Make Art NOT War. Well, I think we can all get behind that one! There is quite enough conflict and noise in the world without us adding to it, and one of the very best ways I know to quieten the noise — certainly in my own head — is to get with my hands and make something. Today we’re creating a very cool little landscape, and this particular technique really does have legs. We actually explored it during our one-day workshop at the Open Days back in June, and while I’m giving you the bones of it here today, there is so much further we can take it.

In fact, while I was filming this little session, I found myself thinking, I’m not finished with this. There are so many different directions we could go in, so many “what ifs” to try, that I’ve decided I want to explore it properly with you in a longer live online session. Today is a taster, if you like — enough to get you started and, hopefully, get those creative cogs turning. Then we can really get stuck in together and see just how far we can push it. I’ll tell you more about that anon.

And actually, that is rather the point of this whole Arty Challenge, isn’t it? A little idea doesn’t have to end when the video ends. It can be the beginning of something much bigger. Today, though, just enjoy the process, play with the landscape and see where it takes you. Make art, not war. I know which one does me more good. xx
