A Love Heart Step-by-Step

A Love Heart Step-by-Step

Hi there.

Thanks for popping in. Yet another beautiful sunny day here today! I was up and out bright and early – off to pottery! Finessed my butter dish, and started on a pressie for a friend…

Look who was in the studio too! Yep. Cesslan, from the Pottery Throwdown. Such a nice fella, and such a talented potter AND woodturner too. I personally thought his raku teaset was pretty epic last week. Such exquisite work. He was making a vase for his girlfriend for Valentines today. Ahhhh… young love….Follow him on Instagram @_cellan_

Since we’re having a sale… Here’s another fab step-by-step project from the archives. Let’s focus on the LOVE Heart stamp set that we doodled together in the SHAC SHAC. It also comes as a Groovi Plate.

At half price, this is definitely the ideal time to take advantage – especially as we are offering you fab step-by-step inspiration projects in addition. Today I thought a stamping step-by-step would be cool.

My good and very talented friend Dee Paramour created a lovely piece of stamp art using these doodle stamps. Just take a look at this!

Dee used one of the Designer Paper pads that she actually designed: Brighton Rock, but I haven’t got Brighton Rock here in my art room. So I decided to recreate the same card using another one of Dee’s lovely paper pads : New England Fall. It will be fun to see how different the piece looks using different papers. Let’s dive in!

Ingredients
SHAC Love Heart Stamp & Mask Set (STA-LO-11036-A5)
Brighton Rock Designer Paper (ACC-CA-30440-88)
OR New England Fall Designer Paper (ACC-CA-30441-88)
8×8 White Card Blanks (ACC-CA-30620-88)
Spiced Marmalade Distress Ink Pad (INK-DP-50103-XX)
Mustard Seed Distress Ink Pad (INK-DP-50089-XX)
WOW Gold Embossing Powder (ACC-EM-30468-XX)
WOW Copper Embossing Powder (ACC-EM-30468-XX)

Wow Heat Tool (MIS-EM-60156-XX)
Stencil Brushes (ACC-BR-30006-XX)
OR Makeup Sponges (ACC-MG-30537-XX)
Artistry Ink Blending Tool (INK-AT-50229-XX)
Blending Mat (ACC-MS-30214-XX)
Roll-a-Tape Glue Runner (ACC-MS-31065-XX)

Versamark Ink Pad

Method

Step 1.
Tear a piece of the designer paper in two. One wide enough to take the whole stamp and one about 2 inches wide.

Step 2.
Stamp the love heart towards the top of the larger piece on the darker side of the paper, using a Versa mark ink pad. Heat emboss using a heat gun with Wow Copper Embossing Powder. We sell the WOW heat tool – I love them. Two speed and ergonomic. Good price too.

Step 3.
Stamp the love heart again, this time on the lighter side of the narrower piece. Line it up with the other piece beforehand. This time use WOW Gold embossing powder. Place the narrow piece over the wider piece, line up and trim top and bottom if necessary. .

Step 4.
Fix the heart mask over the large copper heart stamped image, and brush a dark orange ink around the heart. I used a stencil brush and Spiced Marmalade. Repeat on the narrow strip.

Step 5.
Cut two 2inch strips from the same paper. This is for either side. Repeat stamp the small open heart all over the strips (in Spiced Marmalade) and then fill them with the pattern hearts using Mustard Seed ink – a bright yellow colour.

Step 5.
Stamp the word LOVE outline stamp onto a piece of torn paper, using the Spiced Marmalade again.
Once it is dry, stamp the LOVE word INFILL into the stamped line art using a Versa mark ink pad.
Apply gold powder to a couple of areas and tap off the excess. Apply copper to the remaining areas, and heat set using the heat tool again.

Step 6.
Blend Spiced Marmalade around all the edges of all the pieces of paper, using a blending tool.

Step 7.
Assembly time! Fix the 2 side-panels to an 8×8 inch white card blank with our glue runner.
Then comes the large copper heart piece, then the narrow gold heart piece on top.

… and finally the two-tone LOVE underneath. Ta-da!!

Thanks Dee. I thoroughly enjoyed that!! I do like the illusion with the panel. And I love both colour variations! Those little matching heart stamps in the set speak to me too.

Time to think about the SHAC tomorrow at 10. Get ahead of the curve…Or shall I get up early and look at it with a fresh pair of eyes? Decision made. Log fire and The Pottery Throwdown it is then!!

Stay safe.

Love and Hugs

  3. The date at the top threw me so just catching up with the blog, missed it last night for some reason. Will have to catch up with the SHAC later as my car has to go in for its MOT. OH had booked it before telling me the date.
Another great step by step with the embossing powders – must admit haven’t used them much of late but will dig them out as I love watching the process of them changing.
