Lest we Forget

Lest we Forget

Hi there,
Day 4 at the NEC,
wearing down,
selling out,
but very grateful to have had such a fantastic NEC this time.
Very grateful full stop.
Remembrance Sunday today.
So lest we forget, let’s always remember.
Here’s a Groovi tribute.

Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning’s hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there; I did not die.
Mary Elizabeth Frye (November 13, 1905 – September 15, 2004)

  1. We will remember.

Another reason for me to remember today because it would have been my Dads birthday. Also this poem was one we choose to read at his funeral. How strange that you used it today. Xx

    1. Thinking of you Donna. Hope you're spending today with your mum, step dad and sisters. What's your funniest memory of your dad? Big bear hugs, love Brenda xx

    2. Hi Brenda, great to talk to you today. A really strong memory is when He was planting rows of little bean plants in the garden and I was outside too. He got all the way along a row and turned round to see me following along behind pulling them all out. He asked "What are you doing!" To which I replied "Helping with the weeding". He always told that story. Xx

    3. Hi Brenda, lovely to know you are ok. Hello Donna, Sheila, Diane and Dot hope you are all enjoying this windy, rainy weather. Nice to hear your banter you all bounce off each other and cheer me up.xx

    4. Donna sending you a big hug today, your gardening memory made me laugh – I used to 'help' my grandad and dad with the gardening too – happy memories. I hope you've had some family time today. Lots of love xxxxx

Brenda lovely to see you pop in too – I've been thinking of you xxxx

Pam hello hope you've had a good day xxxx

Sheila hope you've had a good day too – weather man was wrong – again! Clear but windy! More like damp with drizzle! Xxxxx

  2. Morning Barb. So poignant this morning: for those to whom we owe so much, and who we'll never forget, and on a personal note, for my dad. Its almost a year since we lost him, and he loved poppies; they were his favourite flower. I'll be remembering… x

    1. Sending hugs Barbara – one day I will be where you are, but hope it will not be for a long time. I'm sure you have many, many wonderful memories of great times spent with your dad x

  3. Beautiful card and poignant poem. Pleased that the NEC has been better this time. Now enjoy your break with Dave, the birthday boy…will you be going by bus now he gets it free? (Don't tell him I said that ) love & hugs, Jeanette xxxx

  4. Morning, my thoughts are with those who have fallen and for those who are left behind.

I have had the privilege of being at the Cenotaph many years ago and will never forget the very moving hours I was there.

    Lovely tribute Barbara

  6. That verse always makes me cry, so fitting both the card and the verse. Have a great last day at the NEC and will be looking forward to the show next week. Good luck to Maria.
    love, Sylvia

  7. A beautiful poignant poem and lovely appropriate poppy card for Remembrance day. My Daughter sent me this poem when my sister passed away, I'd not heard it before then. My Dad spent biggest part of the war in India leaving my Mum with my baby sister at that time. She was over 5 years old when he returned, but return he did and he was so grateful that he was spared. We always had the 2 minute silence in our house and were told why. Dad's birthday was on the 10th a constant reminder. Glad your sales have been good at the NEC Barb, you really do deserve it for your total dedication to your customers and bloggers, you give so much of yourself for others. Drive safely home to Dave and enjoy the celebrations for Dave's 60th.xx

    1. Thanks Sheila we all have our own memories, hard for you too Donna at this time. It does get a little easier as time goes on but at the moment it's very raw for you. God bless and outside hugs.xx

  8. We will never forget love what you have done here hope you had better turn out than March sorry could not manage to come this time so wanted to shame xx

  9. Very moving. Glad you're having a good NEC would love to be there but shopping in Wakefield instead getting inspiration for Xmas with my daughter so nice to spend mum and daughter time together. Still love the Groovi and dropping a few hints for my Xmas, would like the poppies and banners in my stocking. Keep giving us Groovi demos Barbara x

  10. Beautiful Groovi'd poppy and some wonderful words to go with it Barbara and perfect for today! Have a good day today and then rest and celebrate with Dave. x

  11. Beautiful card today and so appropriate. I was on parade with my Scouts this morning at church. We then went to the War memorial to lay wreaths along side other community organisations. It was very poignant.

  12. Beautiful poppy card for today and the poem has just reduced me to floods of tears you see my Dad passed away last week just gently but suddenly in his sleep he was 87 years old but I was still his wee girl, a gentle kinder man has never walked this earth…Dot..xx

    1. Oh Dot, I'm so sorry to hear that. My thoughts are with you. At least your dad himself didn't suffer nor know anything about it, maybe a tiny bit of comfort to you. Hope you are spending time with your family and not all alone. Sending big bear hugs across the Forth, love Brenda xx

    2. Dorothy, so sorry to hear your very sad news about your Dad, my thoughts and prayers are with you. He will always be with you in your heart. There's not a day goes by that I don't think about both my Mam and Dad and also my dear Aunt. Take care, love Alison xx

    3. So sorry Dorothy, what an awful time for you. Take comfort from knowing your Dad died in his sleep and didn't suffer, it's so very hard though for the ones left behind. God bless you. Sending you lots of hugs.xx

    4. Dot, I'm so sorry to hear about your dad, sending you a huge hug my lovely lady. He was a good age and I'm sure you have many fond memories of him – so true we are his little girls what ever our age. Sending a hug for your mum too, you are both in my thoughts and prayers xxxxx

  13. A lovely tribute, Barbara. That poem always makes me cry, but, at the same time, I give thanks that we were a very lucky family in both wars, despite the men going abroad to fight. My grandmother had three sons who went, one in each branch of the armed forces, and each one came back unscathed physically. xx Maggie

  14. Hi Barbara, such a sad blog today, sad times for many people, got me really feeling it too. We all have so much to be grateful for too though, and those of us who are extra sad at this time will get there in seeing /feeling that again at some point.

Glad the NEC show has been very successful for you, I did worry a bit for you after the last time you were there. Safe journey home

    love and hugs Brenda xx

I love the tribute and poem. My thoughts are with all who have lost nearest and dearest, Its the memories that they have left with us that make us laugh and cry at the same time virtual hugs to you all xx

  16. Beautiful Barbara. So lovely. I shall attempt to recreate this for my hubby. It will be his mum's funeral on the 11th so whenever we see poppies we will be thinking of her too.
Thanks for the lovely words too.
    Alison xxxx

  17. I watched the remembrance this morning and it always makes me feel emotional. Wonderful words. So glad show has been a success, it seemed busy yesterday. You and your team are fantastic. Always helpful and smiling even when you must all be exhausted. Customer service 5 star. xx

  18. Beautiful tribute Barb, saw you at NEC today, so helpful and was also able to help 3 of my friends who purchased the groovi plates, I know they are not going to be disappointed. Lovely to see Paul Church and Maria Simms, what a team you have, not forgetting all the background people who have done so much to make it a success.

Stay safe, healthy, and happy, hugs, June Smith xxx

  21. A poem I know, read it out at my Nans funeral – a lovely card and very fitting.
Hope you are now going to pack that suitcase and get off for that break!
Great NEC show – boy oh boy it was busy!

    Much Love

  22. Had a brilliant day yesterday at the NEC, was lovely to see Barbara, Paul and Maria all busy demonstrating. Spent far too much but as my mum says there's no pockets in a shroud. There were two ladies there, one was 82 and one was 86 and those two ladies were amazing, if I look like them and have their energy when I get there I'll be doing ok! I bought the calendar and will make all the projects month by month, but of course that means I will have to buy more stash!
