on a couple of the questions. Just what I needed to refocus after the second funeral this week. I think it is good for us all to revisit earlier techniques and equipment. Apart from that, there must be many people who have not seen them before. So, I,for one, am happy to go back to basics every so often. Hope things are warmer down your way than up here. xxx Maggie

  5. Hi Barbara, aaah, it's like a comfort blanket for me too. Calms my head when watching you demo this type of art, so much so that if it's your 9am show, I cuddle in in bed, and drift back to sleep with a smile on my face and a warm feeling inside! Just as well I record all your shows eh!!! Beautiful artwork, and love the colours you've chosen. Thank you for sharing. Was your washing machine head on full spin again?! I'll have a go at your quiz tomorrow. Bet one of you gratitudes today is tomorrow is Friday!!! Love Brenda xx

  6. Hi Barbara
Not long been home after flying back from Newcastle so I'm rather tired. Funny how little answers kept popping in my head but I'm starting to doubt myself so I will start with a clear head in the morning. The artwork is beautiful and typical Grey, what a lovely idea, stop, look back, reassess, move on. Hope you can manage to sleep tonight.
    Love Diane xxx

    1. Hello lovely blog friends hope all is well and the weather is starting to get warmer again for you. Gas a lovely few days away with some crafting friends, lots of laughter and chatter. Called in to see the lovely Maureen who sometimes comments on here who was unable to join us following a bad fall I'm pleased to say she's looking good and sense of humour still intact. Sending hugs all round xxx

  7. This is beautiful, and a quiz too! I will have a think and email after work. Love this style and makes me want to get my brayer out again. Have a good weekend. Xx

  8. I'm a parchment crafter more than a stamper but you make me want to know and do more! Lovely piece of work with all my favourite colours 🙂
