Day 2 – A Coaster Craftalong
Hi there
Busy day at Clarity Towers today. Had a good meeting with the team, and ticked a load of boxes. Since we are launching brand new, really REALLY useful stamps designed by Jazz, and a new game-changer product this Sunday (invented and made almost entirely by Dave), there is a lot to consider!
- Production,
- Product assembly,
- Packaging,
- Printing,
- Pricing,
- Promotion,
- Photography,
- Presentation
…Like I said, there is a whole can of P’s for a 2-hour TV show! But I am really looking forward to showing you what we’ve come up with. I hope you can join Paul and myself on Sunday 5th January 3-5pm.
I have been thinking about getting into parchment art a little more this year too. I can do it, I know how it works, but I really haven’t had the time to enjoy it in the past, because of P for Pressure at work! But I was at Mum’s the other day, and there, on her dining-room table, was something I made for her yonks ago. So I took a photo of it, to show you, because I remember being so chuffed with it. And here’s the thing: Mum uses it every single day.
Such a simple thing really. A little coaster. No colour either. Just a load of dragonflies and a little whitework – the easy dots that I love doing! I remember making it in such a way – placing the dragonflies in such a way – that it gave me loads of picot cutting opportunities. Anyway, I thought perhaps we could get together one evening, and make one of these coasters together. Would you fancy that? Whether you’re a parcher or not, this is a lovely technique to learn.
Here’s what I used, Tina’s Doodle Flowers – although you just need any shape design that is not too intricate to cut out. See the dragonfly, bottom left? CLICK HERE
But you can use ANY design! It just has to be small enough to be used several times inside a 4×4 inch square (aka Coaster) CLICK HERE.
Anyway, how about a little parchy craftalong one evening soon? 15th January is the week after next. That’s a Wednesday evening. 7pm sound good? Nothing formal, just a casual sweatshirt and slippers affair 😂😂😂😂. But if we plan it for the 15th, that gives you time to order anything you might need, and for us to get it sent to you.
A Starter Kit really is key.
If you want to get into picot cutting, then you need scissors, a two-needle bold tool , or a two-needle fine tool (if you want to go more delicate and advanced) and black super foam. I have to say, the Groovi Guard is a must have too, when you’re doing this picot cutting in between the lines.
If you are going to use the Dragonfly, just like I did, that plate is an A6. So you need a spacer to use the Plate Mate in the Starter Kit. Spacers agogo on the website! It’s the £4.50 ones that work with A6 plates. See this one here? The Butterflies on this little spacer would work great for the coaster too. And it’s only £4.50. Maybe I’ll try this instead. You decide what you want to use anyway. The process will be the same.
Like I said yesterday, if we set ourselves little creative tasks like this one every day, maybe switch it up a bit, sometimes ink, sometimes groovi, sometimes sewing – etc etc etc. – I know I will feel better for it. Think of somebody you’d like to make a coaster for. We don’t have to include the name if it’s long. But it is always nice to make a gift for a special someone.
Reading the messages from you yesterday, clearly I’m not the only one who has lost their mojo. So. let’s tackle it together. I will come up with lots of easy, fun, useful projects for you to try. Put this one in the diary xxx WEDNESDAY 14th January, 7pm. It will take a couple of hours.
One more thing: this kind of cutting practice will come in really handy. And when we launch the new collection of Riche Lieu Lace plates by Linda Williams, YOU WILL BE SO HAPPY! That’s why I want to get my eye in again! I HAVE TO MAKE RICHE LIEU LACE !! You will understand later on in the month…
Love always,
Barb x x x

Love the coaster idea and your blog yesterday also resonated with me as I’m really struggling with everything at the moment. I know losing my mum at the end of October is affecting me and I also had to take the decision to put my little black cat to sleep just before Xmas too. I’m trying so hard to be kind to myself and then both my husband and I were unwell over Christmas and now my eldest daughter and her partner have both come down with this damned flu type virus or whatever it is but so much worse than we had it! Just seems to be one thing after another so my aim is to try to craft something small each day to try and bring my mojo back and to put me in a better place. Thank you Barb and everyone else xxxx
Well, let’s stick together xx
I’m in! Sounds very exciting, what’s coming up! Roche Lieu lace…..never heard of it, will have to google it!!
Me neither ! Off to google too x
You will blinking love it!!!! Xx

Up for that, I think I have everything already! Got the lurgy today so asleep, awake, asleep, awake but it’s only a head cold so nothing dreadful. Can’t wait to see what lovely Dave has come up with ! Sound’s like you nearly p’d yourself today 😹. xxx
Hahaha!! I did!! Every time I cough 😂😂😂😂
That sounds interesting, I have a mini starter Groovi set but never really got into it, I will give it another try🤞
You and me both then! Xxx
P for Pelvic floor exercises then, ladies!! 😂🫣
Another wonderful BLOG.
The coaster is wonderful.
I have not started in parchment art yet. The starter kit is on my list.
I will be there on the 15th so I can learn.
Excited for Sunday’s show.
Thank you to the amazing Clarity Team.
I’ll be there. I need to get back to doing some parching. Life seems to be getting in the way at the moment and now I have the dreaded flu. Like the sound of the Riche Lieu Lace and its my birthday at the end of the month – I wonder what I could have 😉. Xx
Good idea. Let’s get going together xx
Sounds like you had a busy start to the new year but I love a list that you can tick off. The craft along sound great so see you next Wednesday at 7pm. Will sort out the necessary stash to join in – looking forward to it.
Meanwhile we have Sunday – sounds very exciting – a shame Paul wouldn’t let you share some sneaky peeks or information but only 65 hours to wait 😂 & then Linda’s new lace plates later in the month. No doubt a few items will find a home here xx
Sorry I am a week ahead of myself – see you on the 15th !!
Did you see how he stopped me sharing?? I tell you!! I would have….😂😂😂
It was really funny, you tried so hard but Paul was having none of it !!😂😂
Count me in for the dragonflies I have TINA’S 3D FLOWERS GROOVI PLATE and that has the dragonflies on too. Awhile since I’ve done any Groovi. So will be good to get my teeth back into it. Normally save it for when I’m on holiday and I’ve more spare time. xxx
Excellent news. Yes! Use what you’ve got xxx
How right you are, I’ve been hunting for my Mojo since Christmas. I’ve been so busy being a couch potato but today I did a little parching and feel ready to start again. I just need to find my coasters and I’ll be with you. Thanks Barbara, you’ve just given me a kick up the backside 😆😆
Cool. Glad to hear it! Xxx
Will be with you for the coaster session. Have been thinking about making Groovi coasters for Christmas presents this year, in fact am just experimenting with the Club Plate Poinsettia as my first ‘try’, so your Craftalong is perfectly timed for me and will give us all inspiration. Thank you. Pam x
Great news. I look forward to hanging out with you Pam xxx
I’m getting excited! I’m very intrigued to see what Dave has been up to! – Definitely up for some parching, thats something else I’ve neglected.
Will be there could do with practicing my picot cutting.
Looking forward 👌 to some more parching. Unfortunately your evening time is our night time. Will definitely watch it on back up. 👍
Looking forward to the new designs. Love the coaster idea, see you there.
I will be watching. Still got a lot off unpacking to do. The was 15 boxes for kitchen. 12 boxes for front room . 8 boxes for back room . and 54 boxes for craft room not including bookcases. and you think that is a lot . my husband has to empty the loft in the old house . he collects radios. Old Baker light ones . and restores them . but its going to take 4 people to carry the Lancaster bomer radio . Still working with the old values in it.
I had to Google Richelieu lace and I’m in for an evening of parching 😘
I will be there, I love parchment, work, also looking forwards to see what you bring us in the future .
Oh Barb you are echoing my feelings again. It was you that set my craft juices flowing many many moons ago and you still do. So between bouts of fibromyalgia flare ups that leave me exhausted for hours/days/weeks at a time it’s my clarity stash I turn to. Thank you so much for all you do for us all.
Good morning! So looking forward to seeing what Dave has come up with – you are such a creative pair!
I’m not a parcher but I love seeing all the fabulous creations everyone makes. Can we have Tina’s dragonflies back in stamps, please….?!
Onwards & upwards into 2025 xx
Count me in for the 15th (or on catch-up depending where I am).
My daughter, Jane will be 50 in March and loves dragon flies so this coaster will be a perfect extra little gift.
I would possibly want to do a back side too “lots of love Mum & Dad xx”.
Thanks Barb, feeling quite enthused about this (not felt like this for some time – apart from when at the Christmas Workshop with you in Ditton).
Can’t wait to see what your clever Dave has come up with plus Jazz’s new design and to see Linda’s Riches Lieu Lace plates.

Hello Barb, what a beautiful coaster you made for your Mum. I am sure you are going to have plenty of attendees for this craftalong. I can’t wait for the first show of the year, to see what’s new. Take care everyone it is very icy out this morning. Bx
Good afternoon Barb,
What a great idea for parchment coasters. I have spare coasters so good
practice. Looking forward to Sunday show and more delights from
Linda Williams. I am staying indoors, icy and foggy in West Wales today!

Love the coaster but will have to catch up as will be celebrating my big birthday 🥳. I made a coaster as a make and take at the NEC and immediately bought the starter kit. Best decision ever! Looking forward to your shows – so much more enjoyable now xx
Patiently waiting for Sunday & have put 15th in the diary xxx
No mojo. We lost our grandson in November so really struggling. I hope to watch and listen, it might help
So sorry for your loss jeannette .A candle lit here for you .
Sincerely Carmel
It will be lovely to catch up over some groovi so I will be there. I was intrigued by the Richelieu Lace so googled it and boy it brought back memories my dear Mum had made embroidery using a form of white work , I can see how that can adapted to make fabulous parchment designs . In Linda Williams hands just know this is going to be fabulous.
Just read your Blog and definitely going to join in on Wednesday 14th as I’ve not been Grooving for a while and am excited to get cracking again. Thank you Barb and also looking forward to this coming Sunday to see what you’ve all been rustling up. Feeling better already it’s so great to be part of such a lovely crafting family, to belong. X
