The Butterfly is good to go again.

The Butterfly is good to go again.

Hi there!
Thanks for popping in.
It’s early here, the sun is coming up over the city,
and New York is waking up.
Last day here today. Flight back this evening at 11pm,
which puts me back in England just in time for brunch tomorrow.
I think my little Gracie Schmetterling (German for butterfly)
is getting ready to fly again; she will be okay now.
She has the week off, except for a few voice over auditions.
?
I know! How does that equate to having the week off ??
Like mother like daughter, eh.
But I get it. No work. No income. It has been the story of my whole adult life too. It’s called self-employment.
We stayed close to base over the weekend, lots of cat-naps, only venturing out for short walks – but it was so hot
In the mid 90’s yesterday, and promises to be even warmer today.
It’s a muggy heat, not a New Mexico desert heat.
Thank heavens for air-con!
So we found a little park near the hotel by the East river, sat in the shade of the trees and watched the world go by.
Grace is slowly relaxing her shoulders. Poor kid.
She has been through the mill.
I found a lovely piece of Groovi parchment art which dear Emma Burns made for me a while ago, and I thought I would share it with you today.
I find it very, very calming to look at, don’t you?

She has used these two plates:
See how she has mixed perforating and embossing
to decorate the butterfly? So delicate!

See the perfect picot cutting and whitework?

This perforating was definitely done using a fine grid.
Much more delicate.

We have A4 Super-fine grids now too.
They are very expensive to make, because we get charged per drilled hole, but I think they are a worthwhile investment if you enjoy gridwork.
You do save £10 if you buy both straight and diagonal together.
Thank you Emma. xxxxx
Anyway, I really should pack my backs and get on with my day.
It has been a fraught fortnight, but with a miraculous outcome.
A little bent wing, which will mend itself in time.
But the beautiful butterfly is good to go again.
Thank goodness.
And thanks to all your wonderful positive support.
Grace has been reading all your loving messages;
she said to me yesterday,
“Do you know Mum, your Clarity friends are amazing.”
Yes, I do know.
Love & hugs,
Barb

  4. Safe journey home to the lovely Dave. It's not so warm here so hope he brings a jacket to the airport for you. That's if he's managed to stop laughing at the man trying to put a door in the car from yesterday

  5. Hi Barbara! Such good news which lifts my heart. I'm sure you must feel like a ten tonne weight has been lifted from you!
Safe journey home… You'll need your cardi on when you get home unless you manage to bring the summer home with you!
Love and hugs and a special hug to Grace! Xxx

  6. Thanks for sharing your news with us, we really do care. Wishing you a very safe journey back home and wishing Grace a speedy recovery. C x

  7. Glad to hear Grace is on the mend, but it's sad that your time together is coming to an end. That reminds me of something my German teacher used to often say, (apologies for the bad German, it was a long, LONG, time ago) "Alles hat ein ende , aber die Wurst hat zwei"!!
Hope you have a smooth flight home xx

  8. Glad to hear Grace is recovering well and you've enjoyed time together despite the circumstances. Safe trip home x x Loving Emma's design, I have those plates …….

  9. So pleased to hear Grace is making a good recovery and you have had some quality time together in spite of the circumstances. Safe journey home. Take care of yourself Barbara, you are such an important lady to so many people.
Love & hugs to you dear lady, and Thank You to you and your team for bringing so much Groovi happiness to so many of us.
I only know you Barbara through FB etc but sincerely hope to get to meet you one day your such an amazing lady xxx

  10. Glad Grace is recovering well, hope you are feeling brighter as well, now that she is on the mend. Love Emma's design. Safe trip home bring some of that warmth back with you please. Think our summer has disappeared. X x

  11. So pleased Grace is on the mend. The emotional toll may take time to recover from too – for all of you. Take care and a safe trip home, Barbara. Mxx

  12. So pleased to hear that Grace is almost ready to fly solo without her mum. I don't miss that muggy sort of heat at all – used to live in Washington DC, and I used to really appreciate the AC too. My curly hair doesn't miss the humidity either – remember the episode in Friends when Monica went to Las Vegas? That was me every day from June to September!!! Safe travels x

  13. Gladdened my heart to read that Gracie is good to go again. It's been a terrible ordeal to go through, but there are so many positives to take from the experience. If Grace is anything like her mum, and she is, then she will do just that. Nothing like this sort of scare to bring home what matters and what doesn't. Really sorts priorities and puts all the ducks in a row. Safe journey back and lots of love to Grace and her lovely fella – one in a million. Xx

  14. Brilliant news Barbara, glad to hear Grace is bouncing back so quickly. Poor soul, voice overs of all things, so soon after throat surgery! But I get you, the work isn't going to land in her, or your lap, you've got to fight and keep fighting, and never give up. No matter what it is you want out of life, and not just career wise either. That's my philosophy anyway. Just wish I could get the break, make a bit of success/progress out of my constant battle from a very young age… But I don't give up, sometimes lose the fight, but I always find it again! You see, you never know what tomorrow might bring, good as well as bad… I wish you every success Grace, butterly is the perfect description for you methinks. Hopefully our positive thoughts for you will stay with you a while longer.

Thank you for updating us, and still blogging, and for Emma's beautiful piece, Barbara. You are right, it is calming to look at, which is weird as the boldness, big wavy images, you'd think it wouldn't be calming.

Hope you enjoy your last day together, despite the heat. You could always shoo a wee bit of it off in my direction… Just a wee bit mind, I'm Scottish, get heat/sun stroke very easily!!!!

    Love Brenda xx

Had a long drive up here to Lossiemouth on the Moray Firth – about 7 hours. Had every type of weather except snow on the way up. We have been watching a pod of Minky Whales swim past tonight – just fantastic and made my night! Hopefully we might see some dolphins tomorrow. Love and hugs to you all, Alison xxx
