Happy Anniversary !!!

Happy Anniversary !!!

Hi there,
Thanks for popping in.

Tuesday’s blog is usually inky, isn’t it?
Well we did look at a fab colour blend yesterday, with Oh Joy!
So you can always scroll back if you need an inky fix.

Instead today, I want to blog a special card for a special occasion.
27th September is a big day in our home;
it’s my parents’ wedding anniversary!

Mum loves fuchsias too….

So Jayne’s fuchsias are just perfect….

58 years ago today,
they got married in a little church in the north of Germany,
in a little village called Sande.

Yesterday, Mum was talking about their Polterabend.
(pronounced pollta-arbend)
This is when your neighbours and friends come to your home the evening before the wedding day,
and smash a load of crockery in the front!
The happy couple then have to sweep all the mess up together,
and a party ensues!
I have been to a few Polterabende over the years,
and they are such fun!!

I guess instead of having the girls go off for a hen do
and the boys go out on a stag,
in Germany they stick together.
As they mean to continue, I suppose.

Anyway, that’s the German way.

So this is the little card I made to celebrate the occasion….

GROOVI BABY!!!!

Now I must get going!
We are taking Mum and Dad out for a posh meal tonight,
and time is ticking on….

Love & hugs
Barb
xx

  1. Happy Anniversary to your Mum & Dad ! Have a lovely evening! I thought it was only the Greeks who smashed plates ! I imagine it's quite therapeutic! I'm going Clarity shopping and those plates and stamps are going to fall in my basket I fear ! Xx

  2. Happy anniversary to your Mum and Dad….58 years, what a wonderful achievement, many congratulations! Have a lovely evening together, I enjoyed 42 happy years with my late hubby and have beautiful memories xxxx

  3. Happy Anniversary Barbara's Mum and Dad , hope you have a wonderful celebration meal tonight. Love the card. I'm saving up to get Jaynes Groovi plate designs 👍 X

  4. What a beautiful card Barbara. Must have truly brightened up your mum and dad's day even more. The pre wedding thingy sounds a bit violent! Maybe it was the women who invented it, trying to make sure their other half to be was clear about the housework being shared!!!! So where is your mum and dad going for their special present that they need passports for? Hope you all have a very special evening, making many good memories to cherish forever. And I hope Dave isbeing forgiven enough to be allowed to join you all!!! Love Brenda xx

Happy anniversary Barbara's mum and dad xx

    1. Thanks Alison, not managing much just now, not been that well, but did a wee bit Groovi colouring in today so at least it's better than nothing. Still not watched Poldark yet! On the boiler front, so far so good, but I'm still reluctant to turn the heating on so it's only been on a couple of evenings for just one cycle. It does sound better though, if you can understand that. And the gas coming out the hob seems to have increased pressure too since they were here, and so far nothing has happened when I've run hot water. Thanks for remembering. Hope you're having a happy evening with your friends xx

    2. Hi Brenda – glad to hear that you have been able to do some Groovi colouring in today. I still haven't watched Poldark yet either. Glad to hear that the boiler behaved with the hot water. Love and hugs to you and Daisy, Gilly xx

    3. My dear blog friend thank you so much for your messages on yesterday's blog I'm in bed been nodding of to sleep waiting for dr to ring but didn't hear anything but he could be working in the background Toms going to ring on Thursday morning at 8am to book a on the day appointment then can talk face to face I ent to bed at 6pm slept till 7.30pm still in bed going to do a little reading as only got a chapter and half to finish this book then start another maybe.
Just read above that your not well yourself but you have mannaged to groovi which is good ,I'm going to try a little task each day no matter how small baby steps I got a groovi card made over a few days and got it posted yesterday one using my new jayne nestarenko plates they are stunning pleased your boiler is starting to behave . Would your garden friend be able to try your heating when he is there then it won't be so daunting for you sending goodnight hugs to you and daisy xxx

    4. Hello Brenda sorry to hear you aren't feeling too good, keep yourself warm and have lots of fluids. Sounds like you enjoyed the groovi colouring though. Sending hugs to you and Daisy xxx

    5. Hello Brenda. I hope tomorrow will be a better day for you. Your boiler definitely sounds a lot healthier that it was, so I'm sure you will be able to safely use it. Love and Hugs xxx

    6. Thanks everyone xx
Och, it's ok, I think it's just CFS fluey, rather than a bug on top, not surprising after all the stresses and physical/practical onslaught of the last few weeks. I've got a couple of weeks until it's garden visit day.

Nae bother Sheila, if anything I've learned/worked out, helps you even a wee bit, then that makes me feel better too. Take a written list of all your questions with you and make sure you get answers to each one, ticking them off as you go. Glad you got your card finished. Do you want to know something Sheila, I think that's amazing, the pain your fingers and wrists must be in, and the pressure needed for Groovi, and holding parchment etc down, knowing how much acute pain it is going to cause you. You should be very pleased with yourself. Despite those day's challenges, you achieved that, did it for yourself, you won Sheila. You keep at it, it does get easier in your head to do the more you do it, think of me trying to do my chore and bit of craft with you if it helps give you the strength. I've still not decided what Groovi and stamps of Jayne's I'm going to get, just as well Barbara never sells out of anything eh!!!! Hope you get a good sleep and feel a wee bit brighter tomorrow.

Aye Diane cosy winter jammies to keep me warm from the outside, and cammomile tea in my mindfulness cup to warm me from the inside!! Bet Emma is into her winter clothes too, has she got any more used to the cold, and wind, up here yet?!!!

It was just simple colouring in so yes, nae shading to stress over!!!

Aye, I just need to get brave and switch the boiler on properly, don't worry, being too cold will make me sooner or later!!!

    7. Thank you Brenda when I craft I will think of you doing yours the groovi frame is amazing so pop that one on your wish list I personally don't think you will go wrong with any of the plates as they are all stunning enjoy choosing now I really must go to sleep just couldn't resist popping back in here goodnight hugs xxx

  5. Hi everyone, well some positives today, the phone is mended, new doorbell needs putting up, my pink washing is being rewashed with the stuff that's supposed to turn it back to white again (not holding out much hope there!). Now hubby needs to get my car mended and we might be back on track. All silly little things that are not important just irritating. I have everything to be thankful for really. Now I'm going to the Clarity website and I might not be back for some time….

Hope everyone has had a decent day. My next aim is to lose some weigh and am thinking of going back to Slimming World on Thursday to get me back on track. Need to lose a stone to go on the cruise we've booked for November ! Xx

    1. When we were first married I washed my hubby's painters whites with something red which had got left behind from the previous wash. No colour catcher in those days but a lot of ribbing from his workmates xx

    2. Hi Jackie,
I hate it when whites turn pink or grey! The vanish gold is quite good. My aim is to lose weight too- probably 10 stone would do! Actually when I can do my exercise, I lose weight quickly but at the moment my knee is giving me a lot of trouble so golf is out of the question and even gentle walk g makes it really stiff. I'm going to try swimming and see if that works but as I only like doing breaststroke that could be a problem for my false knee! Can't win!! Love and hugs Alison xxx

    3. Hi Jackie – pleased to hear that so many of the things have been sorted. I am another one who would love to lose some weight – but I can't do much exercise at the moment either. At least you have got the cruise to spur you on towards losing the weight. Love and hugs, Gilly xx

    4. Hi Jackie pleased you have got some things sorted enjoy spending your voucher I have put on weight with the steroids and not been Mobile don't like it but no choice . Glad you have got a lovley cruise to look forward too you deserve it hugs xxx

    1. Hi Sheila, Busy at mum-in-law's Christmas cards tonight – only insert to do now. Thank goodness for a printer. Next task, my mum's carers gifts. Have the materials but not quite sure of design as yet. Hope you manage to sleep well tonight after your tiring day. ;~}

  6. Like the idea of the Polterabend, sounds like a good way of encouraging the male of the species to get used to some housework. Needs to be shared these days. Lovely to hear about the traditions that you grew up with. Happy Anniversary to your mum and dad, 58 years quite an achievement, enjoy your meal. xx

  7. Hi Barb,
Beautiful card, such lovely colours and a beautiful plate from Jayne. Congratulations to your Mum and Dad – wow 58 years, that's brilliant! Have a really lovely evening and spoil them rotten! Love and hugs Alison xxx

    1. Hi bloggy friends,
Hope today has been as good as possible for you. Been a housework and washing day for me, trying to get everything sorted for next week's trip up to Isle of Mull. Keep telling Dave to stop wearing his walking trousers etc but does he listen ?! Off out for a meal with my sister and a friend we used to play netball with, so that will be nice. Have a lovely evening everyone, love and hugs Alison xxx

    2. Hi Alison I had a try with my two inks I got on Saturday – lovely – I just have to wait till I get my order for the others (shhh). Drew out a poinsettia this afternoon. We houseworked like mad yesterday as were having friends to stay tomorrow but I am going down with a cold/cough thing so they've cancelled as they're off to the USA next Wednesday. Hope you enjoyed your meal xx

    3. Hi Alison happy washing! My husband is just as bad – I have a cut off day before we go away, if it's not washed by then it doesn't go on holiday! Enjoy Mull, it's really beautiful, we had a great coach driver when we were there this summer, he had a brilliant sense of humour, told us all about the Mull eagles! Xxx

  8. Happy anniversary to your mum and dad Barbara hope they have many more happy years together it's our daughter Hannah's and lees wedding anniversary to they have got a lot of years to catch up with your parents have a wonderful meal with them tonight hugs Joy and Katie xx

  9. Such a beautiful card for such a fantastic occasion. I hope you have a fabulous meal out tonight and that both your mum and dad thoroughly enjoy themselves. Fushcias are one of my most favourite flowers too. xxx

    1. I am pleased you're in a good place Julia. One thing I can say to you my friend…second time round is best, and Brad Pitt seems like a canny choice. xxx

  10. How lovely! Only two years to the Diamond Wedding…that is something worth celebrating in a special way. I love your card and the Groovi parchment fuchsias look so pretty over that beautifully coloured background. The plate smashing eve of wedding celebration reminds me of the way Greek occasions include a similar thing. Have a wonderful evening. x

  11. What a lovely way to celebrate, congratulations to your mum and dad and hoping they've had a lovely anniversary filled with happy memories of the past, some new ones to remember and look forward to the future ones still to be made.

My mam and dad made it to their Diamond Anniversary when we had a big family celebration and got them their card from the Queen – happy days. I spent hours making the invitations, menus, baked and decorated their cake (diamond shaped of course!) but the longest task of all was the napkins – could find nothing suitable in the shops (even JL let me down!) so I bought some really thick, quality paper napkins and armed with a few bottles of Stickles touched every dimple/spot embossed around each edge of every napkin – the effect was stunning.

Been for my 'flu jab this afternoon (as carer for mam and my OH) so we went out for tea – yipee – no washing up and the food was yummy! xxx

  12. Have a lovely evening with your family… happy anniversary to your mum and dad .great card ..love these in groovi and stamps have just ordered the whole stamp set as couldn't decide which I preferred ..

  13. Oh, have a fantastic time Barb & Dave and a very happy anniversary to your mum and dad! 58 years! That's amazing, well done to them. How wonderful to have all that 'loving' time together.

  26. Well done to your parents Barbara, a fantastic innings. I wish them many more happy years together. I would have been married 49 years this October but sadly it was not to be. Love the card, I have just used the fuchsias on my sister's birthday card. I hope you had a very enjoyable evening and a good meal. xx

  27. Hi Barb! Congratulations to your Mum and Dad – and what a coincidence as well. I bet they both know Wilhelmshaven, which is just next to Sande as I recall. I went to a UK Forces boarding school in WH many years ago and absolutely loved the area! Bally cold though – that wind whips in from the sea!

    Di xx

  28. Happy Anniversary to your Mum and Dad! I hope the evening is lovely for all of you! The card you made them is beautiful. I love the sound of the Polterebend, it sounds perfect! I have been married three times (this one is for keeps, my hubby is my soulmate and best friend too) and none of my marriages had hen/stag nights! xxx

  29. Happy Anniversary to your Mum and Dad. Hope they had a great day!
I love Polterabende but sadly more and more people who are getting married now have hen and stag nights instead of a Polterabend. XX

  30. Happy Anniversary to your Mum and Dad. Hope they had a great day!

  32. Guten Morgen Barbara,
    Sabine:-)

  33. Good Morning Barbara, I must get better organised. I so love to read all of the comments and try to think of a suitable one, it gets later and later and then I am to tired to leave anything worthwhile or that hasn't been said before. It's not that I'm not thinking of you and your lovely family and company. Many congratulations to your mum and dad. Fifty Eight years is certainly an amazing achievement. Hope your posh meal was a success.

  34. Morning Barb

Belated congratulations to your parents. I'm sure you all had a fabulous night and enjoyed your meal. I enjoyed reading about the polterabend tradition

The anniversary card you made for them is beautiful

    June x
