Kinky Capers!

Kinky Capers!

Hi there!

Good of you to join us here in Leiden on our last day. We have walked miles! The sun is warm, the church bells are dingle ringing, the locals are cycle biking along the cobbled lanes, and I really cannot think of a more romantic place.

The colours of the hedges and trees are spectacular!

(Spot the new gloves. They match the hedge!)

Still had a chuckle with the shop signs. This one caught my attention. Oooh, I thought, is this a bit of Amsterdam spilling over into Leiden? A little hanky panky? A little bit of slutty smut behind the door?

Come on! Back me up here! Who sees Kinky Capers? Precisely. How wrong we are! It’s a hairdressers!

And this beautiful, iconic, historical building from 1450 (yep, 1450) is where we have been staying. Bang in the centre of town. Our room spans the entire building. The 3 windows on the second floor, that’s us!

I can’t wait to get home and get arty with our Claritystamp wee houses and wee shops! They were modelled after these houses by Jim, and they are so accurate! Click here to investigate….

Time to pack and head over to the Hook van Holland Ferry . I hope you enjoyed our little break here. Honestly, Twas much needed after the week’s QVC pressure. The thought always seems worse than the deed with German TV shows. Honestly, when you get here, the staff at QVC couldn’t be lovelier. I just put so much pressure on myself – but there is a lot at stake. Much bigger numbers, much greater units. And I suppose if you want to play with the big boys, then pressure is par for the course. My choice. Just glad I was able to spend some quality time with Dave on his birthday.

See you on the other side!

Love and hugs,

Barb

  1. Ohh I have loved following your short break
Made me laugh a few times
The colour in the leaves is just amazing, talking about leaves I found myself picking up some lovely ones in Doncaster town centre after watching you create a stamped masterpiece on you leaf 🍁
And yep I saw what you saw in the hairdressers window.
    Safe journey home 🏠
    Hugs 🤗

  2. Beautiful colours on those leaves and I love the gloves. So pleased that it has been a worthwhile and relaxing trip. Safe journey home. Xxxxx

  3. It’s been a sunny day here to loving the treesdo love acres trees specially the red love the tree colours here to this time of year yellow reds golds just love it. So pleased you had a wonderful break after a busy few weeks safe travelling home love joy

  4. I love the colours of Autumn and the sight of the pyracantha and acer made me cry – we left so many beautiful plants and trees like these behind when we moved to Norfolk. This garden just isn’t big enough to replant.
Had a laugh at the shop sign though – could it be translated as ‘permed heads’?
I’ve had some fun with the wee houses and shops making ‘New Home’ cards as a lot of houses round here changed hands recently. Something to do with school placements I think.
Glad you have enjoyed your break with Dave, you both work so hard you deserve it. Thanks for keeping us up to date with your journey and we wish you a safe trip home.

  5. It definitely says kinky capers, and it’s a hairdresser! Which makes you wonder what a shop that actually sells kinky capers would be called…. Glad you have enjoyed your visit. The colours of the berries and trees were beautiful. Xx

  6. So Nice that you are able to take some days off to recharge. Onfortunately I put pressure om myself too. I hope we soon will learn how to take it more calmly, NOT meaning less professionally, but more relaxed. X Pia

  7. Lovely photos, your room use have been magnificent ! I can definitely see Kinky Capers too ! While I’ve been back at work I’ve seen the tree outside my office turn to red like the one in your photo. I saw it planted as a ‘twig’ as it’s in remembrance of a student and it’s now a beautiful tree. These are the things I will miss now I’m back to retirement tomorrow ! X

  8. Hi Barb,
What a beautiful place to stay and you’re right the Wee Houses are exactly right. The trees are such beautiful colours too – I love Autumn. On the road to Durham, there are one beautiful trees near to the entrance to Burn Hall – used to be a monks’ seminary I believe- and they have been spectacular this Autumn. However, in two days, nearly all of the leaves have gone and they look quite forlorn now. I’m really pleased that you have managed to spend some real quality time with Dave – it will have done you both good. Have a safe journey home, love and hugs,Alison xxxxx

    1. Hi bloggy friends,
Hope the weather hasn’t been too bad for you – it’s actually been quite nice here for most of the day. Been trying to get more Christmas cards done today, I’m slowly getting there. Sending love and hugs to you all, Alison xxx

  10. Hi Barbara
It’s been lovely to hear about your break away with Dave. I don’t get out that much so to hear about what you get up to is just delightful.
Loved the Kinki Capers shop – you say it’s a hairdressers, but you never know what Kinki Capers they might get up to round the back.
I hope you have a safe and pleasant journey home.
    Take care
    Love

  11. Hi Barbara
I forgot to say, I saw those amazing faces in the sand in remembrance of the end of the war and all those who died and I thought that they were just amazing. Lots of people went to the beach and they were given the chance to add a soldier using a stencil. It was such a heartwarming idea.
Mind you I must admit I shed a tear or two when the tide came in and the faces and soldiers were slowly washed out to sea. But I suppose that was the reaction that Danny Boyle was hoping to get.
