ARTISTRY INK PADS
Hello there.
Thanks for popping in.
Been thinking about this blog,
and the little poem which gives me a daily clue
which direction to take….
Monday’s Blog is Flowers & Trees
Tuesday’s Blog I can do as I please!
Mindful Wednesday’s something new,
Thursday’s Blog is always blue.
Friday’s blog a private peek,
Saturday’s Blog a New technique;
And that which is blogged on the Sabbath day
is step by step – and typical Gray!
Time for a little change, methinks.
At the workshops last week, naturally enough, colours came up.
Which colours work well together,
which colours don’t blend well, and so on.
Some folks knew instinctively which colours would compliment each other, whilst many were rather apprehensive.
That said, their results were awesome!
So I thought it might make good sense to dedicate Tuesday’s blog to colours and how they sit together!
We have recently introduced a whole beautiful range of Indian Ink Pads to our palette, called the Artistry Collection.
(where would YOU go to for dyes??)
I have decided to showcase a mix of them every Tuesday in a project here. That way we can investigate combinations of colours from the new range whilst figuring out how they perform together.
There are 48 colours in the range.
I love the intelligent flip-top lid,
the clear colour labelling
AND the secret compartment in the lid
for your little blending sponge.
Really really clever.
Maggie Craner, who says it as it is, wrote a
5-star review on Facebook the other day,
having bought a few at the workshop.
Let me show you what she wrote:
Who has tried the new Artistry inks from Clarity? I did today and am very impressed. I used them with brushes (Clarity, of course), I stamped with them, and used the ink on the blending mat to watercolour. All excellent.
Also very intelligent (not to mention delightful)
are the 4 sets of mini ink pads.
The entire range has been split into 4 neat little storage boxes.
I thought these would make a great purchase,
because you immediately have the whole collection.
For craft groups, travelling, holidays – and just because you can!
Then, over the coming months,
as we do projects each Tuesday,
using variations and combinations from the 48 colours,
you can decide which colours you are particularly partial to,
and perhaps get the larger pads at a special Blog Price.
Sounds like a Bloggy good plan to me!
And we’ve got these blending tools and foam refills from Artistry too.
Anyway,
I will leave it there today.
Let’s kick off the colour blog next Tuesday.
If you want to treat yourself to a set or 2 of the mini inks,
do so soon,
because we are actually running low on stock already!

Reworking the Bloggy ditty then…

Great idea, can't wait
Can't wait to try these new inks Barbara, will have to buy a set methinks xx
Thanks for the reminder, I keep forgetting about these. Think the cases are a really good idea. Xx
I would like to buy which sets do you recommend to get first, I can't choose? Thanks Barbara. X
All of them, in the end. You know it makes sense. xxx Maggie
Thanks Maggie C I always choose the wrong colours, trying to be good with money ha ha!
I was hoping to make an informed choice!! X
Seriously tempted with these new colours, take up less room than the big pads. Can you buy the mini pads individually so if you use one up you can replace it in the set? I love the idea of the Tuesday blog being about good colour combos. XX
Re-inkers would be better, as they have so many uses. xxx Maggie
Good thought well done Maggie XX
Afternoon bloggy friends, Hope you are all well today. Put the flags out I managed to craft this afternoon!! Mum was sitting with Phoebe so I escaped to the craft room. I have been flitter gluing and guilding flaking for England, also been planning my August challenge card. Such fun! XX
How lovely for you xx
Good to hear you made time to craft hugs for you and pheobe xxx
So pleased for you Donna! Hugs for you and Phoebe, love Gilly xx
Hi Donna oh that's good you've managed a bit of you time, good old mum to the rescue😀. We saw finding Dory last night, I thought of you,'just keep swimming'. Have you read the new Harry Potter book yet? Thought you might be sat reading it whilst keeping Phoebe company. Sending hugs for you and Phoebe xxx
Hi Diane, I'm going to see that tomorrow, can't wait. No haven't read that one yet want to see the stage show but I think I have more chance at winning the lottery (and I don't even play it) so I will have to relent and buy the script instead. Just finished reading the series again so the new one should be added to my library…….hmmm might need to go book shopping, it's as much fun as craft shopping! XX
Hi Donna,
Great that you've had a crafty day. Good of your Mam to look after Phoebe for you too. Love and hugs Alison xx
That's good to hear Donna! x
Love these inks so juicy and vibrant, and the storage is brilliant. I got them on the retreat last week so I am only just at the beginning of what is going to be a lovely colourful experience x can't wait

Omg! Those inks are just fan-dabbie-dozie! I bought all 4 sets at the retreat….well it would be rude not to! There are some fabulous colours in all 4 sets and no overlaps! They are so juicy too! Can't wait to use them on more of my projects!!! Now just need to find a space in my cupboard for them!!!
Love and hugs xxxx
I bought all four sets of the mini pads too as I thought it would be rude not to. It would unbalance the storage at Clarity if we chose just one set. xxx Maggie
Haha what are you two like 😀. Xxx
We are addicts, Diane. xxx Maggie
The colours I used together for my first use were Groovy Grapes nd Fncy Fuschia and a blend between the two and I loved the result. I put the inks onto the blending mat, added water and painted the flowers we were using. Once I had finished, I sprinted the left over ink and did my favourite trick of mopping it all up with a couple of pieces of stencil card to add to my stash of backgrounds, one very vibrant and one much softer.
I do have to thank you, Barbara, for all the tips, tricks and techniques I have learned from you. In my very first watercolour class with Matthew Palmer locally, I came to realise just how much of what I have learned from you carried over to this new experience and it gave me so much more confidence. I was so happy with the final result and have signed it, mounted it and taken it in to be properly framed today. I intend to hang it in pride of place in my living room – all down to you, Barbara. Thank you. xxx Maggie
Fancy Fuschia! Dratted predictive text. xxx Maggie
Maggie – I have all sorts of visions of you sprinting over the left over ink too! Watch out for those colourful footprints x
Good for you Maggie. I did a watercolour course a few years ago and I too can see so many overlaps xx
There are days when I hate predictive text. I missed that one. Note to self, proof read before pressing the button. xxx Maggie
You can switch predictive text off on android tablets, and I'm assuming smart phones and iPads etc. will be the same.
1. Tap on "apps", then tap on "settings" app
2. Scroll down the list to the "system" section (it's at the bottom on mine)
3. Tap on "language and input" (may be worded differently on yours)
4. You'll see "keyboards and input methods" in the list that comes up (again it may be worded differently on yours)
5. Tap on your (tablet's make) keyboard – for mine it says "Samsung keyboard" (Not on "default keyboard" but don't worry if you do, just go back a step)
6. Tap on "smart typing" and in the list that comes up should be "predictive text" and you can switch it on and off here.
If anyone is trying to and gets stuck, please tell me where you are stuck and I'll try to explain it better. Or if anyone can't find it on their device, if you tell me the make and model I'll find out exactly where to find it for you.
hope that helps xx
Wow Maggie sounds like your first art work with the inks deserves framing xxx
Maggie how wonderful, that's really good to hear. I'm so pleased these inks have got lovely names too, I have to admit I had the same vision of you sprinting over your blending mat too! Xxx
Thank you for your help, Brenda. Hope you have had a good day too. xxx Maggie
Love the idea of these inks Barbara, but might have to wait for Christmas as I've got a few expensive months coming up! Great idea to focus in on colour combos though – thank you, Susan x
Oh dear Barbara I don't know what to buy first, my wish list is as long as my arm! I think I will make up my mind at Leyburn.
I love the idea of the new blog rhyme and am looking forward to seeing how the new inks work xx
Hello everyone. I got a new phone yesterday in the hope that I can use it instead of my old tablet and laptop sometimes and keep more up to date with the blog.
Pen I just read your comments from yesterday I do feel for you but you can only do your best and you probably need to try to let things take their course without feeling guilty although I know that's a tall order! Just keep sounding off on here and lots of us will listen and understand xx
Brenda I hope your gardener and hairdresser came and went without too much worry on your part xx
Sheila I hope yesterday's easy day has helped.
I will come back later to read more posts if I am not too tired xx
Thanks Chris. It's tomorrow, I'm just doing my usual in getting really worked up and scared in advance!!! xx
Evening Chris enjoy your new phone today's been my rest day thank you for thinking of me xxx
Hi Chris – I hope that your new phone helps! Hugs Gilly xx
Hi Chris, hope the new tech works better than your old one did. XX
Hello Chris I hope your new phone helps you keep up to date. Xxx
Hi Chris,
Technology – we can't live with it and can't be without it!! I just tried to put my iPad on and it told me I had to change my password! Don't know why! Then I every time I put the password in , it told me I was wrong! 15 attempts later, I realised I was putting it in in alpha mode instead of numerical! Now all I have to do is attempt to remember the new password. I've had the last one for 4 years without bother. Enjoy your new phone and I hope it helps. Love and hugs Alison xx
Brenda, when you get worried, would it help to think of us all on this blog as your support army, ready to back you up. Picture us, all ready to drive the demons out. Take care. xxx Maggie
I'll try that Maggie, with you all armed with your brayers and heat guns!!! Diane was suggesting picturing you all, talking to you all in my head tomorrow. No harm in trying them out. Thank you xx
I'm in, for learning about colours and how they work together, me of not even school art learning! Thank you Barbara. I'm one of the fortunate who can put colours together and know they work just by seeing them. Maybe a bit too much, as I'm often saying to the professional crafters on the telly that their colours don't go together!!! Never you though Barbara 🙂 But it would be really good to learn the rules as it can take a while, and much precious energy, to pull out every colour of whatever it is so I can sit and work out what works!
I hope you don't mind me saying this Barbara. I would love to buy the new ink pads but I already have a big stash of distress pads and Adirondacks, and a re-inker for each distress pad I have. I therefore can't justify buying more, unless it's the odd one that fills a gap. Would it be at all possible for you to say which distress/Adirondack, if there is one, is similar in colour to the new ones as you teach us about them? I think I'll be really stuck otherwise. Thank you. I understand if you don't want to.
Hope you have a good evening
love Brenda xx
I'm like you Brenda got my Adirondack/ distress pads / I've bought the mini distress pads too as got more for my money so cannot justify buying others at present even though love the look of the new colours in the artristry sets .would be good to buy one at a time to try .
Sending hugs for you and daisy xxx
Evening Brenda – I am with you and Sheila regarding ink pads, I too have quite a range of Distress pads, some large and some small, so I need to keep using those too. Sending you some positive vibes for tomorrow, and I hope that all goes well for you – hugs Gilly xx
Breathe and it will be fine, hair will get cut, grass will get cut, and you will smile when it is done. XX
Hello my lovely Brenda, sending you a big hug tonight as I know you will be worrying. Now do you think it would help if you think of us all sitting at home thinking of you as you get your hair cut so you can chat to us in your head and forget what is going on. We can virtually hold your hand too. The grass will look lovely when it's cut and you will look lovely too. Sending a hug for Daisy too, she will be rolling in paint to look as glamorous as you! Xxx
That's too optimistic Donna!!! I never smile after a haircut. And it will be worse this time for me with it being so long since the last cut, and a different hairdresser. And it's highly unlikely the grass will be cut, we're due a lot of rain, the only rain there's been for a while and none forecast for the near future after tomorrow. Sod's law! And can't change days because of haircut. 🙁
That's a wonderful idea Diana I'm in xx
p.s. Thanks all for your thoughts and help for tomorrow. Guess most people would be saying "what's her problem"! So many people don't understand what it's like trying to live in the normal world when you're on the autistic spectrum. Even some who are employed to supposedly support and care for people like myself! And that's before you add on what my life has had to be because of normal people. And now I've got to disappear asap, someone outside has been running a noisy engine for ages, and that's one of bad noises, if I don't escape it right now I'll be hurting myself!
Oh, bless you Brenda! I really hope that tomorrow isn't too traumatic for you. I'll be thinking of you. I also have all of the Distress Inks + the full box of reinkers and quite a few Adirondacks ( most of them bought when Barbara had them on offer!) . I am tempted by these new ones but don't know if I can justify spending £100 on them all. Love and hugs Alison xx
Loving the new ditty, loving the look of these new ink pads too. Looking forward to seeing future Tuesday blog posts.
Hugs
Linda xxx
Looking forward to the new Tuesday colour blog always good to learn new techniques xxx
Evening dear family of blog friends hugs to all who need them hugs to all on the blog xxx
It's been a rest day for me as did too much crafting yesterday in bed now reading this wonderful blog .xxx
Wee extra hug Dorothy xx
Pam sending hugs hope your doing ok xxx
Pen keep popping to update how you are xxx
Gilly hope your pain meds are working left you a little message on yesterday's blog xxx
Hi Sheila – yes, I have seen your message – and yes, it did make me laugh, carefully!! Yes, the pain meds are working well and I am having a job now to keep my eyes open. Time for bed, I think – continue to rest tomorrow! Love and special hugs, Gilly xxx
Hi Sheila, wish we lived nearer I could employ you to sit with Phoebe! I could pay you in white chocolate and tea. XX
we could get Tom to pheobe sit while I drank the herbal tea and ate a little white chocolate watching while you crafted away xxx
I like the idea of a crafty angel in the room giving helpful hints, or maybe….."Are you sure you want to use that there?" "Just stick a butterfly over it, no one will know!" XX
Hello Sheila, I've had a chuckle at the thought of you and Donna crafting together, what mischief you would get up to. Hope you've had a good day, sending you a hug and a cheeky one for Tom too, he hasn't had one lately xxx
Hi Sheila,
You'll have to try pacing yourself. We don't want you overdoing the craft too often so you're back to square one! Is there such a thing as craft overdose I wonder! Take care, love and hugs to you, Alison xx
hello Alison I do try honestly hugs xxx
These pads sound fantastic especially with a secret compartment in lid. Yvonne xx

I like the idea of looking at colour combos. Does anyone know what type of ink pads are best to use on parchment when using using brushes to create a background colour? Any advice would be much appreciated.
Barbara says use distress inks which I have used on my parchment hope this helps xxx
I have used Distress and Adirondak inks and both have worked well. Just be aware you need to leave then to dry thoroughly before working on them. XX
I would imagine that the new Artistry inks would also work well. xxx Maggie
Thank you for your replies, that is good to know. Thanks.
Having used a few of the mini ink pads at the retreat last week, I agree that they are lovely to use. I'm also catching up here and want to say how lovely the canvases have been the last couple of days. Certainly food for thought. Thanks Barbara hugs xx
Hi Barbara – I like the sound of the revised/updated blog! Looking forward to seeing what you come up with – hugs Gilly x
Hi to all my lovely blog friends – it's been a day of rest and a GP consultation – he has prescribed some serious painkillers and muscle relaxants, and an Ibruprofen gel to help with my back pain. I don't like taking any sort of drugs really, but I have needed to make an exception this time. I hope that you are all as well as can be – love and sleepy hugs, Gilly xxx
Sweet dreams gilly xxx
Rest up, soon feel better. XX
Gilly take it easy, night night sleep tight xxx
Hi Gilly,
Sorry to hear you've been in so much pain and hope you get some relief soon. Take care, love and hugs, Alison xx
I hope the meds work soon. Sometimes we have no other choice, it's all about weighing advantages against disadvantages xx
Sorry to hear that Gilly, I hope the painkillers work soon. x x
To me they look like distress ink but with different names and the ink blending tools too look so like Tim Holtz's. You would think he would have copyright on the design. I have invested heavily in distress inks and love them so won't be getting any more.
They do stamp much better than the Distress inks, Julie, a much crisper image altogether. xxx Maggie
Hi Barbara & ladies, just love the look the new ink pads. I like many others have quite a few ink pads so instead of buying these I just will have to buy some more Groovi plates and other Groovi things.
I think that sounds a good idea.
Hi ladies hope you are all well. Just wish the weather could be a little better this morning it was like a November day drizzle and mist.
Hope you all have a good night.
Hugs Lynn xx 😴 nighty nighty all
Night Lynn sweet dreams xx
Hi Lynn it's been cold and wet here too but the garden needs the rain. I like your thinking on the Groovi plates. Night night xxx
Hi Barbara
I like the idea of colour lessons, I don't think I'm confident enough with colours sometimes but like Brenda I sometimes think some of the colours some people on tv put together just don't go ( not you Barbara!) or like the canvass yesterday I choose a colour I like then find you've gone for it too so it must be in the brain somewhere! I like the look of these ink pads, I have a few distress pads which I love but might think about investing in some of these as we go along.
Love Diane xxx
Hello all my lovely blog friends, I hope everyone is ok. We've had a wet day today, the garden needs it so mustn't complain. I sat down this afternoon with the new Harry Potter book that I bought whilst out shopping, a couple of hours later I realised I should be cooking dinner, whoops! Sending hugs all round xxx
Hi Diane,
It's been a funny day here today. Quite muggy at times, then cold. I had to put the fire on at one point this evening – much to Scamp's pleasure! Gather you're enjoying the Harry Potter book then?! Love and hugs Alison xx
I have quite a few distress pads and I like the fact that you can buy the inks as well, but I also like the small size of these and the way they store. Decisions decisions…
Really looking forward to learning from the newly themed Tuesday blog. I used the new mini ink-pads at the retreat and loved them so much I treated myself to one set. I plan to gradually increase my collection as and when but look forward to taking advantage of any offers on the large pads too. Love and hugs, Jeanette xxxx
I will try the new ink pads as and when my old ones dry up but I can see they are great colours and well designed and a wonderful addition to the Clarity range. I love the idea of you exploring colour combinations Bafbara and look forward to next Tuesday's blog. x
Pat, I re-inked my mini Distress pads, but be warned, do not overdo the process. Mine are now so juicy that I have to work off the blending mat, and use third generation. xxx Maggie
Hi Barb,
Looking forward to the new theme for Tuesday's – I'm sure we will all learn loads from you ( I know I will anyway). I do love the idea of these new ink pads especially the design. I just don't know if I can justify spending the money on more ink pads though. I will have a good look at them at Leyburn and know that I will probably cave ii, if you've got any stock left that is. Love and hugs Alison xx
Hi bloody friends,
Hope you're all ok. Morag, hope little Penny isn't giving you the run around! Dave was out playing golf with a friend today so I had the day to myself. I did a bit on the turbo and then did some Groovi work trying to think of something for the challenge. Really enjoyed it. Love and hugs to you all, Alison xxx
Really sorry! That should have been BLOGGY friends!! It's that predictive text again! Love Alison xxx
Was that a typo Alison?? Didn't know you used such language! I hung around thinking you may pop up as I was following you on here. Shall we try and talk each other into or out of the ink pads at Leyburn? Lots of love Chris xx
You just saw it before me xx
Hi Alison 😱 Xxx
Good idea Chris xx
Theses inks look so good and love the fabby lid. Something else for my ever growing Clarity must haves lol Great blog Barbara only found it the other day xxx

Hello Barb, well what a fab idea, love the colour range, and so looking forward to the Tuesday blog. I think I have decided what to spend my voucher on. Take care all. Bx
Hi Barbara, This is a brilliant idea, I really like the colour combinations of these inks.
