And breathe…

And breathe…

Hi there

Thanks for popping in. Just before I settle down to watch our Deb Wheeler on Create & Craft at 1pm and 4pm, I thought I’d just pop in here myself, and say hi. That’s about as much as I can muster today! The week of Clarity Retreats was a success again. Our guests seemed to enjoy the projects, the banter and the company a lot this year. And whilst we shelved a Groovi afternoon in favour of the Brand New Paper Collage Landscape ‘Cottages’, I would say that the overall consensus was favourable. In fact, a few actual Groovi fans even admitted that they thoroughly enjoyed the new challenge. -and a couple even signed up for the next big parchment classroom retreat at the Spa Hotel in October. As I pointed out at the workshops this week, the October Retreat is dedicated entirely to Parchment craft. And now, going forward, the Summer Retreat can be PIP – Paper Ink & Paint – right up my street! (I just made that up by the way!)

On the subject of workshops, our Online Collage Landscape ‘Lighthouse’ has 1 place left before we reach the 100 joiners limit on the current platform! That’s amazing!! And also very encouraging. 99 people have enrolled already! So thank you if you signed up! As the workshop is still 2 months away, I have decided to pay the premium and make more places available. After all, it’s an online experience! Not like we’ve all got to squeeze into a room!

Here‘s what we‘re going to make together,

and here’s where to find out more, and enrol: CLICK HERE

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. If I’m going to keep going, I need to make some changes. An online tutorial-based community ticks a lot of boxes for lots of people, not just me. Last week I listened very carefully to the guests at the retreat. And they all attend for different reasons.

  • Some come to meet up with their friends, who they met last year, or the year before.
  • Some come to improve their crafting skills and learn some new techniques
  • Some come to rekindle their mojo
  • Some come to “get away from it all”
  • Some come to do what they love doing for 2 whole days, with like-minded people
  • Some come to hang out with me!
  • Some come because it’s an annual tradition!

So trust me when I say, I shall be running those retreats until I physically can’t! And even then, there‘s always a way to travel more gently! We used to do 6 days, now we do 4. I love teaching, and I love seeing people get a real kick out of their achievements. That’s the reward for me.

But I also heard a lot of people say that online classes and courses throughout the year were a great idea. That they loved the idea of being ably to hook up remotely, but in a real learning capacity. And yes, of course, there’s the SHAC, and the Moments of Clarity, and The Craftalongs – all FREE. They aren’t going anywhere. I just have to find a way to move CLARITY forward safely.

Ha! And in the time it took to write this blog, the 100th Lighthouse place was reserved ! Like Dave always says to me, “How many signs do you need?”

So I’ve gone ahead and flicked the switch for the upgrade, because I know at least 4 people who want to sign up but haven’t yet! Happy days.

Deb’s doing well on telly with Dean. He’s such a goon! But he makes me laugh out loud. I don’t know if you caught it, but Deb said something along the lines of…

“I’m going to copy this card that Julie Dunn has made”. And in the next breath, Dean -and me at home- both said, “What Julie Dunn done then!” Hahahaha.

If you’re looking for a gallery of lovely artwork from the Design Team of the stamps that Deb and Dean are showcasing on TV today, then head over to our other blog Claritymatters. Click it to travel…There‘s also the weekly Saturday Share, of your own artwork, that Grace has put together for you.

Time to chill. Time to sit in the garden, and take the time to reflect on last week.

Next week will roll around fast enough, right? TV next week again. Thursday, 1pm and 5pm. Then Friday too – 9am and 1pm. So lots of prep and prep. Then more prep!! Very cool products being showcased. I can cope with that happily. It’s the hours stood standing in deep traffic that’s gets to me. Especially the M25 on a Friday. 🙃. Ah well. One Day at a time is all we can do. But if I’d wanted to spend my life on the road, I’d be a long distance truck driver, wouldn’t I. Or an ice-cream van driver. That might be better…

Love always,

Barb x x x

Also I wonder how many of us did the same What Julie Dunn Done! me to out loud although it was in the recording and a few minutes before I started ready your blog. We all have similarities, interesting isn’t it.
Your garden and weather is looking beautiful.
just about to watch Debs and Martyn!
    wonderful.xx

  3. First of all a massive “Thank You” to you and your team for an amazing, creative and enjoyable few days. It was good to meet up with old friends and make new ones along the way. I did admit to you that I wasn’t sure about the collage project, but once completed, I already had ideas of what to do next! So to anyone sitting on the fence about the online project, I would say GO AHEAD YOU WILL LOVE IT !!! Enjoy a quiet and restful weekend Barbara you deserve it.

  5. And some come for all those reasons! Thank you again for two marvellous days. Enjoy a restful weekend, you deserve it. Xx

  6. Your garden is beautiful Barb. Hope you get to relax in it for the next couple of days! Already signed up for the online class, and my kit has come already. In the meantime I’ve been summoned for jury service which I’m feeling a bit anxious about. Your class is on the middle weekend, so it will be a lovely welcome distraction!! So glad the retreats were a success x

  7. Lovely blog ! My online course came this week but haven’t investigated yet need time – been an up and down week but all ok in the scheme of things.

Beautiful day just been for eye test and no change – hurrah ! Cataracts very slow and no problem yet.

Your plans sound good for us . Enjoy the garden xx

  8. So glad the retreats went well for everyone. I would dearly love to attend one. Maybe next year! I hope you’re going to have a good long rest now, going to the wedding and the US. I’m 5 years older than you and I find my energy levels get a bit lower every year. I just can’t fit in all the stuff I used to do. A nice bit of travel and family therapy will be wonderful. I’m really looking forwards to the online class in October, I’ve got the afternoon marked for “no interruptions” on my calendar!

    Sue xx

  9. So pleased that the retreat was a huge success and also the online course is all booked up! Such an encouragement I imagine!

Just got home from a lovely National Trust property visit – fresh air, a lovely walk, beautifully fragranced roses and tasty lunch!

Now to rest, parchment and breathe……ahhhhhh!😎

  10. I’m so glad the retreats went well, you must be exhausted but all the weeks/months of planning really did pay off. I’m also glad to read that you will continue with them as I was slightly concerned that you might decide not to do them any more in favour of the online ones and I attend for all of the above mentioned reasons. Mind you I bet a good few people will do both. Hope you & Dave have a relaxing weekend xxxx

  11. Wonderful retreat and for many reasons. Thank you for your inspiring words to me. Hope you sleep well with the lavender. Xx

  12. Hope you get a very restful weekend after your intense week! So glad you’re adding extra places to the collage workshop – I’m going to sign up!
I have to say I enjoyed doing the shows today – great banter with Dean & Martyn (and great products to work with!)

  13. So pleased for you, Barb, that the online course is proving so popular! I am not surprised, especially after completing the Retreat version! Paper Collaging is great fun and using your method makes it so achievable! Trust in the process, indeed! I go to the Retreats (Open Days) for all the reasons you mention, but also because you inspire and encourage us to be creative and have fun doing it. I am reminded of a quote, (apologies, but I can’t remember who said it or where I read it),
    “Believe in yourself.
You are braver than you think, more talented than you know, and capable of more than you imagine.”
Maybe Dave can make another sign for the next Workshops, with that quote? At the Retreats you certainly help us to believe in ourselves and our capabilities to be creative!
I hope you and Dave have a truly relaxing weekend. You definitely deserve it after the success of this week and all the hard work that went into achieving it. Travel gently and enjoy the creativity! 😊

  14. Congratulations on what sounds like a very successful and busy week! I hope you manage to have a relaxing Sunday, it’s very well deserved I’m sure. x

  15. Glad the week went so well and hope you can now have a couple of days relaxing in your beautiful garden before you start preparing for the tv shows at the end of the week.
My package has arrived for the October workshop, so glad it has had such a great take up. I wonder what the record is for the largest live online workshop!!
I need to catch up with the shows with Deborah but the design team have made some great samples so looking forward to seeing what Deborah did with the stamps x

  16. I had a wonderful time at the retreat. Everyone is so friendly and I learnt a lot. Especial thanks to Deborah Wheeler and Jane Telford who both helped me treat the nasty wasp sting that I got the night before! Looking forward to the Parchment retreat in October.
    Love and hugs
    Yvonne Rissone

  17. Enjoyed Deborah’s shows today, managed to mow the lawns between the shows and do a little gardening. Pleased your retreat week went well, enjoy the rest of the weekend. xx

  18. Enjoyed watching Deborah, good shows. You’ve never come across as a ‘stand still’ type of person who hopes the status quo will suffice. Onwards and upwards.

  19. Beautiful garden in which you and Dave can have a well earned rest. Relax and enjoy.
Glad all went well the last few days and that your on-line classroom is proving so popular. You really do have “something for everyone” at Clarity.
Off now to check on Matters.

  20. Need to wait on my eye appointment before I sign up, in case they tell me I can’t do close work for a while. Love the idea of online workshops though. I could do all of them for the cost of plane, car hire and hotel costs coming from Inverness!!! x

  21. Sounds like everyone had a great time at the retreat and good news about the online workshop being popular. Looking forward to it.
    Take care.

  22. Hi Barb, you need to rest a bit before all the prep for next week. So glad the retreats went so well and everyone is loving the concept of the landscapes and that the online course is so popular. Loved Deb’s shows yesterday, she had me in a fit of giggles with some of the comments she made. Take care everyone. Bx
