3 days to go…
It’s the last Sunday of 2013, so in Clarityland that means two things.
Firstly, the December Stencil of the month needs airing one more time. It’s the lovely Rose Panel.
So I thought I would do a very simple step-by-step stencil card, for those who are still not sure how a stencil actually works.
You need
Long white Card
Make-up sponges
Distress Pad Old Paper or Frayed Burlap
Position and mask off the Stencil with low-tack stencil tape,
paying attention to detail.
When you have taped it down and masked it off,
dust over the whole area with an undercoat colour, like Old Paper or Frayed Burlap.
Load the brushes directly from the ink pads.
Then we will start adding colour to the leafy areas, using a fresh brush. You can wash our Clarity Stencil brushes in warm soapy water afterwards, but while you are in the middle of a job, use them all!
I’m much the same in the kitchen, aren’t you? Every bowl, every pan and every spoon is in use while I’m being creative!
Anyway, so add green where the leaves are
and pink where the roses are. If you hold the brushes further down the bristles, towards the point, you will have more control where you are applying the colour. Literally use the brush like a paintbrush.
Build up the depth of colour gradually. This is where
So then, being an old stamper by nature, I got to wondering how to get the colour on the stencil, instead of in the gaps. So I laid the stencil on a piece of copy paper and literally coated it with ink.
I figured out that I needed a lot of pressure to transfer the ink, so out the the E-Bosser (Love it!).
I sandwiched the inky stencil between two pieces of long white card and all the necessary plates,
I sandwiched the inky stencil between two pieces of long white card and all the necessary plates,
ran it through the embossing machine,
And Bingo!
I like this look, too. I am sure there are better ways of doing this, but it worked for me! And what I like is that the card is properly embossed now; the colour is embedded in the design, if you like.
So there we are.
It’s the last opportunity to buy the Rose Panel stencil at a discounted price before January.
And there was something else…
Last Sunday of the month today…
Aha!
First Sunday of the month next Sunday!
Which means I’m back on TV! 9-11am and 2-3pm.
Oh my, oh my. It’s time to make a plan again…
with love from

Beautiful inky creations! A stunning stencil and the colours are so soft and delicate which makes it so epherial, thanks for sharing x
Nice one today again . Can't quite get to grips with stencils and brushes but I keep practicing now and then and of course with lessons like this from you it shouldn't be hard to catch on! X
Only got to grips with stencils when I got your brushes. They make the difference and this card is so quick would make a lovely thank you card.

It's so pretty. I haven't tried embossing my stencils yet but I'll definitely give it a go and see what happens 🙂 Setting the record button for next week's shows today so that I can't miss them. D xx
Love this stencil, my new favourite, love what you have done and putting the two ideas together, I think I am going to dry emboss and then colour to make a beautiful card for my 93 year old mum in law, I like to make tactile cards for her because her eyesight is failing , bless her xxx thanks for the inspiration yet again, the beginning of the year is a busy one for family & friends birthdays and thinking up an idea is the hardest bit when your mojo is on holiday after Christmas 🙂 xx
I am just about to play with some stencils and my brushes myself. I love this Stencil but can't play with it until all my projects are done! Good advice by the way, why was I keeping 1 clean brush, for that special colour combo, when I can wash them???
great inspiration as usual – thank you. My New Years Resolution is definitely going to be to spend more time 'playing' with my crafty tools! Happy New Year to you and yours x
Lovely design and great way to use it. Have just ordered my set of brushes so will play when they arrive. Thank you for the step by step and the pics are always useful. XX
I'm going to spend an hour or so playing with the whimsy cottages from yesterday but I love today's blog too – on my list for another day. Looking forward to next Sunday 🙂 Lx
Hello Barb!
I was half way down the page and wondering if you could emboss this stencil…and then the next image was of course embossing, tada!
I don't have this one yet…… but it looks so Elizabethan to me, and I love anything Tudor so this will be next on my list .
Hope you enjoyed all your guests yesterday Barb
Have a lovely calm evening!
Love marg
Woohoo. Barbs back on the telly next weekend !! I can't wait ! Lovely work again Barbara xx
What lovely creations. I wouldn't have dare putting one of the clarity stencils in the embossing machine, but will surely have a try now.
Thanks for sharing it with us.

Oh brilliant this is such a lovely stencil. I bought it when you demonstrated it with the fibres, now I can have a play with both techniques. I expect most of us have the first Sunday of the month firmly fixed in our minds. Even my husband watches and is impressed and he certainly does not give praise easily. Hope you had a lovely day yesterday and enjoy your last bit of relaxing time before you start the mad rush again. Lynne xx
I love this rose-stencil, it is so pretty. And this is a very usefull step-by-step demonstration. Thanks.
I got to have these brushes 🙂 and some more things from clarity land. xxx
Going to order from Clarity tomorrow and will add this to the list, it looks so delicate. I have your brushes and they have made a massive difference. Thanks again for the inspiration, looking forward to next Sunday – checked C & C website today but couldn't see what we would need for the show. J x
Hi Barb, knowing you, the plan is already in place for next weeks shows. So looking forward to them. Love this stencil, so delicate and pretty, however limited post Christmas funds dictate what is going to be bought! I think stencil brushes are a big possibility. Thank you for all the inspiration and the amazing blog, which I look forward to every day. May 2014 bring more of your delightful insight into life and crafting. Bx
Absolutely beautiful and even better is the fact that I got the Stencil Hamper for Christmas, along with more Distress Inks. I haven't had a chance to play with any of my new 'toys' yet, but this is definitely something for me to try first!
Lovely Barbara. I can't wait until my parcel with the rose stencil arrives in the next few days! As I have a few days off work i hope to have lots of fun playing with all my new stamps and stencils. I have tidied away my craft stuff for the last week so there was space for Christmas and i am now suffering from withdrawal symptoms!!

Cool technique. Always a delight to see what you have done. Thanks so much.
I love both these images. I don't have the stencil brushes or this stencil but have got these on my wish list. There are so many items on my list that I am having a hard job to decide what to buy first. Many thanks for the inspiration and look forward to watching the Clarity shows on Create and Craft next Sunday.

Big and beautiful.
such a pretty stencil Barbara – and thanks for the reminder that we can use stencils two ways – seems odd but I do tend to forget! Big Hugs rachel x
I love the soft effect from inking through the stencil – they are my new favourite things to play with! I have got this one and may just have a go at this tonight….wish me luck 🙂
This really is a beautiful stencil and the soft toning of the inks is a lovely effect. I'll definitely have to get this stencil…. x
What soft, delicate colours, it's definitely time to put away my bold shades, glitter & sparkle for another year. Wonderful

Lovely colours to show off this great stencil. I've had my Clatity stencil brushes since the summer and find them fantastic. So much easier to use than any of the others I own.
Hi Barb,
I love this stencil- got it ages ago but haven't used it yet unfortunately as I was too busy with Christmas cards. Need to get the stencil brushes though. I love what you have shown us today and will definitely be giving this a go. Hope you've got your house sorted out especially the cellar. Love Alison xxx
