I’m hooked.

I’m hooked.

Hi there.

Thanks for popping in. You know how sometimes you are making something, be it a card or a canvas, a doodle or a painting, and it hooks you, to the exclusion of everything else. It draws you in and you are completely oblivious to the world around you. You realise that it’s going to take a lot longer than you’ve got, that you’ve got a million other pressing things to do – but you can’t stop. You have to finish it.

Well, that’s me right now. This afternoon I started prepping ahead for the SHAC-Shack tomorrow morning, so that we could move to the next stage of our houses doodles. I thought I’d pen the houses onto buff paper and designer paper, so that you could decide which direction you wanted to take. Did that quickly and efficiently, with the aid of a lightwave. Then came the colour.

And what can I tell you? 4 hours later, and I’m right in the middle of the houses, colouring, doodling, titivating, spoiling, repairing, rebuilding, adding snow, adding more snow. Regretting I added too much snow….

Here’s where I’m at.

Still got loads to do, but not the hours to play. Bummed. However, mission accomplished. Got loads of tips and tricks to share in the SHAC-Shac tomorrow. And that was actually my objective. So I have to wriggle off the hook and let it go. One day, when I retire (ho ho ho), I shall be able to do art for art’s sake. I look forward to that.

Hey!! I even wove it into a blog, so that I could colour in for an hour longer. Honestly, I could stay up all night and finish this little picture. But tomorrow won’t thank me for it.

I bet you know EXACTLY where I’m at, don’t you.

Stay safe

Love always

  1. So looking forward to the SHACK tomorrow – this looks wonderful. Wonder how much the house prices are in that area? 💕💕💕

  2. Oh Barbara, I know exactly how you feel! I too cannot stop doodling those little houses – it is thoroughly addictive! To be honest, I only stopped because my husband was wondering if he was getting any dinner!! Hehe! I love your artwork – perfect!! xxx

  3. I love it Barbara, shows every minute you spent on it. See you in the morning……still watching, eye not healed enough to see straight yet. Loving this doodling style….as always.

  4. Love it can’t wait xx I would be the same once I start don’t know when to stop keep saying just one more bit and then 2 hours later still going lol xx see you tomorrow morning xx

  5. Yeah…but it’s great though – isn’t it?
    love
Maggie (Bendy Yorkite) – 68 tomorrow – me, not Bendycat.
(In cat years it’s probably eleventy-twelve-ish)

  6. I know what you mean, as I have been the same with the doodle from last week. I have been trying the idea on lots of different papers and can’t stop! 😳 I think my pens and posca will run out any time now. Can’t wait for tomorrow’s SHAC.
Just a question – I know you are busy, but would it be possible to stay together for the 2 minute silence at 11am? It would mean a lot to share it with our friends.
See you in the morning. Hugs. Annette. X

    1. I have just thought about it and realised that you will not want everyone to be watching you, so it probably won’t work. Sorry. X

  7. I loved doing this after work, yesterday. In fact whilst having our early morning meeting today out came a piece of paper and pen and a small town was drawn (just don’t tell the boss).

  8. Hi Barbara this is gorgeous I love it. I am going to have to catch up with all this creativity at the weekend. I am still working this week. Next week I will be home and ready to join in. I am missing the Shac Shack. Anyway enjoy your evening. The pussycats are gorgeous. Take care. Hugs xxx

  9. For various reasons I was without power this morning, and suddenly felt at a loss, couldn’t even have the radio on… and then “I could doodle some more houses” thought I, so I did.
It was great to know that I could take my time, as there was nothing else I could do! So pleased with the results. Transferred onto dark buff using my lightwave.
    Thank you Barb 🙂

  10. That’s lovely, Barb. I really must finish my houses now before tomorrow! I’ve got caught up in die cuts this week, new ones that I did yesterday and some of the ones you gave me to take home with me when we were in Glasgow. thought it was time I made them into cards! No point in rushing into things. Lol. Glad you had a bit of an escape today! See you in the morning. Hxx

  11. Beautiful, I had to do another card today, can’t believe so many birthdays last month and this month and next the same plus Christmas ! Definitely going to do some more of the houses – love them, have been wondering about the lights and whether it’s going to be too crowded but will give it a go – look forward to tomorrow. The kitties are adorable x x

  12. They look brilliant. Lost my mojo somewhere along the way, think it has gone into lockdown. I keep trying but can’t settle to anything for any length of time. Need to pull myself together and do some of the fabulous artwork I am seeing. x

  13. I have just thought about it and realised that you will not want everyone to be watching you, so it probably won’t work. Sorry. X

  14. Know exactly where you’re at.
Had 2 very special birthday cards to make and thought I would get them started then take my time with embossing and finishing. Having decided on the colour schemes and chosen the background papers and co-ordinating parchment I got all the necessary plates and dies out, gathered the required tools together, set up the table with the Gemini and a guillotine and went to make a coffee. Then I decided to trace the frames and do some die cutting, no more.
Several hours later I have one completed card and one with just a bit of finishing and assembling. Where did the time go?
Hubby made me stop for dinner or the second card would be finished too.
I’m still catching up on the SHAC shack and the Groovi shack – whoever thought retirement would be so busy?
Thank you for being there for us in these trying times. You are a life saver.
    Stay safe 🍒

  15. Loving the look of your houses, can’t wait to see how you achieved it. I am hoping to be back from an emergency dentist appointment in time for 10am SHAC Shack. Nothing too major just a crown with peg to be stuck back in – hopefully !!
I have an OH who cooks – great find !!
See you in the morning x

  16. House in turmoil (decorating kitchen/diner which is my craft room too) so was going to titivate houses tonight but then got distracted with Groovi and that was the end of that 😂😂

  17. Hello Barb, what a lovely little picture. I have not had opportunity lately to join the SHAC Shac, so have not even begun with the house doodles, but I hope that when I do get time to catch up, that I can maybe create something lovely like yours (and everyone elses that I have seen on FB!). Take care and stay safe everyone. Bx

  18. Loving these doodle houses and yes very addictive. Looking forward to today in the Shac Shack. You manage to get us all going when the going gets tough! Thank you Barb xx
