A Private Peek into my glass half full….

A Private Peek into my glass half full….

Hi there.
How are you? Thanks for dropping in!
We’ve had a lovely day today, thank you.
It was a real treat to welcome friends old and new
to the 3rd double-day retreat of the week.

Finally, the toothache is subsiding, so the old Gray mare is back!

I want to share something with you….

Have I ever told you that I don’t drink alcohol at all?
Not a drop. Haven’t had a drink for at least 15 years, in fact.

I made a conscious decision way back then to try to avoid ANY mind altering substances.

So I don’t drink, don’t take recreational drugs, don’t smoke,
And I like it that way.

What others do is up to them;
as long as it doesn’t cause drama in MY life,
they can do whatever they like!
So please don’t think for a moment that I am playing
the clean-living, holier than Thou card!
Not at all !

The problem is that after all these years of clean living,
when I do take drugs, even tame stuff like regular doses of Ibuprofen or Paracetamol or any other pain killer or pain modifier,
they knock me for six.

After a week of popping pills like smarties every 4 hours,
trying to keep the jaw ache down, I can tell you, I wasn’t myself.
M I S E R A B L E.
But it wasn’t toothache miserable; it really wasn’t.
You know when you’re on the turn.
And I was on the turn!

So yesterday I knocked the packet pills on the head,
and went for the homeopathic oil of cloves old-school remedy.

Guess what.
Today, I felt like my normal happy self again.
Toothache? Numb from Oil of Clove, so don’t know.

Why am I telling you all this?
Well, firstly you may have toothache/dry socket one day,
and I am recommending Oil of clove.

Secondly, you may just be thinking about the latest news which hit the headlines today regarding alcohol consumption being a direct cause of several cancer types.
If you DO drink a lot, and you know you do.
If you worry about it and have thought about stopping,
then all I can do is share with you
that the benefits of a clean and sober life are phenomenal.
Oh. And you’re not alone.

The proof is in the pudding.

Must go.
Have an evening to enjoy!

Love & Peace,

Barb

  1. Nice blog and very true words. I have never smoked although mum and dad did. Taken recreational drugs but use to drink a lot. But have not touched a drop in 14 years. Do I miss it … Only in times of stress but that is not the answer. Well not for me – to take a drink.

My drug of choice is to craft or garden, use my hands and be in the moment.

3lbs blackcurrants picked and processed today.

    God bless x

    1. Hello Pen. 3lbs of blackcurrants..that's a lot of picking. I love making jams and pickles and probably like you I've never bought any for years. it's a lovely feeling when the jars are all full. Hugs xxx

    2. Hi Pen, seems to be a good year for black currants my one bush is loaded and the blackbird keeps looking at me as he helps himself! My job for the weekend is getting them picked! Xxx

  2. Very interesting read, I very rarely drink alcohol now after donating a kidney to my son in 2007. I used to enjoy a glass of wine at the weekend but don't even have that now. I hope you have a wonderful relaxing weekend 🙂
    Hugs

    1. Had to reply. Lovely comment and made my day to see "MAM" my boy calls me mam (North-East mother)
      Have a lovely week-end

  3. Hi Barbara. I do drink the odd glass or two but now limit it to special occasions and Saturday evenings! I used to drink wine nearly every night but have definitely cut down!
However I have stopped smoking which I used to do but i feel so much better now I have given up!!! Actually can't remember how long it is!!
All I need to do now is lose weight and I've cracked it!!!
I don't like taking drugs for anything and will try other things before I'll take anything…. Lavender oil rubbed on the temples is good for a headache! I'll also try half a teaspoon of sugar in my tea…. That usually works!!! Anyway good advice from you that people can choose to take or not!!
    Love and hugs! Xxx

  5. I totally agree about drugs, paracetamol etc. I feel so much better without them. Never smoked or had recreational drugs, and very rarely drink alcohol, once in a flood. I value my driving licence too much anyway. I have never needed alcohol to enjoy myself. I do have a cheap bottle of vodka in the kitchen butthat goes in my spritzer – it dries faster. Hope all went well at the Retreat today. xxxx Maggie

    1. I loved this week but I do desperately need to get back to my healthy juicing. I need to find a way to do it while I am away, as I do find I do not feel as well when I am off the diet. I try to eat only foods that do not need labelling and have not been "messed around" by human hand. There are so many natural remedies out there that we forget and that do less damage to us than all the drugs that are so costly and need others to counteract the side effects. xxx Maggie

  6. I too can recommend oil of clove. Earlier this year I had a similar problem to you Barbara with my jaw aching more after the extraction than before but my dentist put a dressing doused in oil of clove in the hole. Certainly did the trick even if the taste was slightly unpleasant!!! Hope you have now turned the corner in the pain stakes & can enjoy a relaxing weekend after your busy week

  7. So glad you are feeling better. I do like a glass or two of wine but we go alcohol free 2-3 nights a week. I didn't drink for 18 months when I was on pain medication. We try to eat healthily and exercise too.
I am beginning to be in need of a new hip. The GP gave me – wait for it – Naproxen. I took them for two weeks and it was bliss to be pain free but I did feel a bit spaced out and stopped taking them as I didn't feel happy. I think you have to weigh up the pros and cons with any medication, my hubby wouldn't be here without blood pressure tablets.
Hope your weekend goes well xx

    1. Hello blog pals I hope you are all well. The internet has been a real pain late in the evening so am getting in early.
I know at least one bloggy lady who will be looking forward to her free time over the next few weeks! It always seems long at the start but goes like a flash.
I hope you have all had a good day xx

    2. Evening Chris – we have had internet problems too, and have put it down to the weather! Then we saw on tv that BT and Plus Net have been affected recently – we are on Plus Net, so can't blame it on the weather after all. Hugs Gilly xx

    3. Hi Chris,
Hope you have had a good day. I am lucky ( I think!) in that I can take Naproxen. I have to take it because my second knee is almost ready for replacement and my hip is also giving me trouble. Originally with the knee I had replaced, I was on Diclofenac but Dr took me off that. I do try not to take it every day though, only when I really need to. Love and hugs Alison xx

  8. Hi Barbara, glad to hear you are your normal self that is good to hear.
Well like most do not drink or smoke, after a bad experience when leaving my ex I drank quite a lot now do not drink and feel wonderful for it. Sometimes when in company people say go on have a drink, would not touch it they can do as they want but I know by morning they will wished they had not touched the drink
, but I will feel great.
Each to their own, but I know I am ok and that is ok.
Have a great weekend and try to relax. Kind regards Lynn xx

  9. So pleased your feeling better and coping with less pain
I don't drink have never smoked but I do have to take percription pain medication as if I didn't I don't think I would be here as pain is too much to bear each day .my crafting keeps me going but without the pain medication I wouldn't be able to craft . Xxx

    1. Evening dear family of blog friends sending lots of hugs to everyone who needs one and hugs to all on the blog .ive mannaged to craft this afternoon I put together a groovi card that I've been making over the weeks and did a little stamping so another goal reached today .xxx
Sending a extra wee hug to you Dorothy xxx

    2. Hi Sheila you have had a good day, I'm pleased about that. Yes some medication is essential, I have asthma medication and my husband has epilepsy medication so both essential but other than that we try alternative things if we can. Sending hugs xxx

    3. Evening Sheila – so pleased to hear that you have been able to do some crafting today. It will have made you feel really good, I am sure. Lots of love and hugs Gilly xxx

    4. Hi Sheila,
Well done on getting your card put together.. Really glad that you are obviously in much less pain – so happy for you, love and hugs Alison xx

  10. Glad you're feeling better Barbara. I stopped drinking 7 years ago, when I went on anti depressants. My mind was going through enough, I decided not to add alcohol into the mix! I haven't gone back – I realised that I didn't miss it, I didn't really enjoy it and I had been drinking for bad reasons – not a that it was a lot, but doing it to feel like someone else on a night out isn't good in my book. I have to admit, while I know everyone gets to make their own choice, it does sadden me when I see people that I think (but what do I know?) are doing the same thing.

Pregnancy and breast feeding have meant I have had very few meds for a couple of years, mostly good but the odd bad cold when little one has it too and I'm up all night has had me yearning for the good stuff to knock it on the head! Selectivity has to be the way, and choosing your priorities!

Hope you and your third group have a good day tomorrow!!

  11. I totally agree Barbara. I've never smoked, never tried recreational drugs, and didn't like alcohol on the rare occasion I tasted it when much younger. You don't need it, no one does, there are far better ways, ones that don't result in you losing parts of your life from not remembering, or going through life in a haze. We've got to grab life with both hands, no matter what hand you're dealt. And I'm saying this as someone who has been dealt a pretty bad one my whole life.

As for prescription drugs, with having Asperger's I am super sensitive to them, and often had weird reactions to them, or they did the opposite to what they were meant to. At one point I was pretty much blackmailed into taking medication (help withdrawn if I didn't!). I hated it, and all the mess it made of me, my body and in my head. After a good number of months I fought back and refused to take any more even though I was told if I got any worse all help would be withdrawn. And guess what, the reasons/increasing symptoms I was being talked into taking them for disappeared! Since then I point blank refused to take any medication at all. Just the very occasional single paracetamol. My wee box of paracetamol always goes out of date often with none used from it. Obviously there are health conditions that do require medication, so far I've been fortunate enough to not have any.

We are blessed with being born, there must be some reason for the badness/bad lives people have to go through. Might be now, might be to come, but there must be a reason. Fight these hard times/challenges head on, don't run/hide from them. Life's lessons. AND, YOU'LL HAVE LIVED…

Glad you're feeling back to your normal self Barbara, hope you enjoy tomorrow and your day of on Sunday. Love Brenda xx

    1. We certainly are blessed to be here Brenda. I believe totally that everything happens for a reason, and that we should make the most of every moment. Love and Hugs xxx

    2. Brenda, you are a truly special lady and continue to be an inspiration to us all! We learn so much from you, and I am sure that I can speak for many of us here, in saying that one of your reasons for being here on earth, is to help so many of us. Thank you so much – love Gilly xxx
P.S. When I was first diagnosed with CFS, the doctor told me that I should take Prozac (the sunshine drug!) and when I refused, he told me that he would not see me again. I have never regretted my decision on that.

    3. Dear Brenda sending hugs for you and daisy as you say I agree we must meet our challenges as that is our lives on this blog I know now that each one of us have our daily challenges and we are not on our own xxx

    4. Thank you everyone, for all your lovely replies to me. Who's paying you all to keep saying such special things to/about me?!!! xx
Hope you really enjoy your holiday Donna, especially now you've not got the worry of Phoebe xx

  12. So glad you are on the mend, nothing worse than a sore mouth. Have never smoked drank or taken drugs , don't need them to be happy , received my first gold parcel yesterday that has made me very happy and am looking forward to receiving them every month , Thankyou Barbara for making crafting so enjoyable. x

  13. Barbara is out with her crystal ball again – looking down at me! I have had the day from hell at the MOJ – drug addicts absolutely off the planet, alcoholics staggering about at 9.30 and to top it all a dreadful animal trial and sentencing. I do hope I do'nt have nightmares.
On a positive note, eventually got home to be greeted by my design club goodies and my order. I was over the moon. What's more off to the Monday retreat and a week off work. Life is good. So looking forward to the retreat.
Thank you to Barbara, the Clarity team and love to you all. Have a lovely weekend.
    Anne (Reading)

    1. Once you get down to Barbara's Distraction Therapy class, you will relax and feel so much better. There is nothing like some concentrated Clarity treatment to wash away the problems of the world. Take care and enjoy yourself. xxx Maggie

    2. Hello Anne, enjoy your time at the retreat and your week off, you really deserve to have a good time with the year you gave had and your stresses at work. Sending you a big hug xxx

    3. Hello Anne. Enjoy every moment of your retreat. I'm sure time spent with Barbara and Co is just what you need at the moment. Sending you and your daughter love and Hugs xxx

    4. Hi Anne,
Really does sound as though you've had a dreadful day. At least you've got the fabulous retreat to look forward to and I'm sure you will love it. Have a good weekend, love and hugs Alison xx

  14. I totally agree with you Barbara. Having worked in Substance Misuse for the last 20 years of my Nursing Career, I have seen far too often the damage caused by drink and drugs. My hubby says that he could never become an alcoholic…..even if he wanted to. haha! After he had some really painful surgery and came home on a prescription of codeine..I had him weaned off them in a week! As you talked about the other day, distraction therapy is definitely the answer. It's so lovely to hear you back to your 'young' self. Hugs xxx

  15. Hello my lovely blog friends. I hope you've all had a good day. I mentioned above to Barbara how much I dislike the use of painkillers, but I totally understand that there are many conditions that make it imperative that they should be used. Everyone's needs are so very different.
Well this time next week we'll have our new baby Yorkie. I can't tell you how excited I am. I can hardly even concentrate on making cards!! Love and Hugs to you all xxx

    1. Evening Morag – how exciting to be getting your new baby next week! I don't think that very much card making will be taking place in your house for a little while! Regarding your comment about the Scottish type of house – I have never heard of it I'm afraid, and I have even forgotten the name – sorry!!! What am I like? No! Don't answer that! Love and hugs Gilly xxx

    2. Haha Gilly!! Very much like me by the sounds of it!!! It was a blackhouse I mentioned the other day, but no I've googled the Cob Houses and they're nothing the same. Apart from the 'eco' aspect! xxx

  16. I don't drink, odd glass at special events but that's only a tiny one that I rarely finish. My addiction is CRAFT!! I think everyone is different with medication, some people need it to cope with the pain, some people can manage without. Everyone is unique, I really think there should be better ways to help people deal with pain rather than just prescribing another drug. Holistic treatments are rarely discussed when a visit to the GP is required or if it is then you are told the NHS don't fund it. Natural remedies need to be investigated further. XX

  17. YAY!! I am free!! Oh I have sooooo many crafty projects lined up. This weekend though is going to be spent in the garden, on the patio, book in hand……..perfect! XX

    1. Hi Donna,
It's a fabulous feeling isn't it?! You enjoy every day of it, you deserve it. The thing that used to annoy me was walking past shops that had adverts in the window for " Back to School"! I used to feel like screaming " I've only just broken up, let me enjoy myself!!
      Love and hugs Alison xxx

    2. In my defence Donna up here in the Highlands the schools have already had 3 weeks of their holidays. However I must admit that the back to school stuff went out a couple of days after the term finished. What I'm doing next week is for the extra push before the kids go back in the middle of August. What is more depressing is seeing the winter boots coming in already!

  18. Hi Barbara
It's good to hear you are feeling more yourself today, the crafting is definately a good distraction. Never smoked, have to rake prescription medication for asthma and have done since I was a child and was rushed into hospital unable to breath ( very scary for my parents!!). I have the occasional glass of wine, get teased because I usually end up nodding off so I'm a real lightweight! When wine bottles had corks my husband used to tease me I would never become an alcoholic because I could never get the cork out of the bottle myself!! Hope you get the chance to rest over the weekend and enjoy a spot of sunshine in the garden. Take care
    Love Diane xxx

    1. Hello my lovely blog friends, hope everyone is ok. It's been another bright sunny day down south, pleasantly warm but not too hot. I haven't had a chance to craft today, shopping with my daughter instead which was lovely and then sitting in the garden chatting. Sending hugs all round xxx

    2. Hi Diane, sunny and hot here too, even though my weather app keeps telling me to take an umbrella and look out for rain. Glad you had fun with your daughter. XX

    3. Hi Diane – I know just what you mean about it being scary for your parents, when you couldn't breathe, during an asthma attack. I had to watch Neill once, as he also suffers from asthma (except when we are in Spain) – it was VERY scary! Glad to hear that you have had a good shopping and chatting day! Hugs Gilly xxx

  19. I don't and never have smoked or taken recreational drugs but I do have the occsional drink but can truthfully say that I have never been drunk, a little merry in my youth but that is all. I have always thought that everything in moderation is the maxim but when it comes to smoking and drugs I think abstination is definitely the rule. I would rather not take any medicines either but I do think sometimes there is no option but I do agree that very strong painkillers can make you feel worse rather than better especially as you say if your system is not used to them. So pleased the pain is subsiding Barbara. x

  20. Hi Alison and Dot, sending you both a hug. It seems ages since I managed to catch up with you both. I'm off to bed now. Late for me!!! Love and Hugs xxx

  21. Hi Barbara – I have not smoked or taken any recreational drugs and since getting CFS/ME 16 years ago, I haven't drunk any alcohol, apart from the occasional glass of half wine/half water, with a big meal. As Sheila and Brenda will know – when you suffer with CFS/ME, your body cannot tolerate so very many things and alcohol is one of them. Mind you, even before this time, I hardly drank any alcohol apart from a glass of wine with a meal. I got into craft about 10 years ago, as my way of coping – it certainly beats other things. However, I do have to take certain prescription drugs for different needs that I have. I hope that you get to enjoy some 'you and Dave time' on Sunday, hugs Gilly x

    1. Hi to all of my lovely blog friends – I collected my new glasses (2 pairs) today and I love them both. Neill likes one pair much more than the other and said that I look beautiful in them! Sounds like I shall have to stick to that pair then! Says she, currently wearing the other pair, as the lens are just a bit deeper and perfect for what I am doing at the moment!
I passed on your congratulations to Anna today and you won't believe it, when I say that I got an email from her this afternoon with a heading 'I am at breaking point'! She had just had a call from the school to say that Alfie (her 7 year old) had had a fall and had been rushed to A & E with a suspected broken arm. They are due to go on holiday on Sunday! Anyway, I later heard that Alf has fractured his wrist and has got a back slab half cast on. She arrived in A & E and Alf was given pain relief, x-rayed, plastered & she was given a fit to fly letter and back home in just under an hour. By a strange quirk of fate, she is the new health visitor for the dr's son – who treated Alf! What are the odds on that I wonder? Time for bed now, methinks! Love and hugs to you all, Gilly xxx

    2. Night gilly so good that Alfie is not as badly injured as first thought and can travel on holiday wow how fast is that to be treated hugs xxx

    3. Now that is a coincidence! Glad their holiday can go ahead. My daughter took one of her boys to the GP and it was someone she used to work with on Medical Admissions.

    4. Oh just what she needed not ! and what a coincidence. I hope he's not too sore and the holiday can go ahead – but he wont be able to go in any water?! What a shame. xxx

  22. Hello Barbara

Couldn't agree more. My lovely son-in-law buried his sister last Monday. She died on her 52nd birthday, an alcoholic, leaving her son (25) alone.

By the way, I really enjoyed today and looking forward to tomorrow, even tbe paint, lol.

    Love
    Roz.x

  23. Hi Barb,
Glad to hear that you haven't been in as much pain today, must be a relief for you. I have never smoked or taken recreational drugs. I have to admit that I used to drink but haven't for about 20 years now – I can't cope with hangovers any more. If I have a mouthful of alcohol now I get a hangover the next day!! I do need to take Naproxen for my knee, but unlike Dave I am ok with it. I do try to use my TENS machine somedays instead though.
I'm really sorry that I don't appear to have left a comment yesterday – it must be floating around in cyber space or something! Love and hugs Alison xxx

    1. Hi to all my lovely blog friends,
Hope you are all ok and have had a good day. Been much fresher her today which has been nice- I could actually breathe properly! Tried going for a bike ride but I was so knackered I gave up! Dave has now bought me a turbo trainer for my bike which will be brilliant to get my fitness up but also to help my knees hopefully. I'll let you all know how I get on once I pick it up next week sometime! Love and hugs to you all, Alison xxx

    2. Hi Alison – I am ok thanks! Our weather has been much fresher too, but it's been a strange day really and it kept trying to rain, but the forecast is for rain tonight! I look forward to hearing how you get on with your new bike turbo trainer – take it easy though! Love and hugs Gilly xxx

    3. I would be interested to know how you get on with it. I have hardly ridden my bike as it is hilly here and I am scared the chain will break or I'll get a puncture and be stranded. The gym bikes are much safer!!
I am saving mky Naoroxen f0r emergencies I didn't know you could just take it now and then xx

  24. Pleased to hear that your pain is now subsiding especially with the use of alternative therapies. I always try to look for a holistic self help remedy if possible – the powers of the internet! I developed asthma a few years ago and whilst I did try alternative ways to deal with it I had to resort to an inhaler which has helped me tremendously. When I worked in Jersey in my early 20's I smoked a lot, cigarettes were cheap and you could smoke at your desk. I gave up when I was 26 and when I look back I can't believe I smoked like that. I do drink but not a lot, in the past month I've probably not even had the equivalent of a bottle of wine. It does concern me that I have a few friends who must have a glass of wine with their dinner every night. There are other ways to relax – crafting, mindfulness, going out for a walk, listening to music.

  25. I had to knock alcohol on the head eight years ago when I converted to Islaam. I used to drink almost every day, mostly wine. Champagne whenever there was a chance and cocktails at parties etc. I can honestly say I've never felt better! During the course of about a year I dropped three dress sizes which was a very welcome surprise. The only thing I miss is a nice glass of good champagne from time to time or an ice cold Magners on a hot summer day but hey ho, it is what it is!

    1. I often wished I drank it so I could cut it out and loose weight ! I drank years ago when we went out etc. but one nowadays makes me want to nod off ! I'm usually dedicated driver ….. Good for you though Pat. xx

  26. Hi Barbara and all blog friends, glad to hear your toothache is starting to subside (or socket ache?!). I read that article too. Sadly this evening we had our worst fears confirmed that one of our friends has liver cancer and may have 2 years left if that. He has to see an oncologist about the next step so whether any treatment can prolong his life longer we don't know yet. Not a shock but, nevertheless, sad news to end the day on. Seems sad news all round what with the news about Munich today as well.

On a brighter note we're going with them to Windsor races on Monday evening and they're looking forward to it so that's good. I've just stopped mid flow and gone for a shower and for the first time in ages I wished I'd got some talc to put on – don't know why, I think it's because I'm getting straight into bed and usually have a shower earlier than this, but then I thought yet I do have some talc – in the craft room ! I now smell like a Johnson's baby! This has also made me smile as my mum's bathroom often looks like a snow storm has hit it – one of the reasons I stopped using talc years ago ! Ok, please don't remind me of the cancer link and Johnson's because I'm ignoring that !

Hope everyone's had a decent day, just read about Maggie's journey home on FB (I haven't read the posts here yet!) and the motorway car park, what a pain. I'm sure everyone who went had a lovely time at the retreat! Have a good weekend everyone. x x

    1. At least I got home safely, Jackie. Listening to the many traffic information things on the way, I suspect there were a lot of people who did not make it to their destinations. There were also lots of families with young children caught up in the many traffic jams who must have been going through hell in that heat and frustration. I was comparatively lucky and had my memories of a fabulous retreat with Barbara and lots of friends, new and old, to sustain me on the journey. xxx Maggie

  27. I'm with you Barb- don't drink, smoke, do drugs. I also think that it is a personal choice so I don't judge anyone for their choices. It always seems to me though when you tell someone that you don't drink they either don't seem to really believe you are they think you must be an alcoholic. I think that coming from a family that never drank has something to do with it all. My mam's family were Methodists and although we are no longer the habits must have filtered through. Not that when I was a student I didn't have the odd half of cider but that was it just a half and I was totally skewify. Then I realised it just wasn't for me and I much prefer a cup of tea but even that has to be weak and milky. I have to confess I never liked the taste of wine. It saves me a lot of money that I can spend on crafting. Now that is where my addiction lies – stamps, stamps and more stamps. I am glad that your pain is subsiding Barb and I will remember the Oil of cloves cause I have had dry socket in the past and know how very painful it is and you never know when you will next have to say goodbye to one of the old pearly whites. Much love Jayne

    1. I always reckoned I could not get really drunk because one drink would go straight to my knees and elbows and they went all wobbly. As for tea and coffee, since going on my juicing diet, my tastes have changed totally and coffee, certainly, tastes so bitter I rarely touch it. My go-to remedy for most things is hot water with local honey (local is best as it helps to ward off hay fever), lemon and chopped fresh ginger. It deals with colds, flu, cystitis, to name but a few, can be drunk all day, just adding honey to the original lemon and ginger. It is good for the digestive system and for your joints. xxx Maggie

  28. Glad your toothache is subsiding and the retreats have gone well. I have never smoked or taken recreational drugs. Can't say I've ever liked alcohol only a very weak shandy on a hot night, just the one. I have to take blood pressure and colestrol tablets but avoid others if I can. Pain killers give me awfully bad tummies, why doctors don't listen and keep dishing them out when you tell them the effects they have on you, I don't know. Anyway rant over, have a relaxing weekend.xx

  29. Hi to all my blog friends hope you've all had a lovely day. Late on here tonight. Haven't even crafted today. It's been a lovely sunny day here. Tried my Tens machine out earlier, no effects yet, take a bit of getting used to I think. Lots of different settings to try though. Being positive. Love and hugs,Pam xx

  30. SNAP!! we haven't bothered with alcohol for over 10 years now (it really isn't necessary anyway) this is a concept many people find hard to comprehend! And….our modern world seems to focus far too much on it!
If you are in York today, we are having a pop up 'hot n' soft' Drinks on the Drive – so many neighbours pass by to stop and chat that we like to offer them a drink. It's one of the nicer parts of retirement.

  31. All my fine words deleted by a slip of the finger. No more alcohol for me when I decided that I did not like the next morning fog and haze but still had to work. Then came breast cancer and treatment. Could I have avoided cancer if I had been more moderate in my drinking. Cutting down was not the answer for me, just stop drinking alcohol altogether. I didn't miss it. It took a little while for family and friends to accept that I was serious. Twenty years on I am still here but have to continue with prescribed medication.
So pleased for you Barbara that the pain is coming under control and you are feeling 'human' again. Enjoy today and relax tomorrow.xx

  32. Hi Barb
I must admit I like the odd glass of Merlot or White Zinfandel but I can take it or leave it. I used to drink spirits mix it up and got fed up of feeling awful so I limit myself. Thank you for sharing Barb and well done you for being so open and honest, big hugs X X X
