Art has a wonderful way of taking us places, doesn’t it? Even when we can’t travel for whatever reason, we can still pick up a pencil, a paintbrush or a few inks and let our imagination carry us off to foreign climes. Just think back to our SHAC days during Lockdown! We travelled all over the world together — Japan, Africa, Holland, America, Hawaii — all without leaving home.

And that’s where the explore and experiment part comes in too. We don’t need to know exactly where we’re going when we start. We can try something, change direction, follow the colours, see where a line takes us — and perhaps end up somewhere we never expected.

Keats wrote in his poem Fancy, “Ever let the Fancy roam, / Pleasure never is at home.” Make of that what you will, but for today, let’s simply let our art take us somewhere we fancy being. Perhaps it’s a little cottage by the sea, a tropical island, a bustling city, or somewhere completely imaginary. There are no tickets to buy, no bags to pack and no limits on where we can go. So let your fancy roam today — explore, experiment, and see where your art takes you. Where shall we go?
