And thus spake the People.

And thus spake the People.

Hiya!
Thanks for popping in today.
Went to bed last night fully expecting Trump to win.
Woke up to the news that he had.
There you go. The American people have spoken
with their ballots.
We shall see how it all plays out….
Whether you agree with the result,
or don’t
is neither here nor there.
It is what it is, and only time will tell.
I for one am glad at least that all that ugly, divisive campaigning
is finally over;
it really was so below-the-belt and un-English.
I was staggered almost daily at these people and their behaviour.
The way they slammed each other and tried to annihilate each other. Very unpleasant.
Definition of Divisive: tending to cause disagreement or hostility between people.
No shit Sherlock!
I was fortunate enough to attend a very uplifting and inspirational Bernie Sanders rally in Monterey, California during the summer.
Now THAT’s what I call a great politician.
But hey. Opinions are like noses – everybody has one.
Vamos a ver, as the Mexicans say. And they sure will.
I made this Statue of Liberty art using our
and shaving foam with Distress Reinkers.
Really like it.
It’s a one-off, an original.
The shade in the shaving foam was pure fluke.
But I think a lot in life is like that:
more luck than judgement.
Personally, there’s so much in this world that I struggle with.
So much makes me so sad I could weep.
And I KNOW I’m not alone in that.
So am I going to waste energy on who’s President of the USA?
Can I control it?
Can I change it?
Will my sixpence worth help the cause?
Precisely.
NOT A JOT.
So I shall keep my own counsel,
I shall not share my opinion.
(Except with Dave. We’ll have a right old chinwag about it!)
I shall not judge those who didn’t do as I would have done.
In the words of Benjamin Franklin:
“I will speak ill of no man and speak all the good I know of everybody”

  1. Well said Barbara. The campaign was not a thing of beauty but it is over now, for good or ill, and as you say, only time will tell. I love your use of shaving foam through that fabulous SOL stencil and the fairly soft colours look great. Thanks for showing this technique again, and this is definitely one to try. x

  2. A very eloquently put piece of writing Barbara, I agree with all you have written. No one knows my feelings about the outcome except for my Rick. Love these words by Benjamin too so very true. Enjoy your evening and only time will tell.
    Hugs to you both

  3. You are so right. I suspect very few in this country agree with what has happened in America, but, as you say, there is nothing we can do about it. To worry about it just depresses us and is totally counter productive. We have enough things to think about that we can do something about so let's put all our energies into those. If you can do something about a problem, do it and stop worrying, and if you cannot do anything to change things, just don't waste your time worrying about it. Let's just concentrate on looking after the people around us. xxx Maggie

    1. You shouldn't worry about us , we now have elected an honest leader who will repair our division s our health care , our unemployment and our world security I pray. It's a glorious day here in America . Sun is shinning and so many of us are very very happy. Democracy is a gift and this election has been a true miracle considering all the horrible lies told by our mainstream media . A true leader has arisen . Guess you can tell that I'm super happy 😊

  4. “I will speak ill of no man and speak all the good I know of everybody” should be everyone's mission, I say. Our world would be a greater, safer and far more pleasant place.
I love the colours in your Liberty piece – truly a one-off.

  5. I am with you Barbara ….no amount of moaning and groaning about something that I can do anything about does me any good. I will be glad when all the news of USA has died down and we can get back to a bit of normality…. If there is indeed such a thing!
In my world all that matters is that me, my family and friends stay happy and healthy!
    Love and hugs! Xxx

  6. I have been surprised this year by both the Brexit vote and the result of the US election, but at the end of the day, I am mighty proud to live in a democracy where everyone has a free and private vote, so when the majority have voted we need to respect that democratic process.

  7. It will be interesting to see what 2017 brings both in the U.K. and USA
Liking the shaving foam, like what I just said you never know what will come from the mix

  8. I knew it before – because it fits to a very negative 2016.
As I said once before I´m so happy leaving this year behind me…
But 2017 is around the corner and I hope it will be much better.
    Hope dies last.

  9. Well said ! I don't think about it a lot as I can't do anything about it ! Just a nuisance I work up at 3 ish and turned the radio on then couldn't get back to sleep. All we can do is sit back and watch. Nice colours in the stencil ! By the time I get back from hols I hope all will be back to normal (whatever that is) and I wont have to listen to it anymore on the radio ! X

  10. Hi Barbara
As usually you've hit the nail on the head, no we can't change the outcome , what will be will be! Think I might not watch the news tonight, just find something entertaining instead. The artwork is lovely, I love the unpredictability of the shaving foam and ink.
    Love Diane xxx

  11. Hi Barbara, I watched it unfold through the night. I must be more of an optimist than people give me credit for as didn't see that coming! Or maybe it's naivety! I wish I had someone to talk it through with, head not doing so good with it all, and don't know what to think. You're lucky to have someone to talk it out with. Thank you for your wise words though, I'll revisit today's blog if/when I get my head a bit straightened out with it all.

Thank you for sharing your shaving foam art too. I've got a wee pile of shaving foam papers that are shaving foam gone a bit 'muddy' dragged through stencils. Thought I should have binned them because the colours had mixed together like this, but me being me couldn't bear to chuck them out. Glad I kept them now. Although still haven't worked out what to do with any of them, either these or the big pile of more colourful ones.

Hope talking it through with Dave helps you
    Love Brenda xx

Maybe this is a timely reminder about our RAKs pledges. That is something we can ALL do to help make the world a better place for others. For all the new people here, Barbara asked us to pledge to do 2 RAKs a day, every day. They can be anything, even really small things can have a big impact on the recipient. And it can be anyone, including animals. But you mustn't ever speak of them, not what you have done, nor what you plan to do. It's not about us the givers, it's about the recipients. It invalidates the RAK if you do speak of it. Some of us also make ATCs and write on the back "just to brighten you day" to hand out to anyone who look like they need a wee extra smile in their day. Anyone who hasn't joined us yet, please do, you can make a difference, together we can. One grain of white sand doesn't make a beautiful beach, but many grains can. And everyone who has previously pledged, please keep it up, thank you xx

  12. I agree, there is much about life that is way beyond our control, and I'm only talking about the things folk do!! Like you, I knew Trump would win, ( hubby was not so sure) and like you, I will keep my council. It will all unfold, as it usually does, but what an unpleasant campaign…. Only in America… Well, maybe not. Love the artwork. No change there. Xxxx

  13. Yep, I'm glad it's all over and look forward to things settling down. As to what happens next, I guess we'll just have to wait and see, and there is nothing we can do about it anyway.

  14. I agree with all you say and nothing we can do about result. Like the artwork shaving foam always gives an original result. Busy house here as Greg and Amie are packing up ready to move to their own house tomorrow. We can be grumpy old retirees again. xx

  15. I am just glad it is all over barr the shouting. I haven't enjoyed the bitterness at all and as you say I might not agree with the result but cannot do owt about it. Having said that Jeremy Vine did say something this morning that made me laugh – "waking up to Trump as President would be like the UK waking up to Piers Morgan as Prime Minister" – made me chuckle did that. Enjoy your day/evening. Xxx

  16. Well said Barbara, all out of our control so its no good worrying about it, just glad its over and hope our tv and radio let it all drop now or at least in the near future. Great artwork with the stencil, like Brenda above a lot of my shaving foam attempts either came out much too bright or very muddy. I have kept them but no ideas as to what I can use them for. Love and hugs Pam xxx

  17. Hi to all you lovely bloggy friends, hope you have had a good day and have been keeping warm. Hope you got in ok at the hospital Sheila. Miss seeing Morag on here, hope you are ok. Love and hugs to you all, Pam xxx

  18. Hear..hear.

Belated Happy birthday to Dave. It was my dear one's birthday yesterday – he loved his Clarity sentiment card – "You Light Up My Life, Every Day".
Let's hope Donald J, across the pond, can live up to that too.
    Love
    Maggie (Yorkite)
PS It's MY birthday on Saturday, we Scorpios have to stick together.

  19. Hi all, agree with above sentiments re the situation across the pond. Fascinating to watch it all last night, glad the horrendously long campaigning is over, and opting for the 'serenity to accept the things I cannot change' approach. Gentle hour pre lunch organising the Clarity stash then a long nap to catch up on sleep. Masterchef and more groovi houses after dinner, nice and normal! Missing you too Morag. Best wishes to all with health issues, and love and hugs to all. Especially you Brenda xxx

  20. Hi Barb, like your blog today and the shaving foamed stencil. Lovely arty effect. I tried doing background papers with the foam a while back, successful, but the smell of the foam was really yukky and hung around for days. Might try a different brand though. xx

  21. Hi Barb,
I agree with everything you've said today. I am just glad that it's all over. At least most of the people interviewed today said that even if they didn't agree with the outcome, they had to accept it and try to make it work. A shame that a lot of people here can't do that with the Brexit vote. It's democracy after all. Love your shaving foam piece as well. Love and hugs Alison xx

    1. Hi bloggy friends,
Really cold and snowy here this morning then turned to rain. Been a Groovi day which has been great. Was listening to my iPod whilst tracing out a design when I realised I was listening to groovy kind of love! How bizarre was that?! Xx love and hugs Alison xx

    2. If that's a dig at us Scots, we, as a nation, voted to remain in the EU both in our not to independence referendum and in the no to brexit referendum! And to make things worse, we're being totally excluded from all involvement in the negotiating process! Why should we remain silent!

  22. I'm a very proud American and I awoke filled with hope and joy and happiness as we the people have spoken to replace the failed policies of Obama . It's been a historical and truly miraculous time to see a non elitist, non politician and noncorrupt person who the media tried to daily assinate him with their lies and assaults .trump,is an axample of what one can accomplish with determination and persistence and not listening to the polls that said he didn't have a chance . It is our Brexit and we too have spoken . Thank you americaand thank you God . Have a great day everyone , be happy our future is looking brighter . Joy now jan. Ps . Have been traveling the past three weeks to countries along the Adriatic and Greece . Great time , no crafting tho

    1. I hope your optimism lasts, Janice, but having listened to Donald Trump himself talking, he does not come over as anything else but corrupt. That said, I am now avoiding any of the rehashing of all the rhetoric. Like Brexit, we all have to live with the results. That is my last comment on these subjects. Maggie

  23. Hello Barb,
Short post tonight as still having to use Kindle and had second cataract op today. Diane reckons I should have the one in the back of my head next!! Friend, what friend ha ha.
I just wish I'd had a bet on the election. I hope you read this it may give you a laugh.
Lady on next trolley in hospital "what do you think about that Trump". I told her that I wasn't surprised and she then asked " what will Ali Baba do now". It took me a few seconds and I said "Barack Obama?" And she said "yes"!!!!

  24. Grieving with the majority of Americans who did not vote for Trump (Hilary won the popular vote), but hope to move forward, thanks for your inspiring piece

  25. Morning Barb

Such sensible words today, enjoyed reading the blog post

I love using the shaving foam technique and recently made a card doing this and using one of Clarity's stencil. The end result was gorgeous

  26. Fabulous stencil and perfectly timed….as for the people speaking out…well they sure have according to the news this morning……it beggers belief….it really does….x
