We do like a limerick, don’t we!

We do like a limerick, don’t we!

Hi there,
Thanks for popping in.
Friday’s blog a private peek, right?
Well, I wanted to let you in on a little plan I have been working on for a while now. It all has to do with poetry & verses.
Not limericks, no no.
Although they really are great fun, aren’t they!
And you are so good at them!

In fact, I digress slightly, but Andrew at work brought this wonderful book into work.
Said I might enjoy it.

What a great title for a book!

Look at the illustrations!
They are fabulous…

I had intended to flick through and skim them,
given my time constraints today.
Ended up reading pretty much the whole book!
Love this one!

Anyway, enough levity.
I wanted to tell you about our new range of Groovi Plates:
Poetry Plates they are called.
We are in full production right now, and will be launching them on TV at the beginning of February.
HOCHANDA
They are very lovely, even if I say so myself.
I won’t show you the entire plates, because that would be giving the game away, wouldn’t it!
But here is a beeeeyoutifull piece of artwork which Tina Cox gave me yesterday, using the plates.
What a masterpiece, eh?
She just plucked a couple of words from one of my favourite verses, and mixed and matched the other plates which are being launched at the same time.
Used one of our Northern Lights papers in the background
– and voila!
The verses each come in a wonderful frame,
which can be used independently of course.
Isn’t she a talent?
Well, here’s another brilliant NEWSFLASH!
I am so happy to tell you
that Tina will be accompanying me on TV next time too.
Yep. She is going to join me on the Sunday afternoon show.
Now THAT’s what I call GROOVI !!!!!
All good. All good.
Shall we have a little sport, to kick off the weekend?
Here’s an old limerick from the book…

There was a young person of Bantry,
who frequently slept in the pantry;
over to you!
Copy and paste those two lines below,
and finish the limerick.
Then on Sunday,
we will compare to the original by Lear.
And we’ll pick a winner to reiceve a £20 Clarity gift voucher.
We all like a limerick – and we LOVE a prize!
Have a great weekend,
Love & Hugs,
Barbara

  1. Hi Barbara, great news about Tina helping you on your Groovi shows, great combination. I used to like watching Tina on the other channel, the only parchment shows I did watch. Takes the pressure off you to learn it all NOW, which just isn't doable. Love the sound of the poetry plates, and Tina's sneaky peaks. Thank you for sharing. Hope you and Dave have a good chill out weekend. Love Brenda xx

    1. Hi Pam, thanks for asking. They never came, but my garden volunteer had to come out with something he needed me to sign so he took it over. He also phoned about the jury thing, I got a letter this morning saying they've taken me off their list permanently. Hope you have a good weekend too xx

  2. There was a young person of Bantry,
    who frequently slept in the pantry;
    Especially on a full moon
When he became a bit of a loon
So it kept him safely away from the gantry

  3. There was a young person of Bawtry
Who frequently slept in the pantry
He made friends with the mice
    By feeding them rice
That sleepy young person from Bawtry

Looking forward to these new Groovi plates, and great news about Tina joining you on the telly xx

  4. There was a young person of Bantry
    who frequently slept in the pantry;
He liked to nibble, to fill up his middle,
A little of whatever took his fancy.

What lovely cards from Tina, will be great to see you both on your Groovi show, sneaky peeks are fun, something else for my wish list I think. Have a good weekend with Dave.
    Janine xx

  6. There was a young person of Bantry
Who frequently slept in the pantry
Fed the mice on jam and rice
    convinced it was nice
to sleep the pantry in Bantry

Love those plates for the Groovi, my new craft to get into this year. x

  7. Hi Barbara
What a fantastic book and a great time waster. Tina's artwork is stunning, and then you look closely and you realise it's all cut out – blimey, Tina it's amazing!!! I think I'm going to like these new plates.
Here we go on the limerick

There was a young person of Bantry,
    Who frequently slept in the pantry;
    She feasted on Quail,
    And the occasional snail
Whilst pretending to be Lily Langtry.

    Have a lovely evening
    Love Diane xxx

  8. There was a young person of Bantry
Who frequently slept in the pantry
With his hand in the rice
    He fed all the mice
That lived at the back of the pantry

  9. There was a young person of Bantry
Who frequently slept in the pantry
    In between naps
    he ate all the snacks
And now he's too big for the pantry !

I've not read much of Lear but now I'm going to look at more. There was a question on a quiz about him the other day too. Look forward to seeing the new plates and Tina on the telly ! X

  10. Tina's work is so beautiful. I look forward to the poetry plates (and stamps?) and seeing Tina on Hochanda.

    A Limerick:-

There was a young person of Bantry,
    who frequently slept in the pantry;
    Though surrounded by mice
    she found it quite nice
    If just a little unsanitary!

    OK, I'll keep thinking.

  11. There was a young person of Bantry,
who frequently slept in the pantry.
    He'd heard it's good for one's fettle,
    to sleep nearer the kettle,
so he's really just upping the ante!

I do love a limerick challenge! Thanks for setting another one.

Looking forward to seeing the new plates, the sneak peek is already pretty good so I'm sure the plates will be amazing!

  12. Lovely work from our Tina x

There was a young person from Bantry
Who frequently slept in the pantry
So much food passed their lips
    When straight to the hips
Now they are really stuck in the pantry

  13. Excellent news looking forward to seeing Tina alongside you ,saw her at the crowborough craft days brilliant lady ..

There was a young person from Bantry
Who often slept in the pantry
The strong smell of the cheese

That poorly young person from Bantry..

  14. Looking at the picture above the poem I suggest:

There was a young person of Bantry
who frequently slept in the pantry
    he was visited by mice
    who ate all his rice
That hungry young person from Bantry

Can I also take this opportunity to say I love both the examples of the new Groovi items to come soon and especially love the butterfly one. Looking forward to your next shows on Hochanda.

  15. Love the previews of the new plates coming out. More for my collection. I also love Tina's artwork using parts of them and glad she used the Northern Lights backing papers to show her work off. This has given me more inspiration in how to use them. What a treat for us having Tina on Hochanda with you. Hope you and Dave have a lovely weekend.xx

  16. Hi Barb, I love your limerick competitions, but brain is a bit dead and tired due to being away for work again, so I will leave it to the other clever bloggers out there and enjoy reading them. Tina is an incredibly talented lady, and it will be a joy to watch the two of you together on the telly. Take care. Bx

who frequently slept in the pantry,
    she was bother by mice,
    so called on Jo Rice,
who screamed from the top of the gantry.

Stunning work from Tina, looking forward to the shows already.

  19. There was a young person of Bantry,
    who frequently slept in the pantry;
    He ate all the pies
    That were covering in flies
And met with a terrible demise

  20. My brain is pretty well fried at the moment so no limericks from me. I am really looking forward to seeing two such talented ladies as you two joyful ladies. I used to get a lot of fun from watching Tina Cox and also Christine Coleman. I seem to remember another parching teacher before that but I cannot recollect her name. Those new plates looks to be very tempting. Oh dear! xxx Maggie

  21. There was a young person of Bantry
who frequently slept in the pantry
She often had to stocktake herbeans
The count was plenty as it seems
So she was of to the sale at Clarity..

    Boom boom

Great news you are teaming up with another parchment Master why does that make me think off Kung Fu.
Anyway take care Grasshopper. .love Dot.xx

  22. There was a young person from Bantry
Who frequently slept in the pantry
He just loved eating his rice
Quite the opposite to the mice

  23. Lovely work from Tina – I admire such skill and patience!

There was a young person of Bantry
who frequently slept in the pantry
    With a handful of rice
    He befriended the mice
And their warmth made his bedroom quite comfy.

  24. Hi Barb,
These two samples from Tina are gorgeous. Really looking forward to seeing these new plates – think they will be a must have! Great to hear that Tina will be joining you on tv , that should take some pressure off you. Tina is very calm when demonstrating and working with you is a match made in heaven. Sorry my brain doesn't seem able to work on the Limerick tonight, but you have got done brilliant ones already. Love and hugs Alison xxx

  25. There was a young person from Bantry
Who frequently slept in the pantry
    Whilst asleep on the shelf
On the night of the twelfth
Rolled over and squished a poor mousey!

  26. Fab book and gorgeous artwork from Tina! Here is my go at the Limerick:
There was a young person from Bantry,
    Who frequently slept in the pantry;
As the shelf was too hard
    His pillow was lard,
That silly young person from Bantry. xxx

  27. The plates look very interesting Barbara. Look forward to seeing them properly on TV. Be lovely for you having Tina with you on Hochanda to share the load, also for moral support. Have a good weekend, don't forget some Dave and Barb time too. xx

  28. Wonderful new Groovi images Barbara and Tina's artwork is fabulous, and I'm looking forward to seeing Tina and yourself on Hochanda, definitely a dynamic duo. Here's my limerick…

There was a young person of Bantry,
Who frequently slept in the pantry,
    Jams and pickles she'd pick,
    Dip her fingers and lick,
Which would seem a trifle insanitary. x

  29. OK Groovi people, you really are beginning to win me over. I spoke on this forum a few days ago because being an avid stamper, I was fearful of being left behind while everyone else was truly getting in the Groove. However, some of the art I've seen this week is beginning to convince me that maybe this is for me after all. I had the (probably outdated) view that parchment art was white, and frilly. Very clever, and amazingly intricate, but just not to my taste. Now though I am seeing less frill and more thrill; vibrant colours and Zentangle-like grid work. Wow! This is something I really want to learn after all. So, thank you to all the ladies who told me to stick with it, to remember that there will probably always be a Clarity love of stamping, but to try and open my mind to different styles of parchment work. Recently I've been seeing more and more dramatic Groovi work, and I love it. I think I've been won over, and I'm looking forward to learning bolder and brighter Grooviness with the best teachers. My new mantra is "Clarity; clearly a style for every crafter!". Thanks for persuading me to change my mind ladies x

  30. There was a young person of Bantry
who frequently slept in the pantry,
    she dreamt about mice
    who nicked all her rice
that sleepy young person from Bantry.

    or

There was a young person of Bantry
who frequently slept in the pantry
with her hand in the rice
    she attracted the mice
so mouse traps weren't needed in Bantry.

Beautiful artwork from Tina, I only wish my Groovi attempts looked half as good. Oh well, maybe one day with lots and lots of practice! x

  31. There was a young person of Bantry
Who frequently slept in the pantry
He woke every morn, as the cock crowed at dawn
Then wondered where'er could his pants be?

Fab artwork and it'll be great to see you and Tina together on HC!

  32. The teaser samples look fantastic, can't wait. 🙂

There was a young person of Bantry,
    who frequently slept in the pantry;
He lay down in his suit, Ma gave him the boot.
Now he wanders homeless in Bantry

  33. I loved this idea so much, I just had to write another limerick even though the deadline has passed … this time with the theme as shown in the illustration.

There was a young person of Bantry,
    who frequently slept in the pantry;
when he awoke with a start
to bemused mice round his heart
he cried, why my hand rests in rice is explanatory!
