Clarity Open Days …
Hi there
Thought I would just pop in to say hi. It’s been a pretty hectic couple of weeks, so I won’t apologise for not blogging. Last week was a bit of a blur, to be frank!
Rolled from Hobbymaker on Tuesday straight into Clarity Open Day mode. Grace landed on Wednesday. We picked her up from Heathrow in the evening – and then went over to Maidstone for the next four days. We all stayed in a hotel this time, in a bid to spare ourselves the hefty commute through Tunbridge Wells each day. That was a smart move.
So much time and effort goes into the Open Days and the Sunday workshops beforehand. Weeks and weeks of planning and preparation. But I’ve got to tell you. From where I’m sitting this evening – it was all worth it.
Every year, we worry. We are apprehensive about whether visitors will come, whether visitors will enjoy etc etc etc. And every year, it is a resounding success. I have to say, this year was no different. There were a few key people missing, which was a shame, like Glynis and Pete, Tina Morris, Ken Kilminster. But aside from those friends not being there, it really couldn’t have been better. Everything was just right. It was brilliant to see so many familiar faces, hook up with old friends, be able to have proper conversations. So many new friends too! From all over the place! Maria came all the way from Dresden in Germany, Mary came all the way from Scotland, lovely Beryl Sheppard made it ON HER BIRTHDAY, even though she has moved out of the region now – seriously, people came a long way to attend. And my dear old Mum was in full swing again too – which is just magic.
Folks enjoyed the demos, the make n takes, the good weather, the good energy, my pottery, the raffles, the banter. It was just all round excellent. A load of people rocked up at the door without tickets, so I needn’t have worried about low numbers either.

The workshops went down very well too. Linda Williams and Louise had a great session next door, and the guests who were with me seemed to really enjoy our mixed media day too. The new format was very well received.
Here we see Linda’s crew single-filing out of the big hall, in the direction of their own parchment room.

So all in all, a great weekend.
But by Monday, the Clarity crew was absolutely cream-crackered. No SHAC, no 2pm Clarity TV on Monday. It was all we could manage to unload the van and cars. The demonstrators had had to drive all the way home, up north, to Wales and beyond. A huge thank you to them for all their hard work and help. And we had to dismantle everything.
By Monday, Grace said she could feel her heart beating in her feet, Paul and Jilly couldn’t speak properly, Dave was hobbling, and I was zapped. Even young Jazz had trouble remembering what she was supposed to be doing at work on Monday morning! Me? I never even made it there!!
All worth it. Teamwork makes the dream work, eh.

Did you attend?
Did you enjoy it?
What was a highlight for you, if you did?
Answers below please… Facebook has been full of lovely feedback, which is so gratifying – makes it all worthwhile.
Thank you so very much for making the effort to come down and support Clarity if you did attend. And on a personal note, Dave and I really would like to thank everybody who like our arty Clay-Wood artwork enough to invest, too. Our little Raku birds on their yew and oak plinths literally flew out!
As Corrine Bailey Rae once sang, ‘three little birds, sat on a window, and they told me I don’t need to worry’

Worry doesn’t work, does it. We live in abundance, and I just have to keep reminding myself of that. Thanks again for keeping us going. Without you, what would be the point?
Love always,
Barb x x x

It was an amazing weekend. I feel very honoured to have been a small part of things. Thanks again for the fabulous workshop. My pottery purchases are safely in my growing art gallery.
Thank you Sarah, for running the excellent stamping make n takes! Xxx
Hi Barbara, it was a fantastic 2 Open Days, lots of chat, demos from the design team & well worth the trip down to Kent on the train/bus. We added 2 days to our trip & went to Folkestone first – a bit blustery but it blew the cobwebs away.
I managed to get one of you little birds which is now sat on my bookshelf along with the little pots from previous years & this years ATC & PTC swaps. A wonderful display of all things Clarity.
Ah thank you Sue. You are a marvellous customer and friend of Clarity xxx
Thank you, have a great time in Paris with Grace. No doubt there will be a few tales to tell & pictures to share afterwards x
I can’t pick out a highlight. We only made the one day, Friday, but it flew by. The demonstrations, the make and takes and the displays were all fantastic. To top it off we came home with a beautiful pottery, a wren and an owl.
I’m not surprised you were all so tired! I hope you can all slow down this week
Thank you all for a brilliant day. Xx
Thank you so much Gill and Madeline , for always supporting us. I am so glad you enjoyed your day with us. Xxx
I heartily agree, it was such a lovely day! Thoroughly enjoyed seeing all the talented artists at work doing various demos, the make and takes were brilliant, and it’s always so great to catch up with all the Clarity team. I’m in love with my little owl friend – in fact, he’s looking at me right now, just as he did across the hall to tempt me over to the pottery table!
Thank you Barbara and all the team for your incredible work bringing the community together. It’s such a delight to spend the day with like-minded folks, sharing conversation and inspiration. I hope you all have a well-deserved rest over the remainder of the week, and I’ll be looking forward to the next event <3 xxx
My first ever Open Day, and had not realised the protocol for booking in early for Make and Takes. SO not complaining, as it gave me a lot of time to mingle and chat!! Thank you everyone for such phenomenal planning, nothing was too much trouble, and you all looked tired at the end of Day 1, let alone Day 3!
Loved chatting to Louise, who gave me great picot cutting tips, and to sit at Linda’s feet and chat was fantastic.
Praying you get some catch up time, and thanks again xxx
Only made Sunday but it was a lovely day. Thoroughly enjoyed learning something new. Thank you Barbara, Paul and all the team. Xx
I loved every minute, chatting with friends old and new , demos, Shopping, Learning, Sharing, laughing, just time for me! Topped off with a great workshop. Thankyou so much Barbara and all the team. ♥️
hi. the open days and the workshop were both amazing.
all brilliantly run and so well organised. I came on my own as non of my friends craft so it was lovely to sit Sunday and craft with like minded lovely people. thank you to Barbara and all the clarity team for making me so welcome. xxx
The open days are one of the highlights of the year and I plan our holidays around them.
This year was no exception. Everything is done to perfection and it’s so great to be able to sit in front of all the talented demonstrators and learn so much each time. The raffle prizes are second to none and it’s lovely putting faces to names too and buying the products too. I spend far too much of our income on Clarity but besides loving all the products, like many customers we are so desperate for you to survive these difficult times even if we have to skip a Tesco delivery some weeks to make up for it!
I’ve been using your products since the first stamp club and the quality is so good that twenty odd years later they still work.
I appreciate all the work that the whole team puts in to the open days and all the education too all year. Please Take care of yourself Barbara. We would all rather you did less to have a better work/life balance than burn yourself out. Thanks to everyone of the Clarity Family and look forward to seeing you all in November. Xx
I enjoyed watching you all on the FB lives so thanks to Grace for doing them. You must all be cream crackered! X
I’ve loved the Open Days since they first started and it’s now such a privilege to play a small part in them! As others have said, it’s brilliant spending the days catching up with old and new Clarity friends – and putting faces to names!
My little pottery birds are still sitting in their packaging at home, as we headed straight to Devon on Sunday morning – sad to have missed the workshop, but the views from our farm cottage are helping to make up for it!
It was my first open day and boy it was wonderful. I don’t think I stopped smiling the whole time I was there. I was in my own but didn’t feel alone for one minute. All the demonstrators were brilliant with lots of helpful tips. I was a lucky raffle ticket winner, now a proud owner of a Groovi Foundation Course, so looking forward to the link to start. What wonderful prizes there were too. It was so well organised, I thoroughly enjoyed it and will definitely go again and book a full day workshop. Brilliant, well done everyone and thank you x
Hi Barb. I loved the open days this year even though there were a few friends not there. But there were many more that I could chat to, and some new friends to meet too.
I feel privileged to be a part of your team and really enjoyed sharing my hints and tips with everyone who wanted to see and listen to what I was doing.
And my best bit has to be getting my little owl on its log! And it now sits proudly on my coffee table next to the bowl I got last year.
I can’t wait til the next open days in November!
Love and hugs to you and all the clarity family. Xxx
Hi Barbara and Team Clarity, thank you, thank you, thank you.
Everything about these open days was just brilliant from start to finish. The make and takes were so much fun and each and every one demonstrating was a pleasure to watch and learn from. Thank you Sam Crowe for giving me the chance to use the gel plate, I have already taken mine out of its shiny new packet and used it. Time spent with Louise greatly improved my pico cutting technique and I was chuffed to bits. Thank you Jane Telford for taking the time to fathom out why my pico crosses weren’t working for me. I won a £25.00 voucher in the lucky dip which was still warm when I spent it. Lunches were fantastic, thanks Jazz and Jazz’ Mum, and Sue was an absolute sweetheart. Grace, I love your sense of humour and one day you will see me on Facebook…promise!
And if all of that isn’t enough, I am privileged to have added a Roku owl with yew plinth to my collection, and I finally got my hands on one of the slate vases, thank you Barbara’s Mum. It’s on our hearth full of beautiful flowers. I guess what I’m trying to say is the whole two days were bloody brilliant, and every second was my favourite bit. And, Barbara, I know the egg I gave you was a bit of fun, but you really are A GOOD EGG, and you’re loved to bits. Roll on the Christmas Open Days.

I’m not going to repeat everything I’ve said elsewhere or that others have said but I do want to say is that what I appreciate most is how much you guys give of yourselves, how open and straightforward you are with us all. You genuinely care and that comes across so clearly. There is honestly no other company i have ever come across that comes close. You so deserve to thrive. And if, God forbid, you didn’t so many people would be not just sad but diminished. Thank you so much for all the efforts you make on our behalf. Now look after yourselves!
I wasn’t able to attend but thanks to Grace I enjoyed the updates via FB live. Everything looked fabulous and the lovely, friendly atmosphere was evident too! The amount of organisation required to run the open days and workshops is plain to see and the hard work from everyone involved is commendable! The Clarity team are definitely a force to be reckoned with, and the wider Clarity family are a lovely bunch too! Congratulations on a successful event, I hope that I can join in the fun next year.
I hope that you and Grace have a fabulous time in Paris, you’ve certainly earned the break!

Would love to be able to attend these events, but they are always too far for me to go, I don’t drive and there never seem to be anything in my neck of the woods, Bristol. Would so love it if you could come down south west a bit.
Glad everything went well. As I said in my Facebook post a big thank you to Grace .Her live updates really made me feel as though I was there with you all and can now put faces to some names I know from the shac. Waiting for your beautiful pottery to hit the pinkygray website I really need an owl!!!!! Enjoy Paris with Grace can’t wait hear all about it.❤
I’m so glad the Open Days went well, looks great from the photos! I was sorry to miss them this year as I always enjoy it but it was our Golden wedding anniversary and the kids had booked us a weekend away. I’ll be there for the next ones, though! Enjoy your well-deserved break
So pleased to hear that everyone enjoyed the weekend. Unable to attend at the moment so thank you to Grace for sharing the lives so we could feel part of it all. Not surprised that you were all shattered on Monday so much work and effort goes into the planning and doing for those days.
Hope you can have a bit of recovery time
I’m not going to lie, when me & my sister arrived at 9.30 on Saturday to find out the make & takes were already sold out we were really disappointed as they are normally one of the highlights of our day. However this did mean we were able to spend more time watching the demonstrations and the time flew by and before we knew it, it was the last raffle of the day! We picked up lots of hints & tips and thanks to Deborah who gave us the opportunity to try out the stamp pens, they made their way into our baskets!
Thanks to the whole Clarity team for a great day out.
Hello Barb and everyone, I would have loved to attend, but unfortunately we had family commitments which clashed, maybe next year right. Thank you so much for everyone posting what they did, for Grace sharing the live videos. It must have been so enjoyable to be part of all that energy and creativity. I hope you can all rest a bit now, and relax and breathe. Take care everyone. Bx
A brilliant few days, Ditton is a fantastic venue, especially for our little m/home group. Alison and I really enjoyed everything. Meeting up with friends is a highlight, making new ones even better. Thanks go to you and the whole team for all the hard work it takes and the generosity of everyones time and friendliness. Be back in August.
I’ve never been to an Open Day at Ditton, but loved those I attended at Leyburn. They introduced me to like minded people and I became a member of ENGG (East Northants Groovi Group), attending meetings until ill health got in the way.
I have been to Ditton for Summer Retreats and to Tunbridge too so I know what a fantastic venue it is for all things Clarity.
So I just want to thank all the Clarity team, those whose faces we know and those we don’t, who help to nurture a feeling of inclusion. Although I was only there in spirit Grace’s lives made me think I was with everyone.
Have a rest, regroup and ever onwards. You never know I might make it to Kent again one day.
Hi Barbara
I had a wonderful time at the Friday Open Day.
My husband drove us down – I got up at 3:30 and we set off at 5am – excellent journey, no delays, arrived early! Set off back home at 3:30 and got home at 7pm – traffic delays around London but not a problem. We were shattered but thoroughly enjoyed the day and very glad to be there!
There was such a lovely atmosphere – a friendly, relaxed, community spirit.
I think the highlight for me was obtaining the beautiful Raku BG original pot to add to my collection!
Thank you Barbara and the Clarity team for all your hard work – we are immensely grateful to you all and appreciate everything you do. xxxx
Reading all the positive comments shows just how amazing the Open Days are and I agree wholeheartedly. As soon as entering we are greeted by the lovely Clarity team, making sure we have everything we need to enjoy the day. It’s a feeling of close friendship where everyone is considerate, friendly and encouraging. Your generosity is truly amazing and I was lucky to win a Lightwave which will be shared with the group of ladies I meet at our monthly Groovi group. Thank you for the beautiful wren, which sits on my bedroom unit so as soon as I wake up I see the sun shining on him sitting on the lovely yew plinth! My gratitude always for all you do.
so very glad all went well. I was thinking about you all whilst I was packing up my craft room into crates to go into storage. I thought I had a lot of craft stuff, now I’m certain! I’ve had to send for more boxes!!!
(moving out for a full rewire and we’ve been here 30 years!)
one day I will find a way to get down to the open days. until then, I enjoy hearing about them. I’m very glad your birds flew out. they really are lovely.
wishing you all a swift recovery.
Alison xx
The above comments say it all. Congratulations on a very successful event.
I am miffed that I can no longer manage to attend the events, I know how great they are from a past visit. However it is good to see all your hard work paid off. I hope you and Grace have a great time in Paris. In the meantime try to rest, stop worrying and be assured we will all be here supporting you for the foreseeable future.
Love to all at Clarity❤️❤️❤️
From the moment we walked into the hall, troubles were lifted and it was lovely to see lots of happy people enjoying themselves. Just wish we had come earlier. Lovely to see Grace again. We both had a very enjoyable day and watched some very clever demonstrations. Lunch was excellent and we joined a very nice couple from Bristol. Think you knew them well, Barbara, as you came over to talk to them. Hope you can now relax.
So what did we like …………………….. everything. Hope to be back for more in November.
Take care.
Having arrived not long after opening to find the make and take places were all gone was very disappointing.
However, I spent an enjoyable day watching the various demos and took home some new ideas to try.
Well what can I say that hasn’t already been said!!
Clive and I had 3 fantastic days, you all put in soooo much of your time to make the open days and workshops fun and enjoyable for everyone.
You are also so generous with your raffle prizes (we were lucky enough to win 2 plus a lovely lucky dip) but what made us laugh was when 2 ladies came up and asked to sit on Clive’s lap 🤣😂
If all goes well we are hoping to do it all again in November!
3 cheers for Barb and her lovely clarity team xxx
I had a wonderful weekend. It certainly helped me distress and forget my worries from a particularly stressful couple of weeks. I love spending time at the workshop with such friendly like minded people and such a a wonderful supportive team. I look forward to the next one. Xx
Thank you to all the team at Clarity for a wonderful day. The demonstrations were so inspirational made me want to get crafting as soon as I got home. I haven’t had a chance to try the foiling yet but looking forward to seeing how it looks. I’ll watch on Friday for more tips and tricks from the lovely Paul. My beautiful raku pot has pride of place in my kitchen. It was good to catch up with yourself and my other Clarity friends. I can’t wait for the Retreat later this year! I know these days are a lot of work for you all but your hard work is fully appreciated by all who attended. Thank you all.
