Time for a Limerick Competition! Big prize!

Time for a Limerick Competition! Big prize!

Ho ho ho!
Thanks for dropping in!
Friday’s blog a private peek, right?
Well, here’s what I would call a super day off….
After yesterday’s bumper to bumper traffic fiasco
up to Coventry and back,
(which incidentally, was worth every single minute)
I decided to get up at the crack of sparrows,
beat the traffic and get over to my parents’ place in Gillingham before the M25 woke up.
Brilliant plan; shot over to the Medway towns in no time.
Only spanner in the works was that my parents
were still fast asleep when I landed there!
So ended up sitting in the car for an hour
before the lights went on in the kitchen!
Much better than being trapped in traffic though.
After breakfast and a catch-up, went shopping with Mum,
to a very nice farm shop in Faversham called Macknades,
where you can spend a fortune on fine food, and
where we bumped into my lovely friend and old art teacher,
Jenny Day.
Then we managed to avoid the crowds in a local
and very well-established garden centre down in Hempstead.
It is all a bit hectic before Christmas, isn’t it?
But there the staff were so friendly and helpful,
it was a pleasure to part with my money!
Actually, it was just great to spend a few hours
with Mum and Dad.
Nothing extravagant, no tearing around.
Just a cuppa and a heart to heart.
Grateful to be able to.
Headed back early to beat the Friday evening madness,
and got away with it!
Even had a little siesta, a schnooze.
And look what Dave came home with!
A Christmas Shooting Star for the kitchen!
That’s it.
Christmas is officially round the corner when Dave drills a hole in the wall and mounts a shooting star, so to speak!
I think it’s time we had some limerick fun….
There once was a farmer called Dave
who one night had a very close shave….
Copy and paste my first two lines below
and then finish the limerick!
Then on Sunday, we will get out the laughometer
and pick a winner to receive no less than….
drum roll…..
a £50 Clarity gift voucher!
So come on!
Get out the port, have a quick snort
the ball’s in your court!
Love & Hugs,
Barb

  1. That's what I call a grand way to spend a Friday!
I finished off some secret stuff and then got the black gesso and 3D glue gel out to create a gift for Amy's boyfriend…. Well it's instead of a card…I hope he likes it!
I'll look forward to seeing all the limericks.
    Love and hugs xxxx

    1. There once was a farmer called Dave
who one night had a very close shave.
      So he decided to chill
      Grew a beard to thrill,
And took Barbara to a rave!

      How's that? Haha! Xxx

  2. How lovely to spend a day with special people at such great venues, I love the farm shops in this area! My Nan and Grandad used to go hop picking at Macknade many years ago staying in tin huts for the 6 week season xx

  3. Hi Barbara, sounds like another day of precious quality time and special memories being made with the people you care about and love. Makes me smile to read it. I decided Christmas needed to start today too. Rather sparse though, as I discovered Daisy eats Christmas!!! So most of what little I have, had to go back in the box, and a bit of ingenuity with what I was left with!!!

As you know no can do limericks, but good luck to everyone who can. Hope you have a lovely weekend. Love Brenda xx

    Love your shooting star Dave.

  4. A lovely, relaxed way to spend the day. I love mooching around nice garden centres but as you say they are a bit hectic this time of year. Love Dave's shooting star! xx

  10. I think my part today and tomorrow is to read and enjoy everyone else's limericks. Poetry has never been my strong point. Glad you had such a good visit with the lovely Jayne yesterday. She is such a talented lady and I have several of her stamp sets from when I started card making, which were a lot of fun to use. These new sets are just incredibly beautiful and a pleasure to create scenes with. Have a good weekend, hopefully with a bit of R&R, which you all deserve at Clarity. Love Maggie xxx

    He tried milking the bull,
Cause he'd had a skin full
And almost landed up in his grave!

  19. Can't resist a challenge:-
There once was a farmer called Dave
Who, one night, had a very close shave.

To mount the star – god-willing
He would miss the main architrave!

    The other ideas were too far out of it! ;~}

  20. Hello Barb,
Family time is the best. Just had a wonderful evening seeing my youngest Granddaughter in the school play (The Lion King since you ask!!!) and then went to a local Restaurant for a "wrap" party!!! Can't beat being with loved ones. Men weren't allowed so they went home after the play.
    Now for the limerick:
There once was a farmer called Dave
Who one night had a very close shave.
He tried oh he tried to mount a star
But the silly billy didn't get very far
And as he fell he gave us a wave!

Sorry, it's the best I can do!

  21. There once was a farmer called Dave

    His wife came home early
    And caught him with Shirley
And told him "Now Dave you behave"
    or
There once was a farmer called Dave
Who one night had a very close shave
    He lept in the water
    To save his poor daughter
And his wife said "OH Dave, you're so brave!"

  25. Well ones got to join in on this ….
There once was a young farmer called Dave
Who one night had a very close shave
As Barb poured him a sherry
Come on Dave let us be merry
He then chased her upstairs to misbehave.
No that's not what I meant
    Go outside in your tent
And come back when my money is spent.

Terrible never mind, love Yvonne x

  26. Back again – just thought of another one before I go to bed.

There once was a farmer called Dave

  27. There once was a farmer called Dave

But Barb said dream away Dave!

  28. Hello Barb, love the shooting star, well done Dave, glad you had a great time with Mum and Dad and managed to avoid the traffic. Here is my attempt at the limerick.
There once was a farmer called Dave
who one night had a very close shave
He went out to fetch dinner,
    Returned a bit slimmer,
Oh how he wishes that old sheep shearer
    would learn to behave!

Good luck everyone, have a great day. Bx

  29. I hope you really enjoyed the hour to yourself whilst you were waiting for the kitchen light to come on! So happy that you had a lovely time with your parents yesterday – I had time with my sister and now all the presents are wrapped and under the tree.

There once was a farmer called Dave
who one night had a very close shave
    He drilled a great hole
    So erected a pole
    For dancing, goodness gracious, Behave!

Hope everyone has a great weekend x

  30. There once was a farmer called Dave
who one night had a very close shave.
    He mounted her a star
    which was not to far.
Above the kitchen door Dave paved.

Barb was so excited and danced
around the table she sang and pranced.
She hasn´t seen the baking tray
and all the cookies flew away.
The smell of christmas all over enhanced.

This is "german" english so I think it´s not perfect but I hope it´s understandable;-))

Hope everyone has a wonderful third advent.

  31. There once was a farmer called Dave
who one night had a very close shave….
He jumped around and around until his wife said to behave.
    "
She wants wool to socks that is always home made,
I have to ask you Dave,
go to the sheep and shave
the wool I need to a sweather to make.

He went to the sheep and it gave
    its permission to shave.
    The farmer that called Dave,
looked at his tool to shave,
it was a very tiny one and can only be used to a close shave,
the foam just been used for colouring a canvas B.Gray just made.

"Oh Boy" he thought, what is he going to do other than shave.
It took him hours and hours and when he went home, he with the wool from Maine,
that was what the sheep was named, he was coloured all over, even in his brain.
Oh yes he was the one that made
his wife to a wonderful maid.

So there is the farmer called Dave,
I believe he never again will make a close shave.
    "

  32. There once was a farmer called Dave,
who one night had a very close shave,
    Barb was feeling quite smooth,
She said "Let's get in the groove!"
But Dave just told her "Behave!"

I hope that's not too cheeky… Looks like other folks have been cheekier thought so I think I'm alright! Even my mum has gone for a naughty one, tut tut. I'll be having words! 😀

Now, on the Christmassy theme ……

Who one night had a very close shave
    While erecting the tree
    He fell, twisting his knee
The erection he just could not save.

  34. There once was a farmer called Dave
Who one night had a very close shave
    He got out his drill
    To give Barb a thrill
Woke up when She said"You're my fav!"
( as Poldark's no more on airwave! )
Thank you Barb for last weekend's wonderful programmes just like " In the Classroom " all those years ago which I really enjoyed.

  35. Hi Barbara
What a good idea to beat the traffic, bet your mum was surprised to find you sitting on the door step in the early morning. Sounds like a great day out. Right let's see what I can come up with for a limeric, they've all been so funny, I've had a good chuckle!

There once was a farmer called Dave

  37. Bit tardy but here we go
There once was a farmer called Dave
Who one night had a very close shave
    Whilst shearing his sheep
    He fell fast asleep.
    Barbara gave him a poke
    And he promptly awoke.
    "Now back to your machine
    Please make sure its clean

    Your sheep shipped to OZ
I need you here, because –
    You need to behave
I love you dear Dave." Anne (Reading)xx
