Wonderful Geese

Wonderful Geese

Hi there,
Nice of you to drop in!
Thought I’d get my geese out today.
I love them!
Thursday’s Blog is always blue,
so here’s a blue blog, just for you!
Stamp them on Theuva Card –
Black Archival’s best today;
Cutting them out would be too hard!
But Claritymasks have saved the day!
Load your brayer with Juniper ink
Roll it into the sky.
Green at the top ?? I hear you think –
But wait and I’ll tell you why…

The Juniper goes under the blue,
Denim on top is brill.
You end up with a fabulous hue –
a night sky with a cool chill.

Cut a Post-It to fit a word,
and place it at their feet.
Then add more blue from the bottom up;
it’s working out a treat!

Behind the birds we need some shade –
a make-up sponge is best;
Just smear and dab, don’t be afraid!
This is art – it’s not a test!!
Colouring geese is no simple task;
what colour are they? I’ll check.
Well let’s start by using the mask,
and sponge in an inky black neck!
Add some white to the black I think,
otherwise it’s too dark;
pencils work well on top of ink –
the result is a lot less stark.

Friendship is the word I’ll use
to tie this art together.
Geese are fiercely loyal you see –
amazing birds of a feather.

Geese pick friends to fly as a team;
they help each other in the air;
They take it in turns to take the lead
to save on wear and tear.
You see them flying in V-formation,
you hear them honking loudly;
it’s just their form of communication
as they travel south so proudly.

If a goose is sick and has to stop,
two friends will hold back too.
They’ll stay with their weak friend and be his prop,
This is a fact. This is very true.

We people think that 3’s a crowd,
but in Gooseworld this is so wrong!
They work as a group up there in the cloud
That’s what makes them so strong!

So the next time you hear the honking noise
and you look up to the V.
The one at the front is asking his friend
“please can you take over from me?”

We could learn so much from these wonderful creatures.
Love & Hugs,

  1. I really like this a lot, Barbara. I completely understand the excitement and enthusiasm for the new Groovi system, it's such an innovative new product but it's lovely to see a stamping/ink project here. Thank you. I shall be ordering the geese very soon. Meanwhile I'm eagerly awaiting my Gray Day order, absolutely no rush though. I know how frantically busy it's been and I'm delighted that it's been such a runaway success. Can't wait for next year's! Love to you and Dave. Maggie Marsland xxx

  3. Hi Barb,
    I bought these stamps as part of my Gray Day order and I love them! This might be the project to try them out on. I was going to do the canvas that you did before ( or try!) but this might be easier. It would make a lovely birthday card for Dave as he loves geese, he chuckle away whenever we hear them flying over the house . Been Grooving today – made a lovely retirement card with the wallflower plate and a birthday card using the bell plate – I am well chuffed with them! Thanks For everything you do for us, love Alison xxx

  4. Barbara I think you're a poet, but did you know it?…………… Anyway, I love these geese but don't own them yet, will have to add to my new year list. I think the fact geese hold back and stay with a member of the flock when they needs a rest or looking after is so heart warming. I'd like to think I'm a goose, and I think those of us on the blog are too. We are a Clarity flock! Xx

  5. This is lovely. I have had a lovely day off today,starting with going out for coffee with a friend and some Christmas shopping. This afternoon Sandra came down and we looked at our latest Clarity parcels and talked about what we could make. Next we will craft, but today was about catching up.
    It was good to spend time today chatting with good friends. Now I sitting playing with my Groovi, working out what works and what doesn't!

  6. I love today's piece of art Barbara, with some lovely facts about these birds too. I knew swans partnered for life, so I guess geese are friends for life – sweet.
    I can remember my ex-Mother-in-law telling me they had geese on the farm in Ireland as "guard dogs", so I guess they were "guard-birds!"
    Have a lovely evening, Carole xxx

  7. You obviously know the science behind why geese fly in a V, but do you know why one side of the V is always longer than the other?

    It's because there are more geese on that side! (ha ha ha…) 🙂

  8. Hi Barbara
    I love your stamping/brayering art and birds of any kind are at the top of my essentials list. Your story in verse was so beautiful. We can learn a lot from animals and the Clarity Family is like the geese- a team who look out for each other. Maria was brilliant on Hochanda so your products are in safe hands. I am looking forward to Paul on Sunday ( my birthday) but lovely hubby has already treated me to Gold Club membership and some more Groovi goodies. I can't wait for my Art Deco ladies to arrive. I have made cards today with the Christmas plates and I think my Christmas cards are all done now so I can have a play with the new ones without feeling guilty.

    Thank you to you and your team for all the hard work
    Hugs from Chris X

  9. Lovely stamps I meant to use for my Christmas cards but they were too large for my gelli apertures! (Left the stamps behind whilst apertures were 'pulled' in Q8! NB Next time be more organised!
    Atleast next year's cards sorted!

    The goose and the gander
    Their image I squandered
    In overlooking their size.
    But now whilst I ponder
    From a place over yonder
    Next Christmas, they'll be the prize!
    (Christmas card.)

    BTW Maria was ace yesterday. Xx ;~}
    Writing directly onto iPad, no planning!

  10. I love these geese stamps and this wonderful piece of art you have created.I did not know that piece of information about how geese behave. Lovely stick together that is how it should be. I shall watch them more carefully when they fly over our house. xx

  11. I love the geese, got them at Catterick intended trying the groovi card that I think was Maria's sample on the wall on your Open Day. Will try this one first. 14. Not only a fabulous artist but a brilliant poet to boot. Love this project Barbara. I have only used the geese once as yet and that was on a groovi project we did with Maria. However the recipient of the card loved it so that's a bonus eh? Hugs to you and Dave. Xx

  15. Morning – what a lovely tale about the friendship of geese. I must get out my stamps and try this.

    Trying to make a snow picture at this moment – have got out my watercolours to try. The creative juices are flowing – well the ideas are.

    Crafty hugs Pen x

  16. What a beautiful story and artwork Barbara. The geese are now on my wish list too. But I'll wait until after Christmas before ordering. Give you some breathing space!
    I love reading your blog every day, have only just started commenting. Out of all the craft channels now, yours (Clarity) are the only programmes I set the timer for..then keep.

  19. Hi Barbara
    A beautiful card and beautiful written instructions.
    Would love to take this opportunity to say a big thank you as I phoned the office this afternoon and the person was really helpfull and courteous.
    Well done to maria,she was brilliant.
    Will have to put the new groovi club on my wish list and no Barbara it's not too late to put it on my list for this year,it's never too late.

  20. Love this, the peoem is so true. I love the effect of the jumiper under the denim too.it does look very cool.My other half once told me that he'd trust his geese sooner than trust me! LOL He works and sleeps in the forests and has three geese as guards. They are fiercely loyal and very good snake and theif spotters. I did remark that I couldn't imagine a goose holding an ladder at which he puffed'you'd be suprised!'

  21. I love this one – both the beautiful art work and the very thoughtful words! My recently ex husband loved nothing better than to shoot them out of the sky. No wonder I feel better with him out of my world! Thank you for this!

  22. Fantastic rhyming Barbara and the geese look great on that dark blue background and I love the white rectangle you masked for the sentiment. I love the way geese care for one another, really heartwarming! x
