Mele Kalikimaka!

Mele Kalikimaka!

Hi there.

Hope you are enjoying your weekend? I’ve been hanging out in Hawaii in my head, which is just great. Inking and doodling and colouring. So glad we are staying a second week.

This doodle week has been a mammoth one! On the one hand perhaps we could have gone with just one photo, and kept it simple. But on the other hand, we had such blast, drew loads of new things, hibiscus, surf shacks, surfers, bamboo – and next stop hula girls! I think tomorrow will be fun. I’ve had a proper giggle getting set for tomorrow. Grass skirts are easy; it’s the hula girls who wear them that are the challenge! And in case you were thinking you could dress a carrot up. Nah. Tried that. But we could give it a go tomorrow…

TOP TIP: If you have some tracing paper (parchment?) and a lightwave, it will certainly help you draw three the same!

Anyway, I wanted to get you in the mood, so I dug out a wonderful old tune which I’ve been humming since we got to Hawaii! And there are pics of beautiful Hula Girls all through, to inspire us…

I give you Mele Kalikimaka by Bing Crosby.

And on that wonderful note, I shall love you and leave you.

A demain.

Love always

Barb xxx

WHich one do you want to be? Left? Right or Centre?

  12. If it’s ok with you Barb, I’ll stick to my Hawaiian shirts – never looked good in a grass skirt, haven’t got the knees to carry it off! Loved Bing’s song, put me in a very festive Christmassy frame of mind, perfect for a Sunday evening! Looking forward to another week in sunny Hawaii, more doodling, more stories, and more calming SHAC Shack!

  13. Evening Barbara,
Wow what a challenge that is going to be, still struggling with the carrot people! Will certainly give it a try but might have to make do with a ukulele and a pair of fancy flip flops. Thanks so much for all your tuition my drawing much improved. Will we be using the watercolour pencils shortly? See you tomorrow. X

  14. Looks like you’re going to gave another great week in the SHAC shack. I’m still at work full time, so no chance to join you, but hoping I may be finished at the end of next month, and can then have another try at retiring! It’s fantastic that you’re releasing so many of the doodles as stamp sets (and so a good job I did go back to work to pay for them all!) Will be watching everyone’s posts with interest

  15. Wonderful blog, 🏝 from the heart as always, I love the Bing Crosby tune too, thank you for all your hard work x

  16. Since the beginning of the week I have been singing “On the beach at Waikiki”. When I was a child my parents had an LP of songs from Hawaii and this is the only one I can remember….The version I have in my head is sung by Burl Ives….and if you look it up and wonder what the phrase means..”Oone kauha wiki wiki” means “kiss me quick” apparently….

  17. Lol. Looking forward to tomorrow! See you in the morning. Will have a couple of days this week where I need to catch up but I’ll be there tomorrow. Glad you have had a good weekend. Hx

  18. Lovely cheerful song, always loved Bing Crosby. Forgot to put my Aloha on when I redid my scene last night, but managed to get it in. Hope you’ve had a good day, we didn’t even get a walk, just as we were about to,, coats on ready to go, got to the gate and down came the rain, so came back in and made a nice cup of tea. See you at 10 tomorrow.xxx

  19. Not up to Hawaii yet, still finishing some others, so it will be interesting to see what you have done. Will these be doodle stamps too? Hope so.
Much cooler today, yippee, hands not destroying parchment as I work.
Hubby fixed the colour printer today so have printed the Groovi shack projects again. Hard to decide which to do first so perhaps I should start at the beginning 🤷‍♀️ they are all lovely.
    Have a lovely evening. 🍒🍒🍒

  20. I’ll steer clear of the grass skirt thanks – think I’ll have to be the lady behind the guitar with a long dress on. My lockdown figure is definitely not beach ready!!! 😂

  21. On the right I think. It’s all the Elvis songs from Blue Hawaii that have been going round my head. Looking forward to another week in Hawaii. Glad to hear you’ve been giggling Barb, take care, see you in the shac shac in the morning xx

  22. So looking forward to tomorrow. Today, I decided to rewatch the first 3 classes you did in the SHAC and wow, how far everyone has come since then. It is amazing how it just all evolved to where we are today. Thanks so much for all your hard work and keeping everyone smiling and giggling as we listen to you. See you tomorrow. Hugs from Canada 🇨🇦

  23. Really learned so much since joining the Shac Shackers. Every day’s a school day, just a bit too early to start celebrating Christmas for me 😂😂

  24. A giggle is always good – see you in the SHAC Shack tomorrow at 10 to see what you have lined up for our 3rd postcard. Then we need to add colour & shadows to make it all pop – looking forward to it.

  25. Another challenge and a lot of laughter, can’t wait to join in this morning at 10 Monday 29th. Lots of love xxxx

  26. Hi Barb, you have certainly struck the right chord with the doodling, I have been watching some back, and wow what great inspiration and banter. Looking forward to week 2 of Hawaii. Thanks for sharing the song, and to all those posting on Clarity worldwide, all I can say is WOW. Take care and stay safe everyone. Bx

  27. Hi Barb,
Sorry this is very late – dreaded migraine struck yesterday! I am in awe in what some people have done in the SHAC. Love the Bing Crosby song – sounds more exotic than Merry Christmas! I’m the woman next to the door on the right (as you look at it) with the ukulele!! Hope she can play it better than me! Love and hugs,Alison xxx

  28. My parents had that Bing Crosby Christmas Album! I remember listening to that song a lot when I was growing up, and not just at Christmastime! It does have a very catchy tune. I’m really enjoying my time in Hawaii. Thanks for all of your tips and tricks.
