A Window into the Woods…

A Window into the Woods…

Hello there!
Thanks for stopping by.
We’re soaking in the sun at 7,000 feet here in New Mexico.
The snow is slowly melting, but it was still -9c last night!
Here’s a demo I did on US TV this week. The new Createandcraft Television channel can be found on DISH221 , DirectTV85/222. And ROKU.
Or you can go to their US website, createandcraft.com and they will tell you times and options.
Let’s use one of our landscape stencils and attach it to a piece of the 7×7 Gelli card.
Now we need a set of the Landscape Masks. I have to say, this set really is a must have.
Add a moon and some mountains, and dust in a few clouds, using a Clarity Stencil brush and Stonewashed Adirondack.
Build up the depth of colour slowly,
Adding Eggplant clouds, a little Denim, and some Espresso hills,
Denim, Eggplant and Espresso – great combination!
Time to add a few little critters….I think a Coffee Archival Ink Pad would be best here.
Just remove the stencil and stamp in your favourite animals from the Woodland Animals Collection.
So here’s the stencil. It comes with both parts. In fact, all three woodland scene stencils do.
Here they are:
And here are the unmounted animals. Check out our new packaging for 2015! The stamps now come on a really sturdy acetate, and are covered by a thinner film, which is a light inhibitor, so your stamps won’t yellow under it. We do try, we really do!
Anyway, back to the card. A little matting and layering,
And we have a lovely, atmospheric scene. I love these stencils; I love how they create a window into a scene.
If you want to make the animal images opaque, then go over the shapes with a colouring pencil.
I like them translucent.
The sun is pouring in the window. i think it’s time to go for a walk.
See you tomorrow, for another New Mexico chat!
Much love,
Barb

  1. Hello Barb, love this image, I have the stencil and love using it, but mine are not quite as good as yours. Mmmm, quite chilly where you are, mind you it is quite chilly here and has just started snowing in MK. Enjoy your break with Dave. Bx

  2. What a stunning scene, I do love this window effect. Wrap up well on your walk, just getting suited up in Scarborough to take Trevor and Jason (whippets) for walkies xx

  3. Yes, I love those stencils too. All of them. They always make such a beautiful card, in very little time really. As for the scenic photographs – it looks like you have found a corner of Paradise there. Enjoy every minute! xx

  4. Hi Barb,
Love these stencils, actually have all three but have never used them yet. This superb artwork might just be the inspiration I need to get started! I bet these demos went down a storm on US tv. Weather here has really turned cold and supposed to get worse by Sunday, apparently down to -10 C here in the NE. Enjoy your walk but wrap up nice and warm. Thanks Barb, love Alison xxx

  5. This is quite beautiful and so suitable for so many occasions.
I loved the short time I spent in NM, it has to be in my top five places ever and am in memory heaven right now, of the bright sun on the sparkling snow in the biting cold {that froze a bottle of water left in the car} Wrap up warm and have a wonder~full time outdoors and big mugs of steaming hot chocolate when you come indoors!

  6. Hi Barbara. I have also woken up to a snow scene this morning, not as pretty an outlook as yours but lovely none the less. Great artwork with the stencils they are so versatile. Anne x

  7. Hi Barbara,
a beautiful atmospheric and easy to make card…
I don´t like -9c to be honest. I think it´s because I stayed one night in an igloo two years ago…
Have a great weekend in New Mexico
    Rolf

  8. Lovely Barbara, this is one of my favourite stencils. Good tip about making the animals translucent, have to try that. Looks fantastic where you are, hope you enjoyed your walk. xx

  9. Hallo liebe Barbara,

wow, was für ein wunderschönes Winterbild und deine Gestaltung einfach wieder so genial. Ich bin von den Schablonen total begeistert. Ich wünsche dir ein wunderschönes Wochenende. Ganz liebe Grüße Silvi

  10. Hi Barbara oh that does look beautiful scenery, even if it is cold! Love the scenery masks too, they give such a wonderful look and real depth. Thank you for sharing this with us. Enjoy your day. Love Diane xxx

  11. I love these scenic stencils Barbara and the clouds, hills and assorted wildlife are the perfect accompaniments. It looks so lovely where you are and the blue sky is stunning in the clear air at that height, and continue to enjoy your break. x

  12. Hi Barb,
I have, and love, these stencils but need these particular critters as I usually use the rise and shine set! The scenery looks fantastic on your photo and I now understand why you've gone back for so many years. Enjoy the peace xx

  13. Your home in the clouds is stunning. The blue of the skies is so deep and pure. Love this scene with the great use of the inks to make a background. My inking skills are slowly improving thanks to watching your DVDs and demos. Xx

  14. Oh my word this is just stunning Barbara. Glad you are enjoying the break. I must say the scenery is stunning. Hope you enjoyed your walk. Xxx

  15. Lovely scene, these stamps do go well with the stencils. On my wish list but lots of others higher up. LOL The first thing I noticed about this piece was that I have been using my cloud mask the wrong way round! I much prefer the effect your way, where you can see the clouds just sitting behind the landscape. I suppose it can be used both ways. Reminder to self – get to more workshops!

I spent some time in South America a long time ago and your photos really remind me of that time. I loved the dry, crisp, very thin air and stunning sunny days. I was amazed at the temperature drop each time i moved into the shade. I was in budget accomodation and had to dress up to go to bed, bloody freezing. Your place is absolutely stunning.

  16. I love this stencil and mask set, but mine don't come out as clear as yours. The branches always move and blur a bit! I keep persevering though. Have fun. Thank you, Jan

  17. Well the snowy scene outside my window today wasn't as beautiful as yours, and definitely didn't tempt me outdoors for a walk! Love the ink colours you have used in your little animal scene too – Thanks, Susan x

  18. Stunning Barbara I love these stencils and masks used them many times yes they are a must have another set of stamps for my wish list ️enjoy the snow xxx

  19. Hi Barbara. What a beautiful scene, both on the card and in New Mexico. You always make your scenic cards look stunning with very little needed to make them, so clever.
TI hope that the fresh, clean mountain air and beautiful scenery is working it's magic and giving you both a good rest. Take care.

  20. Just catching up on what missed over weekend love those stencils have them all but need to use them so that will be my task for this week such beauty in the scene lot love Joy xxx
