34 Days To Christmas – Barb’s Big Blooms Stamps & Friends…

Hi folks!

Thanks for popping in! As promised this morning, a blog centred around those lovely new stamps Eileen and I came up with together. We had fun designing them! It’s all about the layering…

Here they are, in all their glory: A4 Square stamp sets, plus their masks too. For your orientation, the longest blooms plus stems measure nearly 6 inches on this BIG BLOOMS SET.

Also in A5 Square + Masks. FYI, the longest blooms plus stems measure about 4 inches on these BLOOMS SETS.

We have designed a trio of matching stencils, to use in backgrounds too.

Eileen’s artwork is really excellent. Take a close look at the cards below, and see how she layers up the stamps from both sets – little and large.

Thanks Eileen! I prepped a card for today’s TV show, based on the blue card just above, but knew that I wouldn’t have the time to complete it during the hour.

So here is a photo step-by-step for you, so you can see the process:

Ready? Here goes. Just out of interest, without looking up the answer below, what do YOU think will be the first thing I do?

Let’s start with a piece of 7”x7” Stencil Card.

Trim your stencil card to 4.5” x 7”
Run a length of low-tack masking tape along the base of the larger piece of card.
Mount the largest bunch of blooms
Ink up with Black Archival, then plant in the centre, so that a good portion of the stem is on the masking tape.
Pick a stripey bloom. Mask off most of the stem, them ink up with Watering Can Grey Archival
Remove masking tape from stamp,
then plant bloom in the background.
Work your way down the picture, adding more blooms and stripey leaves. 1-2-3
Mask off all the blooms and leaves using tweezers.
Run low-tack masking tape around all 4 sides, as in the photo.
Deposit some light pink ink on your blending mat, then roll out on you brayer.
Starting at the base, roll the brayer from side to side,
advancing up the picture.
Add a darker pink or purple to the blending mat, and repeat the brayering process,but only stay in the lower half of the picture with the darker colour.
Flick water at the picture, then blot with a paper towel.
Remove the masking tape, then remove the masks,
replacing them on their carrier sheet.
When the black ink is dry, add white accents with a white Posca pen, and add a sentiment using Black Archival.
Run a black 01 Micron pen around the outisde of the pink, then go round again, quarter of an inch out. Add a flash of colour to the stripey blooms, with Polychromos or Perga Liners.
Add a drop shadow around the outer box, using a grey pencil. Layer up on matching Companion paper. Attach to a card blank to complete.
