Fantastic NEW Woodland Animals Stencil.

Fantastic NEW Woodland Animals Stencil.

Hi there.
Thanks for popping in.
How are you?
We have had a great day.
This afternoon I finally got round to some real art-the-way-I-like-it time. A bit of paint, a bit of spit, a brayer, a canvas.
There’s nothing quite like just rolling your sleeves up and going where it takes you….
I think what spurred me on today was this fantastic stencil which Mel has designed for us. Jim made me a set to try out before we go into mass production, to make sure all the tangs are in the right place, and well. I couldn’t stop. I am so chuffed with it, I have to show it to you, even though it won’t be available until the first Sunday in February, when I am launching this and two other spectacular stencils on the 2-4 art show on Hochanda.
I made several pieces in the end, and would like to present them to you today and tomorrow, if that’s okay.
This was a simple one.
But
WHAT A STENCIL !!!!!!
To be able to draw a woodland montage of all these animals is one thing, but to draw it in such a way that all the right bits fall out to make a stencil, and yet the personality and integrity of each animal is still retained – now THAT is a skill not many of us possess.
But Mel does.
And when you get hold of this stencil, you will understand.
it is just so charming. There are so many different applications flying through my head!
But let’s start with the simplest.
All you do is brayer paint over the stencil with paint, then place the wet side down on a piece of our new Designer card, and run it through a die-cutting machine, (aka mangle) to transfer the paint.
But which paint? I hear you ask…
Well, not fast-drying Paperartsy Fresco paint today!
It dried and stuck and peeled the card and all sorts!
#wotamess
But we won’t throw it away. I have another idea for later.
May work….
Let’s try again, but this time with a slow drying Golden Open paint.
Paynes Gray
Bingo.
Mount this up on a piece of the matching Designer paper, and it really shows off the artwork.
So what about the other mess?
Let’s try a Photo Transfer trick to a canvas board.
Spread the photo transfer medium to the canvas board and the picture,
then place both wet sides together and squish together with a brayer. Leave to dry for an hour….
Add a little water to a sponge and start rubbing away the back
Rub, rub, rub…
It’s like a magic trick. And it is supposed to look grungy with bits missing, so just go for it!
Here are my finished pieces from this afternoon’s session.
Tomorrow, if you fancy, I’ll take you through the large canvas on the left, step by step. I really enjoyed doing that one.
Thank you Mel, for a superb stencil.
Love & Hugs,
Barb

  1. Beautiful artwork. It's reminding me of something but I don't know what! Especially the bit that didn't go right first time. First time I saw it it gave me the creeps. Not the stencil the piece of work ! Anyway, the canvas is lovely, just my colours. Look forward to seeing more. xx

  2. Really looking forward to the shows. Bought three of your stencils last year and love then. I have been making cards for twenty years but never used stencils. Love them. ❤️

  3. Hi Barb,
What a gorgeous stencil! Mel is one clever lady! You're not so bad yourself!! Really clever trick with the photo transfer medium as well. Looking forward to seeing the other stencils and also the step by steps for the canvas tomorrow. Love and hugs Alison xxx

    1. Hi bloggy friends,
Hope today has been good for you all. Very cold again here – snow not lifting and very icy underfoot. Did venture out for the grocery shopping ( I lead an exciting life!) and it was lovely to get some fresh air. Groovi workshop tomorrow so that should be good, looking forward to seeing Su there as well. Sending love and hugs to you all. Alison xxxx

  4. What a lovely stencil, and the work that's gone into designing it… Mel you're one clever and talented lady! Like what you've done with it too Barb… another clever and talented lady too. Be good to know how you did the larger canvas, methinks possibly some texture medium used? Have a good day tomorrow, just been packing my bag for Linda's workshop and looking forward to meeting up with Alison too. xx

  5. Wow, love that stencil and the way you have used it, just so different and the animals meld together so beautifully but retain their individuality. Fabulous. x

  6. Hello Barb, a very artistic post today, love the stencil, way to go Mel, this is a definite must have. Your arty creations Barb, just make me want to go play. Looking forward to the canvas step by step. Take care all, hope you are all ok in the snowy weather. Bx

  7. Hi Barbara
What a beautiful stencil, thanks Mel you are a star. I love your arty play, you've done some amazing things and I knew you would have just the trick for the wotamess piece. The canvasses look fantastic. Can I also add that you have such a superstar in Jeanine, she sorted out my membership renewal a treat and then sorted out a whoops my husband had with his Christmas order for me that he hadn't realised until I opened my Christmas present. Swaps were made with no problem at all so a huge tgank you to Jeanine and Clarity for excellent service yet again.
    Love Diane xxx

  8. How did I miss this post? Really clever techniques, and thanks for sharing how to use your less successful attempt too – I always enjoy hearing how to remedy a mistake almost as much as how to create a masterpiece, as I'm much better at the mistakes! x

  9. Fantastic stencil! Is Mel the map lady? This stencil reminds me of the lovely floral bough stamp that I have and love so much. Love the stencil and what you did with it. Thank you so much both Mel and Barb. Sara.
