On the move….

On the move….

Hi there,

Thanks for popping in. Been a beautiful day in Leiden. Walked miles, found lots of lovely Christmas gifts, and even managed to squeeze my tired self into a few nice dresses! It was very heartening to visit these many tidy little boutiques, filled with original and unique gear. It was also very refreshing to meet the owners, mostly women. Super friendly, very pleasant energy, all really switched on and into good conversation. And the cynic may say they are just courting you. But then I know plenty of English shopkeepers who could do with a lesson in courting !

We went on a boat trip around the town which was great, and sat in the sun drinking coffee. November! I ask you!

I could definitely live here. The pace of life and the vibe is right up my street. Sell the car, buy a bike and go! Never seen so many bikes! Bikes, boats and boutiques. Perfect.

Dave and I have had quite a chuckle with the Dutch language. Good job the Dutch speak such good English!

Stripwinkle Dumpie clearly decided to relocate….

Found a much better spot then!

…and this one in front of a shop.. well, I nearly fell in the canal laughing! Now my German half lets me know what this actually says : You Can Also Collect from us. i.e takeaway.  But my English half sees something completely different. And Dave doesn’t even  have a German half…

And on that note, I shall love you and leave you.

Till tomorrow xxxx

Barb

  1. No German half here either, so read it as I saw it. !!!! All sounds wonderful there though, when I was in Holland I was lucky enough to be with a friend who was half Dutch. Language problem solved. Hope you bought a few of those dresses as well. Always lovely to find originals. xx

  2. Well I say! Good job you know the lingo. Glad you are having time to enjoy yourself, you need a bit of time after your hectic times recently. Xx

  3. Evening bloggy friends, another week gone…another week closer to the ‘C’ word! Haven’t even thought about starting my cards yet, although the new make a wish bunnies might be making an appearance. Xx

    1. Hi Donna – yes that time of year is fast approaching! Enjoy making your cards. Love and hugs to you and Phoebe, Gilly xx

  5. Oo’er missus!! No German half here either!! Lol.
Glad you are enjoying yourselves and like Lynne said, I hope you bought one or two of those original dresses? Xx

  6. Hello Barbara – you really make me laugh with your sense of humour. A very Alley McBeal moment (did you watch that show?) Brilliant, read it as it was written, priceless. Just told hubby that we are going to do as you suggested yesterday, overnight ferry to Holland, never been, and what better way to go than it being recommended. I trust your judgement Barbara. Enjoy the rest of your break, lots of love Donna X

  7. So glad you are enjoying your break on the continent. It all looks great. Had a giggle at the sign – read it as written.
Had a fab day with my new Groovi goodies which arrived today, the last of my recent spendathon.
Also good – we had a phone call from the hospital – the CT scan on hubby was clear – no cancer. What a relief.
    Have a safe journey home.

  8. I nearly swallowed the lime from my Friday G&T! You do make me laugh. Sounds like a beautiful place and right up my street, although last time I rode a bike (well, tried to!) it was a disaster and I quickly gave up.
It beats where I live, a real ‘need a car’ town, hands down.
Have a good trip home and a lovely weekend. Annette X

  9. Hi Barb! Thanks for sharing your day with us all, and giving us a laugh! Just what I need today.
Keep enjoying yourselves – it sounds a wonderful place to visit and I shall put it on my bucket list too.
Safe journey home, love and hugs to you and Dave, Gilly xxx

    1. Hi bloggy friends – I hope that your weather is not as bad as it is here. We ventured over towards the north coast today, as I wanted to visit the factory shop of Celtic & Co. They have been making wonderful boots in Cornwall for the last 28 years. They registered the ‘Ugg’ trademark originally.
I have bought a shortie version in ‘Beetroot’ – they are lovely. I tried on a pair in black first & then tried on the beetroot. I walked over to the mirror and a lovely couple both said – buy those, not the black. They look great! So I did! They really made my day and I felt wonderful. So much needed, as Neill – bless him – is going through a very bad phase at the moment. Love and hugs to you all, Gilly xxx

      1. Hi Gilly,
Your boots sound lovely and you deserve a treat. Sorry to hear that Neill is having a rough time. Give him a hug from me. Sending you both love and hugs, Alison xxxx

        1. Thanks for your good wishes. Sorry to hear Neill is going through a bad time. It must be such a worry for you. The ‘beetroot boots’ sound wonderful,so pleased you found something to cheer you up.
          Hugs, Cherry

  13. Glad you are both enjoying your break. Sounds and looks a lovely place. Hope you bought at least one of those dresses in the boutique. You’ll only kick yourself if you come home without one. Don’t think I’d be safe on a bike now, haven’t been on one for years. Love the signs, you do make us smile.xxx

  14. Hi Barb,
Oh you are so funny! I can just imagine you and Dave reading that. Isn’t know any Dutch or German so read it as I saw it! Leiden looks lovely and I hope you bought some of those dresses. I’m definitely not safe to be let loose on a bike these days which is a shame as I only bought a new bike the summer before my little accident and managed to fall off it the first time I tried to ride it. Have a safe journey home. Love and hugs Alison xxx
