Had a hoot today…

Had a hoot today…

Hi there!
Late again, I know!
Been setting up for the Open Days here in Crowborough
which are tomorrow and Saturday.
The troops start arriving last night,
Hen and Leather,
err I mean Len and Heather,

Paul and Sam,
Jayne’s in charge of catering!
 So whilst the men hauled,

the ladies hauled too!
Here’s Maria getting herself organised,
Sue feeding us strawberries,
and yours faithfully happy to have some
Groovi Plate and Starter Kits! YAY!!
So we had plenty of help.
It came together beautifully.
Only took 10 hours!

And now, while the others are all sitting in our kitchen,
chilling before the onslaught tomorrow,
I have come away to chat to you
and share a step by step project you might enjoy,
using the new owl and some fusible fibre.
I think these stamps which Mel designed are better than superb.
Just a delight to use.
Here are the ingredients:
Here’s where we’re headed!

Attach the stencil to the Gelli Card,
and make a 4 tiny little marks in the corners of the centre square with a pencil.

Stamp the owl into the square with a Black Archival.

Add the Owl Mask now, so that we can sort out the background.

Brush green into the lower area, using a Clarity Stencil brush,

and blue into the sky.

Let’s frame the centre with a Black Micron pen.

Like this:

In fact, let’s outline the whole stencil while it’s still in place.

When you remove the stencil, you will see
the image really stands out if you outline it.
Remove the stencil.

Now let’s give the owl a cloak; a fabulous cloak…
Attach the owl to the new 5″ x 5″ mega mount,
which we are using to replace the riser we used to use when melting fibres on our stamps.
Loosen up some white fibre
(which we finally have back in stock!)
Sandwich the fibre between two piece of baking parchment
or craft mat and iron to preset.

Ink up the stamp with Black Archival ink,
place the white fusible fibre on the inky owl,
Cover with baking parchment or a piece of Craft Mat,
and iron again with a travelling iron set to hot.

You will see how the image shows through the fibre
when it is setting.

How about that for perfect?

Cut out and colour in if you like.
I used Promarkers.

Nice.
He has a real fab shimmer now.

Attach to the stamped image, using tape.

All done.
Hope you like it.
Fusible Fibre is brilliant.
I am going to use it on the Christmas Show on TV next week.
18th June. 10am
I just think it is perfect for Christmas,
especially because you can colour it in if you want to.

Ah well, off to bed.
It will be busy tomorrow!
Much love,

You can start off with the basics so easily and then take it on as far as you want as your skills develop. Definitely good for beginners and experienced alike. xxx Maggie

Good luck with the open days. I am sure everyone will enjoy them, despite the hard work. I am envious of you all. Hopefully next year.

  28. Good morning Barbara and the whole "Crowborough Crew",
the owl with the Fusible Fibre looks fab. I have to try that once too. I`m always afraid destroying the stamp by using an iron so I never did…
Have two great Open Days with less stress (easy to say – I know) and a lot of fun

  29. Great technique, and thanks for the tip about colouring in the fibres. I have a new idea for using my hummingbirds stamp now! Hope everyone enjoys the open days, and wish I was there, Susan x

  30. Hi Barbara. I love the owl, he looks wonderful all colorful and shimmery : ) Have a great weekend, you are all going to be totally knackered come Monday aren't you, but sure you will have had a "hoot" (sorry couldn't resist that one). Take care xx

  31. Hi Barbara what a great idea you come up with so many fabulous ideas. The owl looks wonderful with his glimmery cloak.
Have a fab weekend, wish I was able to join you but I have other commitments
    Jackie x

  32. Hi Barbara, great idea, thanks for sharing. I bought the fibres to try when you were having your clear out but didn't have a lady or corset or anything like stamp so they got put away for later. I must have another look through my stamps now you've helped me think outside the box, I've definitely got your older owl stamp, and a butterfly, that would look good done in fibres for the wings 🙂 Thank you. Hope the two days go really well, and everyone, including staff, has a great time love Brenda xx

Hi Donna, what have you been occupying yourself with the last couple of days? Have you got your trees coloured in? Mine are and I'm ready for the next bit. Mine are peeling rather a lot! I think I forgot to switch on the less is more alarm!!! Ah well, nothing I can do about it now, my dragon breathed too close to them!!!! Take care, love and big bear hugs xx

    1. Went and registered my dads death yesterday 🙁 Sooooooo much paperwork!! Also got the ball rolling on funeral arrangements, more paperwork! Felt very down yesterday and today. Went to work today just for the afternoon, wanted to get it over with otherwise I would have spent all weekend worrying about it.
I have coloured in my trees yay! I think it only leaves the sky. So are we going for a sunny blue sky, a stormy blue grey, sunset pinks and purples? What do you think? Xx

    2. Hi Brenda my colours are a bit flaky to maybe cause its the cheapo ones maybe have to invest in the posh ones will see how the pennies go this month as I really like the Groovi set.
Im baby sitting my wee granddaughter who is into nightshifts the now as my Daughter is shattered so will pop in when I can.

Hi Donna very emotional thing to do but you did the right thing and got on with it
like you say so much paperwork but your Dad will be proud of you he's watching you know take care …Love Dot..xx

  33. I love these owls, great size and they look very 'real'. Great to see the fibres being used again as I got them last time you used them, tried the technique and then put them away! Good to have a gentle nudge towards the drawer again! Hope today went well. Xx
