To thine own self be true

To thine own self be true

Hi there.

Thanks for popping in. Friday’s Blog a private peek, remember? Thought I’d dig a little deeper this afternoon, and take a closer look at those word stickers of mine. There’s a lot more to them than meets the eye.

The very first saying at the very top of the first sheet is ONE DAY AT A TIME. I must say that to myself at least a dozen times a day… It’s the only way forward right now, don’t you agree?

The next sticker on the same page is SEEK SWEETNESS AND WISDOM. Well, now there’s a powerful and positive intention! Probably why I don’t follow the news anymore ; no sweetness or wisdom there! All I see is corruption and bull. And it’s getting worse.

The stickers speak my language – probably because I composed them!

BE KIND.

BE PATIENT.

WE HAVE GOOD DAYS AND GROWING DAYS….

On the third line is the one. The one which calls to me more and more with each passing day:

TO THINE OWN SELF BE TRUE.

But what does that phrase mean to you? It can mean several things to me. Firstly, it signifies that I have to be honest and speak my truth. It also means that I should never tire of doing the right thing. But to me it also means that if I am straight and I always do as I should, then I will find myself easier to handle. And since I live with myself, I think that’s important.

Conversely, if I lied and connived my way through life, I dare say I would find it harder to live with myself – provided I have scruples and some kind of moral compass of course.

You see, I can’t control anybody else, and I don’t intend to try, or even waste precious energy getting frustrated at corrupt politicians and the like. What for? Do you think they give a damn what I think? Or YOU think? Nah.

Yes. So back to the sticker booklet. It may look like a simple little crafting accessory, but actually, one phrase at a time, it spells out my personal code for living. I like to take a sticker a day, put it somewhere visible – and cogitate.

If you are interested in this little booklet, click here. Who knows? They may prove useful to you too, and not just as a craft accessory.

Love and hugs

Barb xx

  1. Very wise words. No good watching the news as we just shout at the Telly and it’s no good for either of us. Have a good week with your parents, sending all good wishes to your Mum and waiting to hear your Dad’s wise words through the week. Have a good weekend too. Thanks for all you do for us XX

  2. I love everyone of these stickers and love them.
If more people lived true to them selves I think the world would d be a far better place.

  3. I like those word stickers and so easy to use.
Hope the operation will go well for your mum and see will be at home again very soon.
Take care of yourself too Barbara!!!
The weeks in the Shac and the jubileum were so very busy for you!!!
Love all the things we did in the Shac and learned a lot from you and they were very relaxing hours!!!!
Take care and healing prayers for your mum!!!💝👼🍀🌹

  4. What a good idea, I’m going to take a Shac Shack saying sticker each day and place in a prominent position to remind me that we are all in this together!! Take care Barbara and Dave in the coming week. Hope all goes well with your Mum AND Dad. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. Hope you manage to relax at some stage. I’ll look forward to your daily blog

  5. Wise words, as always. I have had a big down blip this week, but clawing my way back up…your words about letting go of what we cannot control have resonated, and i have lived one hour at a time. Like Captain Tom said…tomorrow will be better, and I stop living in fear…
Much love to all the family next week, especially Mum, but also all who support her, xx

  6. Dear Barbara. Have so enjoyed listening to you on Shac shack. It will do you good to have a break. Hope all goes well for your Mum, sending prayers and good wishes, also to your Dad. They are lucky to have you near. My daughter leaves on Sunday to go back to Singapore, do hate the goodbyes.
There are some wonderful words in your stickers, need you think of a few of those in the next few days. My son Michael has sent photos of the smoke in California, he said it’s been like night time at 10am in Danville. Must get my order in for those lovely poppets . Xxxxx

  7. What a wonderful, honest blog. Truly inspiring Barbara. Have a good rest next week, we will be waiting patient ly for you. Hope that all goes very well for your mum, hips are so so successful these days. Take care and thanks for the wisdom and the laughs and the tricks for doodling ♥

  8. I love your little epithets, Leonie’s too. So right for these days. I learned a long time ago that lying is too much trouble, you have to remember what you lied about etc. Far easier to try and tell the truth always, that way I can remember better.
I see from my diary it would have been the Leyburn Open day tomorrow, are we having some giveaways on the hour? (please)
    Love
    Maggie (Bendy Yorkite)

  9. I think you might be glad not to be in the Shac Shack next week as an Indian summer is on the horizon. I hope everything goes well with your mum I will be thinking about you all. May I say how very elegant your hair looked today? It was my first chance to visit the Shack this week due to work & I thought how very Audrey Hepburn. I love it! I will be playing catch up next week & playing with my new goodies. Please stay safe and enjoy your weekend xxxx

  10. Evening Barbara. I love these sticker books. All of them cover every type of event or situation. And they are fab for adding to a card or a journal page and work well on both. Or stick it on a phone case or mirror just to remind yourself of a phrase for the day.
The phrase you’ve chosen to me means that you can’t lie to yourself and therefore you do the right thing.
I hope you’re mum’s op goes well next week and that she is soon home to really get better from it. And I hope your dad copes OK whilst she’s in hospital. But he’ll have you to support him.
Have a relaxing evening and weekend.
    Love and hugs Xxxx

  11. To thine own self be true – what wise words. I have your sticker books and can hear your voice when I read some of them.
Still trying to catch up with the SHAC shack, it’s been a busy day as I suddenly decided to empty the two tallboys and have a sort out. Made lots of room – surprising what we keep that we don’t really need.
From previous comments I understand you are having some time off to be with your mum and dad. Good for you. Do hope all goes well with the operation, it will give her a new lease of life. My friend who is now 84 is skipping around like a 15 year old after her op. It is joyful to see her so happy.
Enjoy your break, we will be thinking of you.
    Stay safe 🍒🍒🍒

Enjoy your days with your parents this coming week, you are such a lovely family the way you all rally around. Enjoyed our flower doodles this week especially the gems, still need to practise though. Thank you for all your teaching. Love & hugs for next week.xxx

  15. I hope everything goes well for your mum. I’m glad you are prioritising your parents. I need a whole pack of good days and growing days!

  17. I have these stickers, others and Leonie’s too. I use them and sometimes just read through them out of interest and enjoyment. A dabble in inspiration never goes amiss! Hope all goes well with your Mum. Our daily get togethers are much enjoyed and appreciated although I often have to watch later rather than live. Thank you so muchly!

  18. Hello Barb, I have these stickers, and they are wonderful. Like you I sometimes just read through them, and pick one for that particular day. So thank you for putting the pack together. Take care and stay safe everyone. Bx

  19. I think if you can go to bed knowing that you spent the day doing the right thing, that you treated everyone you had contact with in the way you would like them to treat you, you will sleep safe in the knowledge that you spent the day doing good things for your own soul and the world at large. Lately I’m not sure how many people can say that. XX

  20. Thank you for you’re time spent with us. Good luck to you’re Mum and Dad, and love to the family. We will be Ok next week, will look for things that didn’t go well, and re do them. Try to get some rest in for you also. My Whimsy Poppets arrived yesterday, of to practise my colouring and Grovi skills Xx

  21. Great sticker sentiments and you are right about not watching too much about present political shenanigans and hope everything goes well for your Mum with her operation, and being there for them is the most important thing. x
