Star Books and a Stroll down Memory Lane…

Star Books and a Stroll down Memory Lane…

Hi there.
Hope all is well with you on this rainy day?
As somebody once said to me,
“If you don’t like the English weather, just wait a minute”
Friday’s blog a private peek, right?
Well, let’s see…
Do you have boxes with trinkets and bits n bobs from the past?
I have a couple.
Here’s one I made earlier! Many years ago in fact.
Wow, those were the days when I made time to make things like this! How times have changed…
Stamps and tissue paper, tassels and bits of paper…

Shall we open the box and take a peep inside?
Ha! Full of lovely gifts and things from the kids and you!
Can you see the
Hi Grace!
That little original cartoon was from a dear dear friend of mine, Karen Matchette when Grace was tiny.
Recognise the cartoon Pebbles?
Well, Karen was a cartoonist for Hanna Barbera!
Really! She was one of the Flintstones cartoonists!
I have other pieces in the house which she did for both the kids when we lived in Carmel.
The flowery card….
Ahhh A Mother’s Day card from Mark.
He must have been a nipper.

One of the Clarity Retreats years ago at Forest Row.
Both kids with braids.
Blimey. There’s my old carpet bag.
Still use it now!
A little box, tucked up in the corner of my art room,
with all those wonderful photos and memory joggers.
To trigger good memories about good people
from the past AND present actually.
This little starbook is as lovely still as it was all those years ago,
when we made it at that retreat at the Brambletye!

maybe it’s time to make another one…
just for old time’s sake!
Or better still, rather than getting all nostalgic,
LET’S HAVE A COMPETITION !!!

Come on!
Get your clever corners out and
let’s make some Star Books this weekend!
6 squares of paper measuring 3.5″ x 3.5″
or 4″ x 4″, depending on the corner you’re using.
Piece of cake.
Actually, whilst we’re digging around in the past,
let me dig out the Star Book project from yon Project Club.
Did you know that this project Club of mine has been going since 1990 something?! Honest Guv!
I used to stick the photos of the projects on the photocopied instructions back in the day.
Or some poor sap who looked like they needed a job did!
Mark, Grace….no wonder they left the country!
I remember hanging them in the tree at the old farmhouse.
Waited forever for the wind to stop catching them so I could take a picture!
Hope you can read this!
If not, look at this pictures….
the gap was where the photo got glued…
Blimey.
The work that went into this!!
This was years before TV and help!!!
Take a picture of your Masterpiece and email me.
Then I will pick a winner
and send that Star of Star Books a £30 Clarity Gift Voucher!
Ooooh! I say I say! £30 !!
Will announce the winner next Friday.
So you’ve got a week to rise to the challenge!
Remember: You have to be in it to win it!
And Star Books are such fun and simple to make.
love & hugs,

  1. What a lovely trip down memory land Barb. I LOVE the Flintstones, how amazing to have an original piece of art from then. My Hb and I call our cat the Flintstone cat at night as every time we put him out of the bedroom door to go to sleep he's back on the bed before you turn your back! Just like Fred putting Kitty out every night! Enjoy your weekend, it's turned really cold xx

  2. Ooh 'eck, I shall have to look at how to make these. Looks like fun. Those little treasures are far more valuable than the most expensive diamonds, because they hold our most important memories. Keep them safe. Off now to see what I can come up with. xx Maggie

  3. Well, that is a challenge! I still have those project sheets with the photos attached – not sure if I joined after the star books one, so I'll have to find the first folder. Lovely to dig out old photos and bring back those memories – I had some old photo albumns out the other day and was reminiscing myself. Susan x

  4. Hi Barbara, I bet you wonder where the years have gone and your company has grown so much with an ever increasing range of arts. You've worked so hard as well,

    love Julie xxx

  5. Just been down memory lane myself recently. Was a bit wary as I knew there were things from people no longer with me,but hey ho I did it with a few tears and lots of laughs and many happy memories. Haven't done a star book before so will maybe have a go xx

  6. How fabulous to have all those little treasures to look back on. I am sure I have a few things here and there – maybe I will make a little box and put them all in there. I remember this project when it first appeared – I will go through my Clarity library and give this a go I think. Have a lovely weekend. xx

  7. I have a memory blanket box..and it is lovely to revive old memories. Yours looks really good…and I bet it's just one of many!
I love your star card. xx

  8. Hi Barbara
What a beautiful box and lovely memories. It always makes me smile when I find one of those treasured memories, cards from flowers, dried roses and pictures and cards from Emma. She always laughs because I have a paper plate with a doily and cake case on it hanging in the bedroom – rainbows project for Mother's Day 12 years ago – she would be very sad if I took it down as would I! Love the look of the star books, I'm going to have a play over the weekend. They look great hanging in the tree. Enjoy your weekend – any news on Graces audition?.
    Love Diane xxxxx

  9. Lovely to keep these special things. I made a memory album for our daughter's wedding day and it was on display for friends and family to look through. I made one for our son as well so he wouldn't feel left out but that has never had a "public" airing! It was lovely to make them – although it took a year as I was working long hours then – and have memories triggered and even more special to give them and see their reactions.

  10. i have never made one so perhaps I had better rise to the challenge. Glad you have given us a week. Might get the grandson having a go, half term this week so looking for projects to keep an energetic little lad busy. Love your memories, I have several little keepsakes dotted around the house. xx

  11. Mmmm I don't think I've made one of these before but I do remember being in the Clarity club years ago when you used to stick the photos on the page and send them out . I think I am just about organised enough in the new house and my craft room to be able to find enough bits and bobs to have a go at this
    Have a great weekend
    Jackie x

  12. What wonderful memories and lovely star books. We are in the process of emptying the loft! 35 years of memories, rubbish, 3 children's stuff dumped on us and also mice poo! Cannot even begin to do the star book. I have only a few days before we are off to the sun and sea. A well needed break from the world of work. Enjoy making your star books
    Good luck
    Love Anne (Reading)

  14. Oh what a fabulous box full of memories! I love coming across stuff to look at. I made a photobpok for my sister the other year. Got out loads of old photos and memorabilia that i inherited from my mum .

    3. Hi Sheila, hope you've had a good day with less pain and that your podiatrist appt went well. What craft did you do. I've been putting my stamps from the sale away and admiring them, so not done any craft. Visited doc today as pain getting worse, explained more about my x-Ray given me something to help me sleep, that's my worse time. Oh and ordered my border plates etc. Love and hugs Pam xx

  16. What amazing memories. I have things like that tucked all over the house. They are great little treasures when you come across them. How fab that you have artwork from that talented lady, I loved the Flintstones.

  17. Hi Barbara, Such a fabulous box of treasures, I'm loving the cartoon with Hi Grace, such beautiful memories. I have momentous bits all over the place, I really should get them together all in one place !! Such beautiful star books, I need to 'digest' the instructions, they are so beautiful.
Lots of love from Patricia xx

  19. Lovely memories! I love coming across things like that, bet you were lost in a little world of yesteryear……..
those instructions are amazing, very labour intensive! What would we do without all our modern technology, it's so much more available.
    Must have a go!
    Thanks for sharing, Barbara X X X

  20. What a lovely peek into your treasures box Barbara! Love how you have decorated the box too!! I have never seen 'star books' before, but I love them! A totally surprising kind of blog today! Thank you xxx

  21. My girls both keep memory boxes. Neither are keen to discuss what is in them. It's things like 'special stones' or a sachet of sugar, stuff that would normally go in the bin. I think that they are worried that we will laugh at them but I love that they can explain the memory behind the item. I also have projects with photos stuck to them. I'll need to have a look at the instructions for the star book.

  22. It is lovely to get out a box full of memories occasionally and have a delve through Barbara. When I look back I can't imagine where all that time went and feel a bit sad that time has played havoc with my body and face..lol. Thank you for showing us some of your precious keepsakes. x

  23. Hi Barb,
What a lovely memory box, love the Pebbles card – used to love The Flintstones! I remember the project sheets with photos on them – they must have taken you forever. Have never seen star books before so will have to get my head round the instructions first. My Art Noveau ladies came today and have to say that they are gorgeous. Looking forward to having a play with them – that sounds a bit rude doesn't it! !! Love Alison xxx

  24. Hi Barbara, I've kept a box that has lots of little things in it that hold special memories for me, but never thought to decorate it. I think I'll rectify that. Thank you so much for showing us some of your treasured memories. I did a star book the other Christmas for each of our grandchildren but it wasn't quite like that, this looks a bit more complicated but will give it a go, not saying it'll be ready by next Friday for the competition though. I put an order in today, how could I resist those border plates etc. Hope you and Dave have a restful weekend. Love Pam xx

  25. Hi Brenda and Dot, hope you've both had a good day. Have you had a nice time with your grandchildren Dot? Seeing two of ours tomorrow, looking forward to it. Love and hugs to you both. Pam xx

  26. We have a TiVo box as well Dot. Also another recorder that Pete can put the programmes onto disc for me. I'm no good with technology, so leave it to him. I've got a lot of Barbara's C&C on disc + Barbara' s own recorded discs, great to look back on.xx

  27. Sometimes whilst tidying I stumble across a forgotten treasure, I used to make boxes with a photo album as a lid from old cereal packets and card. I was into bookbinding for a time and loved making these for friends instead of a card for their birthday. I would fill them with keepsakes from a holiday, a wedding or some other occasion, the housework goes out of the window if I find one as I delve into it and relive that time, happy days xx

  28. Hi Barb, well guess what, I have that project sheet, I have them all in folders from when I joined the club (folders are a bit full, need to get new ones). Will try give it a go. I too have projects from years ago, that I cannot part with, and often look back on. So good luck everyone that has a go. Have a great weekend all. Bx

  29. Hi, did not get around to comment about this yesterday, looks fun. Will try to download the instructions.

Was a bit of a difficult day yesterday, trying to sort things out long distance for Mum…. and everything I was trying fell on deaf ears!

    Crafty hugs pen x
