Slowly Slowly Swiftly Swiftly…

Slowly Slowly Swiftly Swiftly…

Hi there

Thanks for popping in. Rainy Sunday, so a perfect day for crafting. Pottery this morning. Made a start on the Totem Pole. This could take a while, but hey! Who’s in a rush?? You just need a little vision and a lot of patience…

Oh. And a ruler and pencil…

Remember the sketch? Well, this is the base piece.

That’s 6 hours so far. But who’s counting? It’s a good job I don’t have to make a living from pottery! It really matters not how long this project will take. I am in love with the process, and it takes as long as it takes.

This afternoon I started another project: a lino cut. You can easily see how it works…

Draw a design on tracing paper, then transfer it to the lino.

Add to it…

Start to outline cut.

Next, cut out the background, leaving the images. It helps to shade in the areas you want to leave.

Bit rough. I’m no expert! But I enjoy the process immensely.

Time to pull a print, and take a look at what we’ve got…

Use a brayer to apply ink to the lino printing plate.

Add paper and run it through the press…

Love it!

There’s a lot to still remove and improve, but I like the chatter – a little noise in the background – don’t you? That’s what gives this Swift Landscape that original, organic feel. Just want to tidy the lines, lighten up the sky a little, maybe add a little highlight or two in the swifts. Another hour or so of fine-tuning, but that can be done tomorrow, when the plate is clean and dry again.

All in all a very pleasant, productive Sunday. I hope yours was too.

Quote for the day?

Fall in love with the process, and the results will come.

Eric Thomas

See you in the SHAC tomorrow at 10am! Those vases we’re working on are coming together too.

  1. Sounds like a wonderful day Barbara!
Sadly, mine has involved plumbing in a new washing machine and getting to grips with the technology!!! It has an app!!! I don’t own a phone!! LOL As long as washes my clothes tomorrow I shall be happy!
    See you in the morning.

  2. Sounds like you have had a lovely Sunday crafting & relaxing with your pottery & lino cuts. The first print looks great, it will be interesting to see how the tweaks make a difference. I need to get my artwork sorted for tomorrow’s SHAC – not sure where this week has gone to although we have spent the last couple of days removing ivy from the fence so we can paint it. What started out as something quite straight forward has led to several unexpected jobs like replacing posts that have rotted & removing rotten wood from the rockery that was once was a log feature to hold back the soil. Keeps us out of mischief & hopefully by the time the warmer weather arrives the garden will be tidy. Then we can sit back & enjoy all our hard work.

  3. Wow you have been industrious! I remember doing Lino cuts at school! It was enjoyable but the class wasn’t long enough! The pottery is going well. Will be interesting when you have completed all the shapes! Wonder what colour glaze you will use!

  4. Love seeing how your pottery takes shape, it’s going to be amazing. Great Lino cut too, you are so talented. I will be watching on catch up tomorrow as Michael has an eye test in the morning, so something to look forward to in the afternoon x

  11. You really have had a productive day. It is great when everything comes together.
We had fair weather this morning and I decided to get to grips with the new car. Went for a nice drive through the countryside, hubby sat quietly at my side and almost fell asleep. Still haven’t sorted out all the bells and whistles but don’t need them all anyway.
Where is this year going? The daylight is getting longer and it’s good to have the lighter evenings to craft more.
    Will try to watch tomorrow.

  12. Hope you are also taking some rest Barbara. See you in the morning. Love the pottery, know nothing at about Lino cuts, do I need any specialist equipment?x
