Saturday’s Partridge and a Limerick challenge!

Saturday’s Partridge and a Limerick challenge!

Hello there!
Thank you for stopping by.
Thought I’d put another spin on a water-colour paper piece.
Am loving the water-colour paper ;
you will see why in a minute…
Cut the water-colour paper to 7″ x 7″.
Brush Wild Honey to and fro, using your Clarity brush.

Are you having Déja Vue? Have you seen this before?
Add Lettuce in the gaps.

Ringing any bells yet?

Come on! Here’s the clue!
Got it yet? This is where we find out if you have been paying attention to this old daily bloggage!

Yep. Tis the very same piece.
I decided not to stick the poppies down;
the background was screaming
“Use me again! Use me again!”

So I decided to add the beautiful partridge.
Sit him on the words, like a branch.

But here was the test.
I wanted to see how much colour I could extract
from the water-colour paper after a week.
Answer: Loads. In fact, most.
By simply painted the area with water, allowing the water to soak in and then blotting with a paper towel,
I was able to extract  pretty much ALL the ink.
That is good to know.

Which is all very well and good. But then I looked at the composition, and I thunk to myself:
him don’t look too happy.
Him don’t look like he be up for celebrating much!
Altogether now: aaaaaaahhhhhhhhh…

Let’s colour him in a little,
with some Spectrum Noir pencils and a yellow Distress marker.
Maybe that’ll cheer him up.
Looks a little bit perkier.

Mmm. Now I’m all for less is more,
and this does look quite cool.
But I really think it needs something….

And then it came to me.
It’s time for a LIMERICK!!!

I’ll start it.
You finish it.
Then we’ll pick the best one,
and we will make a stamp of it!

So here’s the first two lines.
Ready?

There once was a partridge from France,
who never got asked to dance.

Now let’s see what YOU can come up with!!
I cannot wait to read these! Come on! I could do with some cheering up after having to leave Gracie in New York….

much love,

  4. Hi Barbara. I'm not surprised that you have reused that gorgeous background.
You are going to have a hard job choosing a winner if previous limerick entries are anything to go by. Some of the people that comment are so clever, I am looking forward to reading them : )

There once was a partridge from France
Who never got asked to dance
    He tried and he tried
But the girls rolled their eyes
Just because of his awkward neck stance.
    Take care.

  5. There once was a partridge from France
Who never got asked to dance

    1. There once was a partridge from France
who never got asked to dance.
      He chukared and strutted
but his dance career seemed gutted
as all the ladies would do was just glance.

  8. That wild honey is just scrummy! Definately on my wish list.

There once was a partridge from France,
who never got asked to dance.
He got wrapped in wild honey
    Started looking quite scrummy
Now he's celebrating a new wild romance.

Amazing what can be done when asked! Have a lovely weekend.

  9. There once was a partridge from France,
Who never got asked to the dance,
    Saying "Comme ci comme ca",
    She retired to the bar,
And toasted herself with "Bonne Chance"!

    Lovely art, as always Barbara.
    Thank you for the inspiration.

  10. There once was a partridge from France,
Who never got asked to dance,
Although he had 2 left feet,
    His face was very sweet,
    Please give him a chance!

    Have a lovely weekend Barbara

    Hugs

  11. Hi Barb,
Good to know that ink removal is still possible from watercolour card after all that time.
    My effort:
There once was a partridge from France,
Who never got asked to dance.
    She preened and she pouted,
    She shrieked and she shouted.
Then to her delight, the Prince at the hop,
Asked her to waltz, to foxtrot and bop!
So pleased you had a lovely time with Grace, but I know the wrench when leaving. Safe journey back, you may still be travelling xx.

  12. There once was a Partridge from France
Who never got asked to dance
    He tried out a Tango
    Whilst eating a Mango
At least he was a bird that took a chance Enjoy your weekend Barbara xxx

  13. There once was a partridge from France
Who never got asked to dance
So she covered herself in glitter
Which made her look so much fitter
    That beautiful partridge from France

  14. There once was a partridge from France,
who never got asked to dance.
    So Barbara who knew him,
    Went and drew him,
And offered him a cash advance!!!

Love that background Barbara and the partridge looks really cool on it!
Glad you had a great time with Gracie! It's flown by! Love and hugs! Xxx

  15. Clever you re-using your background! I hope you had a lovely week with Grace, and that everyone's fabulous limericks are cheering you up on your return? Here's my effort!

There once was a partridge from France,
who never got asked to dance,
    He posed and he gazed,
    And was then quite amazed,
When the pear tree said "give him a chance"!

  16. Hi Barbara,

FINALLY figured out how to send an email and join in!

My hubby came up with this limerack:

There once was a partridge from France
Who never got asked to dance.
    He couldn’t think why…
    “I’m a good looking guy.
Could it be my pink leather pants?”

And I am giving this one a go:

There once was a partridge from France
Who never got asked to dance.
    But the Toucan took pity
    He was cute…he was witty
And they started a lovely romance.

  17. There once was a partridge from France
Who never got asked to dance
    She painted her feathers
    To attract the fellas
And now she is in with a chance

  18. I'm having trouble with this post I'll give it one more try, third time lucky maybe?

The once was a partridge from France,
who never got asked to dance.
    Until she auditioned for Strictly,
    and learnt very quickly.
Now that Oh La La partridge can prance.

  19. I love it love it when you wax limerickal! Here's one Marilyn emailed me, because she couldn't leave a message here!
    My entry is:-

There once was a partridge from France,
Who never got asked to dance.

    So she strutted around

    And a partner she found

She said, ‘Pleased to make your acquaintance’.

    Thanks

    Marilyn

  20. I will have a go, not my strong point.

There once was a partridge from France,
Who never got asked to dance
But he gave it a twirl
And ended up in a whirl
    So Strictly had no chance.

Off to read the others now, did not want to do so before thinking about mine. Bet there are some good ones. Hope they have cheered you up, x

  21. I love your site and blog so much! You inspire me so!
There once was a partridge from France,
who never got asked to dance.
So he thought, "I'll be a smartie!"
And he threw his own party,
and met his lifetime dance partner named Nanc!

  22. There once was a partridge from France
Who never got asked to dance
    With his 2 clipped wings
    He could manage highland flings
And soon had the ladies entranced

  23. Hi Barbara, so glad you had a great time with Grace. I'm not that great at limericks still here's my attempt…

There once was a partridge from France
Who never got asked to dance
So she dressed in her finest
    With feathers the shiniest
And showed them all how she could prance

Hope you are cheered by all these entries. xx

  24. Well here I go. Here's my offering.

There once was a partridge from France
Who never got asked to dance
    For his moves were hypnotic
    As he performed the robotic
And the audience all fell in a trance!

    Hope it makes you smile.
    Jeanette xx

  25. Just gorgeous Barb – I love this little partridge – as for your limerick – here goes :

There once was a partridge from France
Who never got asked to dance
    He tried Strictly Come
    And fell on his Bum
    his dancing would never entrance!

    Cheers!

    Rachel x

  26. Lovely art work now here is my go
There once was a partridge from france
Who never got asked to dance
    His feathers were pretty
But his feet were all gritty
So he was unable to dance
But he knew how to prance
    And show off his stance
The poor little partridge from France

  27. Hi. Many thanks to Barbara and Paul as I have now learnt how to blog. On a roll so I will now attempt a limerick.

There once was a partridge from France
Who never got asked to dance
    Then a handsome young pheasant
Said " A waltz would be pleasant"
And it led to a whirlwind romance!

  28. Hi Barbara, my attempt:
There once was a partridge from France
Who never was asked to dance
    So she coloured her feathers
    Put on red leathers
Now, as a hot chick, she's found romance!

  29. Beautiful card

There once was a partridge from France
Who never was asked to dance
    Then Abba came along
    And according to their song
He heard take a chance, take a chance, take a chance…

  30. Love the card, my attempt is

The once was a Partridge from France
who never got asked to dance
    A partner he found
    then they glided around
    to celebrate their romance

    thanks, j

  31. I am a bit late, but just for fun I´ll give it a try:

There once was a partridge from France,
who never got asked to dance.

    until he saw THAT doll
he just took his chance to dance this guy from France

    xx

  32. Hi Barbara, better late than never:

There once was a cartridge from France
Who never got asked for a dance
    She produced a big smile
    & thought for a while
Well I'll just have to go freelance.

Glad you had a good time in New York & thanks for sharing your photos. Great card as always.xx

  33. Hi Barb, great blog, love the coloured partridge, but unfortunately Sunday brain is not co-operating in coming up with anything as good as what the other lovely bloggers have come up with for a limerick. There are some really great ones, so looking forward to which one is chosen. Have a great Sunday all. Bx

  36. There once was a partridge from France,
who never got asked to dance.
That's not the way to treat others,
So he called up his sisters and brothers.
On Mass to the floor they went and swung their pants

Oh I give up just not got the way to end them right – that will teach me to pay attention in English next time around lol!

  37. A second attempt,
There once was a partridge from France
Who never was asked to dance

And amazed everyone with her flamboyance!

  38. Love this background, Barbara. x

  40. I know am very, very late but just for the fun….
