Why We Created Our Daily Affirmation Cards — And Why They Matter More Than Ever

Why We Created Our Daily Affirmation Cards — And Why They Matter More Than Ever

There’s something rather lovely about a few simple words landing at exactly the right moment.

That’s really where the idea for our new Affirmation Cards began.

Not because life is always easy. Quite the opposite, in fact. Most of us are juggling far too much far too often — work, family, worries, responsibilities, deadlines, laundry baskets, ageing parents, aching backs, forgotten passwords… the list goes on! And somewhere in the middle of all that noise, it’s very easy to lose sight of ourselves. I usually begin a statement like like with “I can only speak for myself, but…”. Here I am pretty sure I speak for most of us. And another thing: I think many of us speak to ourselves far more harshly than we would ever speak to a friend.

We tell ourselves we’re behind.
Not good enough.
Too old.
Too tired.
Too late.
Too much.
Not enough.

And after a while, those thoughts become part of the background hum of daily life.

That’s why words matter.

Over the years, through SHAC, workshops, TV shows and simply talking to so many of you, I’ve come to realise that creativity is rarely just about making a card or colouring a picture. It’s often about finding a moment of peace. A little breathing space. A reminder that we are still here, underneath all the busyness.

That is exactly what these cards are intended to be.

Tiny prompts.
Little anchors.
A moment of clarity.

Not grand declarations shouted from a mountain top. Just daily truths that help steady the ship a little.

The lovely thing is that this project became a real family and team effort too. It actually began with Grace, over in New York. She has a pretty healthy, balanced approach when it comes to handling drama, stress and sadness. Life, I think it’s called. I would like to think I taught her everything she knows – hahahaha – but that just isn’t so. She does yoga daily for starters. The only time I went to a yoga class, they woke me at the end of the session, fast asleep on the mat and dribbling! She journals. I have about a dozen journals on the go, which I have started at different points in my chaotic life – and can’t find one of them. She is the quintessential optimist – sometimes irritatingly so – but always infectiously positive. I love my daughter’s energy! If we could bottle it and sell it, we would fly!

Grace was the one who first got the ball rolling on this project. She started gathering together the affirmations and ideas that eventually became this little deck of encouragement. From there, the whole thing slowly evolved here at Clarity — words, floral designs on the backs, artwork, packaging, printing, the little oak stands Dave made… everybody added a little piece to the puzzle.

And somehow, those are always the projects that seem to carry the most heart.

We decided to include 31 affirmations in the first deck — one for every day of the month. A simple daily ritual. One card each morning. One quiet thought to carry with you through the day. Take a card from the top of the pile, or shuffle them, and let the universe guide you…I do.

Then, completely by accident, we discovered something rather wonderful. The thought popped into my head: I wonder what the number 31 symbolises.

Ready for this? Apparently, the number 31 symbolises creativity, joy, communication and new beginnings. It acts as a prompt to use artistic talents and practical planning to manifest goals and progress. Yep. Honestly. Look it up. We had no idea when we started! But once we found out, it felt so perfectly aligned with the spirit of the project that we simply looked at each other and laughed. Some things are just meant to be.

Angel Number 31:
It is seen as a sign from the universe to maintain optimism, trust your path,
and persist in your goals through dedicated action.

You can find the Daily Affirmation Cards here.

The funny thing is, the more we repeat certain thoughts, the more deeply they settle. We know this works negatively — goodness knows most of us have replayed worries often enough! I think we need another deck of cards with SHACisms! WORRY DOESN’T WORK would certainly be included! Anyway, I digress.

If we can shape our mindset downhill, it makes perfect sense that positive thoughts can also begin to reshape the atmosphere inside our heads.

Not overnight, but gradually, with little daily nudges.

I think that’s why so many people are drawn to affirmations. Not because they believe life will suddenly become perfect, but because hopeful words can help us approach life differently. More kindly. More calmly.

Jazz and I launched the cards on Friday, on Clarity Social TV, and the response has been — as you would anticipate — very positive! Which tells me there clearly is a need for them — and it makes me happy to think they might become a useful tool in your life.

Each card is a little pocket of encouragement. Something to keep by your bedside, on your desk, beside your crafting space or tucked into a handbag for difficult days. Gift the whole box to a friend who might benefit from a daily dose of positivity — or give a single card to a friend who maybe needs that particular message of love from you.

The backs of the cards are varied, beautiful original floral art too. Perfect for colouring in if you want to spend a quiet 10 minutes meditating and colouring.

I rather like the idea of beginning the morning by pulling out a card before even reaching for the phone. So that is what I am weaving into my daily rhythm. Before the emails. Before the news. Before the world starts shouting at us.

Just one quiet moment, with a cuppa, to check in with ourselves first.

Because perhaps that’s what we all need a little more of:
less pressure,
less comparison,
less doom-scrolling…

…and more reminders that we are human beings, not human doings, not machines.

As it happens, creativity and affirmations sit beautifully together. Both ask us to slow down. To pay attention. To notice. To make space for possibility instead of panic.

And if a few thoughtful words can help someone feel steadier, stronger or simply less alone for a moment, then I think that’s a very worthwhile thing indeed.

Here are a few of my own favourites at the moment:

“I trust the journey I am on”

“I am stronger than my worries”

“I give myself permission to pause”

“Calm grows when I slow down”

And perhaps the most important one of all:

“I am enough.”

Love always,
Barb x

  1. thank you for your thoughts today. I received a gift from a friend in USA with a thought for everyday. uplifting and sometimes thought provoking.
it’s amazing how they meet my daily need
    s
Have a creative, blessed and fruitful Sunday.

  2. A brilliant idea from a brilliant Team! I am looking forward to putting a set into the process of detangling the washing machine of a head that sits on my shoulders, and seems to be in constant spin cycle these days. You are so right, Barb, we need to be kinder to ourselves, and hopefully these words will help. See you in the SHAC for some Clarity calmness.

  3. Oh Barb, I love this idea and I certainly need them. Outwardly capable, confident and trusted confidant to many. Inwardly a turmoil of worry and uncertainty which seems to increase with age, whilst trying to carry the burden of others. I will also make myself a pretty card to pin over my desk with the words you suggested in the May club newsletter “living in the solution” to try to turn negative thoughts into positive actions. Bless you for your support when you have worries of your own. xx

  4. Good morning Barbara
You certainly speak for the vast majority of us, it’s very much how I am feeling at the moment. I will treat myself to a set.
My Dad took pleasure in the small things, his favourite thing to do was to make a brew with Yorkshire tea always! sit outside and just be still and listen to the birds. So when the weather allows I am giving myself that precious thirty minutes a day to do that, It helps calm the mind. Enjoy your Sunday XOXO

  5. After having a really tough year last year, my daughter gifted me some affirmation cards. I can’t tell you how much they helped and still do. I gentle prod that things will get better, eventually, and that you are doing the best you can. a perfect present in this day of unease. Thank you Clarity I will be buying them for gifts for dear friends and family. xx

  6. These are not only beautiful but so very important for so many of us. We all need to remind ourselves to be as kind to ourselves as we are to others. Just one kind word/thought/affirmation can change your whole outlook and make a down day into one where you can have a little smile on your face and a little clear space in our overcrowded minds. Take care dear Barbara and all you lovely peeps. Much love xXx 🦋💕

  7. These are lovely Barbara, such a great idea!
I love the wooden candle holder too – a beautiful Dave creation, I think!

I mostly use my card stash to let friends know that I am thinking of them.

    Take care xxx

  8. A beautiful set of cards. How does Dave do all he does and then a wooden stand to boot! He’s amazing. Love how everyone has contributed to this. Already have them in mind for someone I know ! Have a good Sunday. I had my first floating gong bath yesterday – how relaxing was that ! Also I dreamt of my Mum for the first time last night since she’s been gone and she was there, not in the background without me seeing her, don’t know if that’s a result of the gong bath but it seems rather odd. Have a peaceful Sunday xx

  9. Dear Barb, this is such an amazing idea, it really speaks on so many levels, to so many people. I am definitely going to get a set, it is a must have. Love the fact they have the stand too, well done Dave and well done to Grace for collecting the statements. Have a lovely Sunday everyone, and for those celebrating around the world. Happy Mother’s Day, may your day be filled with love and laughter. Bx

  10. Good morning Barbara, the affirmation cards are new to me, yes I know about the sayings but the cards are new. Not sure where I have been hiding !!
As a family we have several sayings that pop up regularly
”Live for Today, Sort Tomorrow out when it comes ” is the main one & we use a few of the SHAC ones to – One Day at a Time & This Too shall Pass.
You just don’t know what is going to change your life in a heart beat – but better to face it positively than pretend it hasn’t happened or worse still think negatively & get depressed .
I think these cards will be a great comfort to a lot of people.
I also think perhaps Dave needs to get an apprentice to pass on all his skills to. He can still come up with the ideas/solutions but have an elf or two to lend him an extra pair of hands as I don’t think people realise just how much Dave does in the background. For this the Clarity family are very grateful xx
See you in the SHAC tomorrow at 10 xx

  11. You know, when I am struggling with anything, I say to myself; “if anyone can do it, I can”. Another one that has been creeping in a lot lately is; “Why does nothing work but me?” I rest my case, have a good day.
    Love
    Maggie (York UK)

  12. These will be going into my next order! I bought some angel cards for a friend recently, and I know she finds them helpful.

Last year I started journalling and found it really helpful to sort my head out as I recovered from breast cancer. I’m still writing, but doing more arty journalling too. My 2 biggest lessons from last year were that to be a kind person, I had to be kind to myself too, otherwise I was just a people pleaser, and that resting was doing something. They have been life changing lessons for me x

  13. Oh Barbara these are the most beautiful thought inducing cards, thank you. They will allow me time to spend time with myself which is a very rare thing. I am always at my happiest when those I care about around me are happy. These little cards will give me permission to check in with myself at the beginning of each day and for that I thank each and everyone of you at Clarity that played their part in bringing these to fruition. I’ve said it before and I’ll keep saying it. You are all very special, caring people xXx
