9 Days to Christmas. Name that Game!

9 Days to Christmas. Name that Game!

Hi there

That little trip down Memory Lane yesterday really took me on the Nostalgia Bus, and judging by all your comments, you were right there with me! Nice xxx Makes you feel like you were there when it was special, doesn’t it?

So how did you get on with the Word Search the other day? The 12 Days of CHristmas? Did you find all twelve? There was a little curve ball, a little cheeky diversion with the Pipers…. errr. no pipers actually!

Here are my answers, just in case you think I don’t join in!! I found it quite tricky, didn’t you? But I love a challenge!

Today, let’s get back on that Nostalgia bus, and enjoy a Board Walk

Which Board games did you play as a kid, as a family. Or which games do you still like playing? When we were kids, this was the board that always came out if Mum, Dad, Steve and I were up for a game. I know, right?? A German board!

Ready for another lesson in German pronunciation?

Say this out loud: MENCH AIR Ga (as in Gun but without the N. Spoken like a Londoner though 😂) DICK NICKED. hahahahaha

Mench Air Ga Dick Nickt.

Brilliant!!! Which, loosely translated means, Don’t get your knickers in a twist!! Any ideas what the British equivalent was? Yep!

I’m really enjoying writing these From the Heart Blogs. How about another Word Search? But this time let’s do a Games from the Good Old Daysand NOW!

How many of these board game classics can you find?
Some go right back to childhood tea-time tables, others are more modern favourites – but they all have one thing in common: bringing people together.
Let us know which one you spotted first… and which one took you the longest!

Here are all the board and table games hidden in the grid:

  • Ludo
  • Monopoly
  • Scrabble
  • Kerplunk
  • Draughts
  • Dominoes
  • Chess
  • Checkers
  • Cluedo
  • Backgammon
  • Snakes and Ladders
  • Risk
  • Connect Four
  • Operation
  • Twister
  • Battleship
  • Jenga
  • Pictionary
  • Trivial Pursuit

HAPPY SEARCHING!

Now I am off to pick the kids up at the airport! So excited. I’ll make a little picnic for the drive home though; they always love a sandwich, a packet of crisps and a drink when they get off those long plane flights!!

Love and Clarity,

Barb x x x

  1. Love a word search. Just spotted connect four will carry on later. It was usually Ludo or snakes and ladders in our house. Hope Grace and Mark had good journeys and enjoy their picnic what a lovely thought but a mother always wants to feed her children.❤

  2. Hi Barbara,
I’m soooo loving this trip down memory lane. It’s as if you’ve been reading my mind. I’m feeling so nostalgic and missing some very special people this year more than ever it seems.
Favourite board games….Mouse trap, and playing Droughts with my Dad…haaaaaaaa, even though he insisted on not letting me win. Can’t believe I spent hours looking for those peskyPipers 🤣. Enjoy every minute with your lovely family. Love and hugs to you all xXx

  3. …….and there was me thinking I’d lost the plot as I couldn’t find the pipers 😂. Love a word search so off to do this one. We always played monopoly and card games as kids. Have a safe journey to the airport and home.

  4. Loving the nostalgia. We still play board games and is a boxing day tradition.Wouldn’t be the same without it
Happy Christmas to you and all the family xx

  5. We also played Booby Trap, Avalance, Downfall, What……

    Spotted Twister and Kerplunk first……

I hope you are feeling better today – have a lovely time with Grace & Mark!

  6. As soon as a I saw your board I thought of Ludo, that along with snakes & ladders were favourites of ours. In fact mom still plays those games with a few others in the complex where she lives. No doubt I will get roped in when we eventually move in there as well.
I seem to remember having a box of games or rather a Compendium of Games which had all sorts of games in it. Snap, Happy Families were card games but draughts was another board game. Never did get the hang of chess though.
We have bought a new game for Christmas that all 4 generations can play without to many rules to remember – They call it a magnetic chess game but it is more like stones that are divided up amongst the players & you take in turns to place a stone inside the rope circle
. If your stone attracts those near to it you must pick up all the joined stones – first one to get rid of all their stones wins. Should be fun & not cause too many arguments/discussions 😂.
I printed off the last wordsearch for us to play over Christmas so will do the same with todays.
Now to go back to yesterdays blog & presents from our childhood !!
Loving this trip down memory lane.
Hope your journey’s to & from the airport are uneventful with no hold ups. I can imagine the trip home being either full of laughter & chatter or silence because Grace & Mark have fallen asleep after their long flights xx

  7. Have a safe trip. We had what I think was effectively Ludo but with the little dome in the centre to spin the dice, Frustration . And of course Monopoly but dad made up his own rules limiting the purchase of houses and hotels which cut the game time to a reasonable length and stopped a lot of arguments too.

  8. I’m loving these nostalgic blogs! We have a lot of games that we’ve collected over the years and I still have all my childhood ones like Kerplunk, Frustration and Haunted House which my nephews loved to play when they were little. Another generation is here to enjoy them now – we got out Flounders when my great-niece visited in the summer. Dad and I have been converted to Rummikub in recent years and take it on holiday with us but the family favourite is Sorry using the trusty old set dating from the 1930s, like my dad ❤️

  9. And I’m loving the German pronunciation lessons 😆 I only studied it for a year as my brain couldn’t process it but I still remember “fushballshpeel”!

  10. Used to love a game of ludo. As for a game of Monopoly we’d keep one going for days in our house ! I’ll have to look later. Enjoy the day with the kids ! X
