Happy Day for the Big Day

Happy Day for the Big Day

Hi there.
Thanks for popping in.
Back in Blighty again, and although I was sad to leave Gracie,
it was good to get back to Dave, too.
I do love NEW YORK though.
There’s a kind of strong, powerful energy surging through its streets, and I enjoy getting swept up in it.
And I find the New Yorkers very pleasant too.
Now many years ago, back in the 90’s I remember feeling very intimidated, almost fearful, in New York. Yet now I love it!
So has New York changed? Or have I?
We met this lovely lady, Sylvia, whilst out shopping on Monday.
She works in the Weddings Department at Macy’s in New York.
Has done for many many years.
She’s 84 years old and blimming amazing!
What a character.
She has her own blog and has written and published several novels!
Once I have unpacked and settled down, I think we should visit her in Blogland, don’t you?
She helped us pick the dress. THE DRESS.
It was the first one I tried on, and it was just perfect.
No need to make any adjustments, nothing.
No need to keep looking, said I.
It won’t get any better than this.
All sorted in less than half an hour.
It’s white, it’s beautiful, and it’s hanging in the closet upstairs!
Didn’t take long to find one for bridesmaid Grace either.
A beautiful dusty pink lace. She looks like a million dollars in it.

Big box ticked on that particular list!
Must dash. Maria’s on the box!!!
Love & Hugs

  1. I am glad that you have found your dress and one for Grace too.
I have been out for lunch with a very good friend where we shared crafting ideas and supplies.
Tonight I am going to another friends home for an evening of crafting and chatting. Sometimes there is more chat than crafting, but it is so much fun!

  2. It’s funny how you know you got right dress as soon as you try it on and first one wow in half hour that’s good going, Remember going to look at wedding dresses with out daughters Rebecca when she put on dresses was alright then she but one oni was in floods of tears she said this is the one it made mum cry she looked so beautiful in it just could hold back the tears my first baby getting married big moment. Looking forward to seeing the pictures of your wedding lace looks beautiful and Graces dress look beautiful too xxx

  3. Welcome home Barbara! Wow it's all exciting with the wedding dress now bought! Lace looks lovely too!
Maria did a fantastic job as always. She is a real inspiration.
Have a relaxing evening with Dave!

  4. Can’t wait to see photos of you wearing The Dress. I’ve still got mine in it’s box where it has remained for almost 32 years and was so disappointed when clearing Mum’s house that she had not kept hers – they married in December 1953 when things were still scarce and being thrifty and not caring to waste the heavy patterned silk, she had her dressmaker remove the train and long-sleeved bodice and replace the bodice with a very much in vogue halter-top made from the said train. She wore it for a few years as an evening gown until it went out of fashion. I wore the same dress in the late ‘70s’ to a variety of different occasions – hence my attachment to the garment. Just hope where it went, it was appreciated and that she did not consign it to the bin! ;~}

  5. Great to hear you’ve got the right dress, I do hope it’s not that minimalist one you showed us earlier, Dave would have a heart attack seeing you come down the aisle in that. Knowing you you’ve got something more tasteful. Can’t wait to see pictures of you in it. I love a wedding.

  6. How exciting now you have THE DRESS. Everything else will come together nicely now. Remember Amie finding hers for last year, I was in tears. Glad you back home safely. Great shows today. xx

  7. SO pleased you have found the right dresses. Just the men to sort now? Watched the first of Maria's shows on my phone between keeping the boys amused. May get to see the other once they are in bed xx

  8. Hi Barb,
Really pleased that you’ve had such a lovely time and that you’ve managed to get The Dress and bonus that you got Grace’s too. The two pictures of the lace look fabulous, the pink one is such a lovely colour . I’m sure that you will both look a million dollars. Love and hugs, Alison xxx

    1. Hi bloggy friends,
Been a horrible day today up here in Portpatrick. The wind was horrendous as was the rain! I didn’t dare go out – I’d have been blown off my feet! Dave did venture out twice – this morning he went down into the village to get a paper and came back absolutely soaked. This afternoon he was bored so went out again , same thing!! He then had to spend about half an hour in the bath to get warmed up. I had no sympathy for him! I stayed in the nice warm lounge overlooking the harbour and read my book and watched the waves crashing over the rocks. Hoping it will be better weather tomorrow for our journey home. Love and hugs to all Alison xxx

  9. How fabulous to find both dresses so quickly. Love Macy’s, you can get anything there. I love the Christmas department and have several baubles from there. Look forward to seeing the dresses xx

  10. Well, if the glimpses of your two dresses with such pretty lace are anything to go by, the actual outfits will be breathtaking, and to find them in half an hour too. They were obviously hanging up there waiting for you to come and pluck them off the rail. Glad you are back safe and sound too Barbara. x

  11. Hi bloggy friends, hope you are warm and well. I had a tearing up session tonight, couldn't believe that I messed up even on my 5th attempt at a groovi card that was supposed to be relatively simple. Hey Ho, try again tomorrow.xx

  12. Hi Barbara
Glad you both got sorted with the dresses, you just know when you put it on don't you that it's the one. Maria's shows were fab yesterday, didn't she do well.
    Love Diane xxx

  13. The lace is beautiful, so I am sure the dresses will be gorgeous. I am sure you had a wonderful time with Grace. So exciting weddings, I had the pleasure last year of going with my granddaughter to the fittings for her dress, beautiful when finished,. Also did her flowers.
Maria was great yesterday, and so quick. Like the plates as well. Love xxxx
