My Mum and Dad….

My Mum and Dad….

Hi there.
Bit late today.
Friday’s Blog a Private Peek?
I went to the dentist in the morning, thinking we were having a consultation, and instead spend over two and a half hours with my head pointing southwards, while he drilled away a badly fitted crown at the front, and created a new temporary one.
Not much fun.
Then went over to Mum and Dads,
to cheer up, and spend some time with my favourites.
Dad has always been into music.
Mum? Not so much, apart from Mozart and Strauss.
So there’s a constant battle of wills at their house,
They have been playing “Turn it down John!”
for as long as I can recall.
So at Christmas, Dave, the other music nut in the family,
bought Dad a pair of headphones, to plug into his Ipad.
Well. When I was over there today, I asked him whether he had tried them yet, but he hadn’t.
So out came the big box with all things techy,
and we plugged him in.
Was he happy?
What do you think??
He was dancing and jiving away instantly.

Here’s Mum, wondering why it was so quiet!
So while Dad escaped into his world of music,
Mum and I had a good old natter,
and I filled their calendar with the year’s dates of shows
and Open Days and retreats n stuff.
(Dates to be announced once we get the Groovi Club
properly launched next week !!!)
One thing at a time…
Then Dad decided he wanted to share his new found
surround sound experience!
As I was saying, not really Mum’s bag…

Check out the grimace!
Oh, And Dad’s techy box!

Brilliant really.
We had such a laugh.
But now I am going to ask you to guess
just what Dad was listening to.
I don’t think you’ll get it.
Not what a man in his late 70’s would typically listen to….
Certainly what my Dad would though!
No wonder my Mum runs for cover!
Go on, give it a shot.
Have a guess….
I’ll tell you first thing tomorrow morning if you got it right….
And if you did,
I’ll treat you to a £20 Clarity Gift Voucher.
If more than one of you gets it, I’ll pick a lucky winner.
But I reckon my money’s safe.
And Dad, if you’re reading this,
DON’T YOU DARE SPILL THE BEANS!!!!
love & hugs,

  1. Hi Barbara, my dad always wore headphones too, and would suddenly start singing away to himself! So, something a 70 year old would not usually listen to. Got to be something like One Direction or, at the opposite end of the spectrum, the Sex Pistols???? Have a lovely peaceful evening, Barb's mum! Xx

  2. Sorry to hear about the tooth…I bet that's set you back a bit!!!
However how lovely to get to spend your day with your mummy and daddy! And great pictures too! You're dad looks really happy in his musical world and your mum's face is a picture!
As for the music…I'd say something heavy and rock is what your dad was listening too!
    Can't wait to find out!
    Love and hugs! Xxxx

Think your dad may love a bit heavy metal / rock roll bless him hope he don't have it to loud as when bob listens to his. Even on head phones can still hear it over telly have a great weekend xxx

  5. Obviously something to get him rocking! I don't even know the names of any of the new bands around. So how about Black Sabbath?
I can't wait for the new groovi club info, it's so exciting waiting for it.x

  6. I think he is listening to Hocus pocus by Focus! It is my son's favourite 60s song! He has a very eclectic taste in music which has helped this seek with his Higer music prelim.
I hope your mouth feels better soon. You have my sympathy as I too have on going issues with a crown.
    Have a fabulous weekend. x

  8. Hmmmm let me think, could your Dad have been listening to Il Divo, one of favourite groups 😉

Glad you spent some lovely quality time with your parents and you feel better too x

  9. Fabulous, thanks for sharing your family time. An inspired present from Dave and good timing that you got to see his joy when you set up the headphones

My wonderful Dad would have been in his 70's and he loved Shirley Bassey so that is my guess

  10. Well your poor mum! Obviously wasn't her taste of music . So what would Barbara's dad be listening to … At first I thought rap but you can't really jig about to that so I'm going to go for country and western music maybe Dolly Parton ! X

  11. Oh dear, it could be anything! How about Boomtown Rats?
Looking forward to hearing bout the Groovi club and the retreat dates. Also hope that your mouth feels more comfortable now. Have a great weekend xx

  12. Got to be something way out there so my guess is………..Taylor Swift! Now that is a whacky guess. Hope your tooth is not too painful, bet the injection is wearing off a bit by now. Noticed that fine looking calendar on the wall. XX

  13. Well it is a bit of a puzzle cause it seems to have a beat and your mam is certainly not a fan. Your dad looks very good for his age by the way and your dear mama. So here goes – Queen. Everyone likes Queen don't they, well perhaps not mama? Hope your temporary tooth holds up – no mint imperials. Much Love – Jayne

    1. Not a good day Donna I went to Drs this afternoon to have some diabetic blood tests done the dr came to see my cyst as its getting bigger and more inflamed which was so good of him has I didn't have an appointment said let the antibiotics do their job I'm booked in for Wednesday with the other dr so hopefully antibiotics will have worked by then but don't want to be taking antibiotics every few weeks so will see what happens Wednesday thank you for thinking of me xxx

    2. Hi Donna, yes not a bad day, lovely evening up at our Sons. Had a laugh playing Who am I, with the grandchildren and us grown ups. Hope you've enjoyed your day, especially this evening, no school tomorrow, should say today really.Love Pam x

  14. Sorry you had a bad start to your day but it was good that you could then take a lovely break with your parents. I would go for Status Quo as they have such a good beat, but I could not pin it down to a particular song, unless it was Rockin' All Over The World. Has Paul tidied up for you today in your Room of Creations? xx Maggie

  15. How about Snow Patrol 'Chasing Cars' or Coldplay 'Paradise?' Happened to be in Den Haag a few years ago when the latter were playing on Malieveldt. Our hotel, at the edge of area, had apologised on check-in re the sound volume but we were thrilled; balmy summer's evening walking back, replete after a lovely dinner, sitting on one of the many townhouse steps and listening to Coldplay – a free concert!!! Wasn't too good early next morning when all the heavy trucks rolled in to demolish the set, though!
    Wee houses and sale stamps arrived today. A play day pencilled in for tomorrow. ;~}

  16. Sorry about the trip to the dentist I hope you are feeling better. To me your dad looks like he's dancing to Moves Like Jagger by Maroon Five. Don't know why I thought of it must be because of the Muppets commercial.

  17. Sounds like you had a tough time at the dentist – at least things got better once you joined your parents. It looks as though you had fun – and your Dad looked mighty pleased with his new headphones. Now, what unlikely music can I choose – mmm that's a tough one! I will go for Meatloaf!! Ha ha – maybe not!! I'm sure your money is safe Barb! Gilly xxx

  18. I wonder why anyone would want to be a dentist when everybody hates to go so much? Your dad looks like he's loving the headphones. My guess is T Rex – got to love a bit of glam rock! x

  19. Poor you Barb the dentist is never a fun visit in my books. Looks like a fun day with your Mum and Dad. Was your Dad singing along to ABBA. …lolol. Enjoy your weekend xx

  20. Spice Girls?..tell me what you want what you really really want….
    or something similar!!

Hope the trauma of the dentist is fading !!!

Look forward to hearing who it actually was!

    Much love

    Kim xx

  21. Hope you are feeling better. I hate the dentist and am always a big wuss! Maybe your dad is listening to U2 or Coldplay! Looking forward to joining the Groovi club. Have a restful weekend! Xx

    1. Evening Sheila how are you feeling today? Did you hear the bump earlier – that was me going diamond and putting in my sale order! Beans on toast for dinner for the next month! Xxxx

    2. Hello Diane not a good day ,when I got back from Drs I rang to do my diamond and my order too must have rang after they closed so will try Monday I hope you put on your clarity cushions to help with the bruises oh no beans and toast you cannot have spent enough mine will be just toast thanks for making me smile oh how I need that big crafting hugs xxx

  22. I have the "joy" of visiting the dentist on Monday for a wisdom tooth extraction. Just as long as it feels better than it does at the moment.

My guess is your dad was listening to James Last. Well, someone has to!

    John xx

  23. i think some rock n roll – Bill Hayley – Little Richard or Elvis himself – know what you mean re dentists i have been having ongoing treatment for a year since a dental op in jan 2015 that went wrong…;( xx

  24. Sorry your dentist visit was not as planned but it looks like you had a fun time with your parents. I think your dad was listening to Ed Sheran's album X. Have a lovely day tomorrow. Love and hugs xxx

  25. I am going to guess Sugarbabes only because my father-in-law listens to them, he is about your Dad's age and also because they did a song called run for cover! Hope tooth better soon. Karen xxx

  26. Hi Barbara
Oh no poor you at the dentist – hope it's not too painful tonight. Aren't your mum and dad lovely, I'm glad dad's enjoying his headphones and your mum is enjoying the peace and quiet! Now I thought Kylie or Madonna but it could be E L O but there's some funky folk music out there too so it could be Bellowhead. I'm looking forward to finding out. Take care
    Love Diane xxxx

  27. How wonderful that your parents are still able to support you. Great that you got the tech working … Could he perhaps be listening to Queen?

Really looking forward to the Groovi club and all your other great stuff that you seem to have in store for us 🙂

  28. I'd say Arctic Monkeys with perhaps a little Jethro Tull for good measure. Hope you get a decent night's sleep. Better not to have had to think about it for too long beforehand though! XX

  29. looks like your Mum & Dad took your mind off the dental work. I think your Dad could be a heavy metal fan, I was going to say Led Zepplin but I see someone has already suggested that. How about Black Sabbath, oh no! that's been thought of as well,I'll have another think later.
    Linda

  30. Well if it was my husband it would have been Chris Barber, or Donna Summer and if it was me anything from the 60s and 70s – Bee Gees etc. or even Mamma Mia or maybe Michael Buble. I am not up with the current popstars – would have to ask the 3 year old granddaughter for that, who knows all the words to the latest pop songs!

  31. Initial thought, good old Meatloaf, that's the biker chick in me but then thought Stones With Mick Jagged. Probably all wrong Shirley Bassey????? We'll whoever it is, your dad is enjoying the experience. Never too old for great music.. x

  32. Hi Barbara
How lovely to spend time with your Mum & Dad after that visit to the dentist. Your Dad looks lots of fun. I would have said he was fond of singing along to Queen, but as others have said that I will go with Gary Numan. Your Mum definitely wouldn't like that!
    Hugs from Chris X

  33. I'd guess your Dad was into Bill Haley, Little Richard or The Big Bopper, that sort of era, no clue really. Ahha could be Celine Dione. Hope your tooth is better tomorrow. Glad you had some family time with your parents. You'll have a laugh no doubt at our guesses, think your money is quite safe this time. Love Pam xx

  34. hi, I guess your tooth is better already because you had a good time last afternoon. Your dad might like to listen t to Military music and big band Sound, that gives him a good swing, love to hear what it really was, Gisela

  35. Hope you're getting over the dental work. I'm guessing Meatloaf or Queen. My Dad definitely does not appear to be as cool music wise as yours. He would however get on very well with your Mum on the music choice front. Can't wait to be a diamond member!

  36. Hi Barbara, sorry to hear you had to be in the dentist chair for so long! Hope it's not aching now. Something a man your dad's age wouldn't typically listen to…. Mmmm Justin Bieber?! Lol!;-)

  37. Hi Barbara, sorry to hear you had to be in the dentist chair for so long! Hope it's not aching now. Something a man your dad's age wouldn't typically listen to…. Mmmm Justin Bieber?! Lol!;-)

  38. Hi Barb – I've calmed down now after my win went to my head! (I was a bit giddy there for a minute).
I reckon your Dad has probably got good taste and might like to listen to Bo Diddly.
By the way, did you design your cool yule stamps based on your Mum's jumper?
Looking forward to seeing your new 'smile'.
    Love as always
    Maggie

  39. I'm going to say Rainbow or Deep Purple cos I heard Alexander Armstrong sing a sort of swing version of Since you've been Gone earier this week.

Cant wait to get details of the Groovi Club its sounding great

  40. Hi Barbara, bit late reading this. Hope you are feeling less bruised and battered from the dentist. Arnica tablets help enormously with healing & bruising. I think your dad may have been listening to Happy by Pharrell Williams. Looking forward to watching Paul tomorrow. xx
    Have a great weekend. xx
