GREASE!

GREASE!

Hello there!
Friday’s blog a private peek…
Just got in from a fab night out with the Pink Ladies!

I got lucky at the NEC!
Carly from Creata was opposite us,
and she lent me her wonderful skirt and petticoats.
Elastic waistband too…

Been singing and bopping along at the Assembly Halls in Tunbridge Wells.
It was hilarious! And so good, just to switch off and have a crack.
I had forgotten how kookie Grease was!
There was something really wholesome about being in a hall almost entirely filled with women, of all ages, all singing, dancing and doing the hand jive!
I couldn’t keep up! But boy did we laugh! Can you imagine your partner walking like John Travolta did in that film?? You’d never leave the house with him!!
But it was good, harmless fun.
Reminded me a little of a panto or a modern day music hall.
It was good to get those pink winkle-pickers off when I got home, too! What a crippling fashion statement they were, too!
Jan found the pink specs on Ebay…
We were saying over dinner before the show, that 30 years ago, Jan and I would NEVER have had the nerve to walk into a restaurant dressed up like that. At least not sober!
All good.
Now I want to go the the Sound of Music Sing-along!
Just fancy myself as a Maria….
Do ray me
Do ray me
much love,

  1. That looks like a lot of fun! You could change the lyrics a little – "Look at me, I'm the stamp lady", "Hopelessly devoted to Glue", "Born to Hand Stamp" and "Greased Brayering" for example!

  2. I absolutely love it. What a difference pink glasses make. You could use those songs with the altered lyrics as background music for your YouTube tutorials. Glad you had such a good time. It is so good to really let your hair down for once. xxx Maggie

  3. If I could spell I would be dangerous – let's try again !
I love the sing along …… Events .
I went to sing along the sound of music a few years ago and it was a blast but then went to sing along rocky horror and that was a night to remember and then some . Not seen any running locally for a while but your blog has compelled me to go look as it is a very good friends big birthday this year and she would love it (she has her own nuns outfit from a very dodgy cheese and wine fund raiser she did a few years ago ).
It was great to see the photos of your girls night out having fun – thanks for sharing as so not thought about this for a while and now gonna get photos out from the rocky horror night – a proper trip down memory lane x

  4. How fantastic is this, I love the concept and of course your outfits. Way to go, I am just smiling enjoying this on the blog and thinking, Beauty School Dropout. Thanks what a blast!

  5. Hello Barb and the pink ladies, how awesome, looks like you had an absolute blast. I was chuckling all the way through reading this blog post. I know the feeling walking into a restaurant dressed up. Try McD's at 1am, having just come from the Rocky Horror :-). Have a great day Bx

  6. Oh Barbara….looks and sounds like you had a great time!!! My summer version of me would have been very at home with you all!! So glad you enjoyed it and it does you all good to have a laugh…here's to the next time! xxxx

  7. I read this last night before going to sleep and it made me laugh. I am still smiling re-reading it this morning. Looks like you had a really fun night out and you all look great. I watched Grease on TV not so long ago. It is a great film. I have the soundtrack on vinyl somewhere too. I remember seeing Grease at the cinema when it first came out, for my birthday treat. I love The Sound of Music as well. Have watched the DVD a couple of times recently, with my three year old son. He likes trying to sing do-re-mi. The other one I love singing along too (badly I must add) is Mary Poppins. x

  8. You all look fabulous Barbara, great evening had by all. You look so good in those specs, Grease is a great film and definitely one to sing along to lol!

I know when Mama Mia came out everyone was dancing and singing along with it at the pictures, nobody needed any words lol!

  9. Good morning Barbara, you look and sound like you had great fun. Everyone needs a night like this now and again. Sing along a fetid any I think now today. Xx

  10. Looks like a fab time and you all look great. Love the glasses and satin jackets. One of the benefits of getting older is that you no longer care what others think…freedom to let your hair down and have a good time. I've got the sing-a-long dvd of the sound of music. Maybe see if there's a whimple on ebay! I'm on the hunt for a toga as I have to teach dressed as a Roman next Friday. LOL Xx

  11. I love nothing better than singing along to a musical be that in a cinema, theatre or on DVD! It feels good for the soul to let it all out. I always craft better when I'm singing. xx

  12. That looks like fun to me. You seem to have enjoyed yourself a lot, and you all look stunning in your black and pink clothes. My word, you are so slim in your "leather" legging!!!! Thanks for sharing.

  13. A few years ago I went to the Joseph and his amazing technicolor dreamboat singalong with my daughter. I didn't know what to expect quite honestly but boy, did we have a ball. Don't you think when you get a bit older you don't really care what other people think? I think when you are younger you care too much what you look like. Enjoy Maria when it comes! Love Lynne.x

  14. Hi Barb,
Well you certainly look as though you were all having a great time. Loving the specs! Glad you took time out to really enjoy yourself . I like the idea of the altered song titles and lyrics too. How about " how do you solve a problem like brayering" love Alison xx

  15. So glad you had a good night and you pink ladies all looked terrific. Would love to see that musical if ever it came up this way.

  16. Great photo, never been to one of the sing-a-longs but looks a blast. I went to a 21st Grease themed party all dressed up, that was fun. My sister-in-laws hen do was an Abba tribute band evening and we all met up in costume in one of the big pubs in town, what a scream! x

  17. Thanks for sharing the photos – you all look fab and mighty happy! I love sing-a-long films. We went to the Sound of Music many years ago with a group from work. Someone had a job lot of nun's outfits, so our social worker (male) came as mother superior!! I was secretly jealous of the two mountains though – so inventive!!! Have a lovely weekend, and thanks for cheering me up. Susan x

  18. Glad you all had such fun. Pics with specs look great. So nice to see everyone smiling. These kind of nights are such fun…last one I was at was rocky horror, that was in the days when I looked good in a basque and stockings…don't bother trying to count that one out lol. xxx

  19. Hi Barbara. I love the pics! So glad that you all had a great time. I agree that as we get older we don't worry about what others think of how we look. We know that having fun is much more important : ) I hate fancy dress parties usually but would love to do the whole Rocky Horror or Grease Sing a long. Have a good weekend. Take care.

  20. You all look really great in your outfits Barbara, and I love the pink specs. It looks as though it was a lot of fun. I think Grease must be a good one to sing along to as the music is so well known. I did take part in an amateur production of The Sound of Music in Croydon in my younger days, but have never done Grease, but perhaps if one of these sing-a- long things comes around I might give it a go. It's good to relax and let your hair down sometimes. x

  21. Ha ha looks like you had a wonderful time, always makes you feel so much better. Must admit that I have never been much of a one for dressing up, but have helped to produce many costumes for my kids often at a moments notice. The lads being the worst always coming up with some crazy outfit they need. I have just had some colourful streaks put in my hair , my grandchildren were surprised but declared them ' Cool '. Glad you had chance for some fun time. Look forward to seeing you dressed as a nun. Lynne xx

  22. Hi Barbara,
So glad to you all had so much fun being pink ladies. I read this first thing this morning but didn't have time to respond. Having re-read this now I can actually see which one is you. We did the sound of music a few years ago, what a blast. We all got changed at work and were made to walk through the hospital foyer to our cars. It was the beginning of visiting hours and the shocked look on the faces of the visitors was a hoot. Imagine 5 large nuns and a goat hearder packed tightly into a small car going down the A14 to Cambridge in broad day light (the clocks had changed the week before) such memories!! We also saw Joseph and the dreamboat but that wasn't as good. Laughter is medicine for the soul, enjoy it.

  24. You all look fabulous what a great night out it must have been. I'm going to a
James Bond themed party tonight but I'm too old to be one of his sexy ladies
So I'm going to be a female Bond! X
